Zarkava is the obvious choice for this but there seem to be some very good EW bets in this race that I’m tempted to take on.
Both Dar Re Mi and Folk Opera have decent enough form for me to back them here.
Dar Re Mi is my prefered option having recently won a Grp3 at Deauville only to come out less tha a week later to register a decent 2nd to Lush Lashes on soft ground. Similar ground to that expected in France this weekend.
Folk Opera, who finished 2nd to Dar Re Mi in a hot Newmarket contest two months ago, is showing all the signs of improvement recently including jumping from a Grp3 2nd at Glorious Goodwood to a good Grp2 win at Deauville on bank holiday weekend.
For me, at 8/1 and 16/1 respectively both of these offer great value and if(and thats a big if) Zarkava needs the run and turns in a bit off colour then these two are your best chance of showing a ‘form book run’ and being up there when it matters.
September 12, 2008 at 00:43 #180530For the sake of those who have already taken an ante-post wager at the 7/2 for the Arc or similar, and even those who are keen on something on the second, third, fourth or fifth line of betting for the Arc – I hope Zarkava tidies them up untouched by 3-4.
September 12, 2008 at 23:43 #180723Zarkava should mangle this lot and have stop time too call Dalakani and tell him she loved his new online video inside the finil furlong.
September 14, 2008 at 03:23 #180840Reading through the lines the trainer thinks she badly needs this saying she will run no matter what the ground. I wouldn’t be having fortunes on after such a long lay off.
She certainly has enough class to win this if not 100% but obviously getting her straight for the Arc is number 1 on the agenda.
September 14, 2008 at 06:45 #180845Ilike Baila Me at 66-1 for a little e/w and Honoria e/w at 100-1.
September 14, 2008 at 10:17 #180857Everyone seems to be calling this a trial, well, the truth is: Group1 with €300k up for grabs!!
The all important going is reported at 3.2 (Good) so i assume Paris as missed all the recent rain!!
My Guide + my idea of correct price in brackets:
FOLK OPERA (12-1) Credit to connections, should be able to sit handy and take it up when the pacemakers call it a day, would be dangerous to underestimate as she stays all day and could take some pegging back once they are jostling for position.
TURFROSE 40-1) 2nd to AVANTI POALINI wouldn`t fit into this catagory
TREAT GENTLY (20-1) Merits respect as she`s improving, all the same a 2nd to LADY MARION leaves her short at this level
ZARKAVA (8-11) I guess we can crown her the Queen of French racing, toprated by a good margin (124 UK equivelent), style of racing makes this the perfect race (plenty of pace) and she certainly looked like she would stay 12 furlongs when bolting up in Chantilly, however, this track is a fair bit stiffer than Longchamp and the rumours doing the rounds are that she`s not fully wound up for this and she will need to be, i for one find her underpriced and the word “Lay“ comes into my thinking this morning!
BAILA ME (40-1) Decent in her own right but was 2nd string in German oaks and she was put in her place by a horse that had to do a lot of racing to win that event, opposeable!
DAR RE MI (6-1) Great credit to connections, keeps improving, will be suited by the way this race will be run, solid local matador taking the ride, excellent 2nd to LUSH LASHES when she was probably racing up the wrong part of the track, the only thing i would wish for her is slightly softer going, maybe its softer than reported, she will certainly test the metal of the jolly.
10 points to play with:-
2.5 each way DAR RE MI on the pmu
2.5 Each way GAGNOA with UK Bookies at a general 9-1
ICE QUEEN (12-1) holds GAGNOA on recent form but i can`t imagine that being the case today, decent ground will suit so i would expect a top half finish!
HONORIA 100-1) Cant see it!
ADORED (50-1) Coming up short at this level
TANGASPEED (100-1) If going turned up soft she would be worth a small interest at a very big price, out and out stayer will have to wait for another day!
MICHITA (20-1) Not really lived upto expectations, plenty to find
GAGNOA (6-1) No mug so whilst she has 3l to make up on the jolly with doubts over that one she should get a fair bit closer, trip and going should suit so i would expect her to finish top 3!!
September 14, 2008 at 11:39 #180871Zarkava to win handily and hitherto cement her position as a worthy favourite for the Arc.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
September 14, 2008 at 11:41 #180873I’ve taken Zarkava but am slightly worried at how Segal has tipped Treat Gently this morning in the RP. He’s tips have not lost on a French race thus far
September 14, 2008 at 14:34 #180892Ladies and gents, you have just seen your Arc winner
September 14, 2008 at 14:36 #180893Havent seen race yet, as in work today, was it a decent performance? How much did she win by?
September 14, 2008 at 14:36 #180894Expanding on what I’ve just said, for the filly to come from that far back having been left in the stalls thats is absolutely remarkable.
Get on quick as she’ll be 5/2 or even shorter for the Arc later on!
September 14, 2008 at 14:57 #180895What was the winning margin? Sportinglife says she won easily after being slowly away and settled in last I would have expected her to have been settled at the back anyway, it reads like a logical win against that opposition on paper. Any expansions on that?
September 14, 2008 at 15:14 #180900It’s about 1 1/2 lengths winning margin in my opinion.
Zarkava left the stalls at least 2 seconds after everyone else and settled at the back until around 500m. You couldnt even see Zarkava in the picture for most of the last 1000m!
Came sprinting through and probably caught Dar Re Mi with a furlong to go.
Impressive win
September 14, 2008 at 15:26 #180902Impressive, you would have to say she is the one to beat in the Arc, however she still has to take on battle hardened colts such as New Approach, The Duke etc etc
September 14, 2008 at 15:27 #180903Very impressive i thought.
A very cool ride from Soumillon too.
Great turn of foot, very well timed ride, very impressive.
September 14, 2008 at 15:37 #180904impressive indeed and a joy to watch, thats what racing at the top level is all about.
the filly against the duke, new approach, soldier of fortune what a race.September 14, 2008 at 15:39 #180905Visually very impressive and done nothing wrong so far. However we just don’t know how she will react to a battle in a finish? It could be that she won’t have to in the Arc, but against, Soldier Of Fortune, Youmzain, Getaway, Vision D’Etat etc she could find things quite different.
I wouldn’t want to be steaming in at 2/1 or less myself at this stage, especially as we don’t know if New Approach or Duke Of Marmalade will line up yet either?
