The horses I like in this are Twice Over and in particular Mawatheeq. Twice Over rarely runs a bad race and is hard to see out of the frame. He was a very close 4th in a very good renewal of this last year, only headed inside the final furlong. Mawatheeq was extrememly progressive last year and looks to have massive potential. He was an unlucky 2nd to Twice Over in the Champion Stakes last yea and I think he may turn the tables.

Here’s a link to last year’s Champion Stakes:

Mawatheeq was a very unlucky loser in my book. He got squeezed for room over a furlong out, and by the time he got going again it was too late, and he was really gaining on Twice Over impressively. Twice Over’s record in Group 1s is 1 from 8, and I think he was a somewhat lucky winner of that Group 1. I know he’s ran some great races in defeat but before the Champion Stakes he struck me as somewhat of a nearly horse. This race doesn’t look as good as when he was just touched off last year but Mawatheeq could be very very good.

Totally agree.. lots of pace on… wouldnt have been beat if clear, holding my bet on this view.. interesting look at the betting screen in opening shot… no odds crash on him… so no complaints for a lack of betting avalanche this time.. tally-ho Dickie, btw i tried send u a pvt mail; u get it…

    Group 1 winner helps…

    It’s a starter anyways…

Winner over the distance? – TO? Glowing gallop reports…but how are the others doing?

    Couldn’t fault it…but couldn’t back it either!

Someone said it was the bet of the century for the Dubai World Cup…

    Not for me…

Neither – Is a horse from a long lay off…

However good he might be – a 5/1 shot for this?! First time up?

There are a couple that meet the trends and also a couple that are on the edge of them…

Said elsewhere – that stats are for changing!

That’s the one worry with Mawatheeq isn’t it, especially given the way he progressed with racing last season. I’m convinced he has a serious motor in him though!

He loves the track is less exposed but something I read combined with the stats would put me off at the price…plus the lay off!

I’ll try to find it hey?!

From the Guardian: (not always my read or right!)

    Horse Sense:

    "

    Twice Over

, favourite for the Prince Of Wale’s Stakes, has been taking the eye in recent weeks as Henry Cecil has gradually wound him up for his first start since Dubai.
He looked in exceptional form when working on the round gallop at the Limekilns yesterday morning under Tom Queally.

    Mawatheeq

, one of Twice Over’s biggest threats in that race, has also been brought back to the boil slowly this year, but despite working well enough is thought to be likely to need the race by trainer Marcus Tregoning, who believes

    ‘Fatanah’

(Ribblesdale Stakes) could be his best chance of success at the royal meeting. She will be again ridden positively."

    I can see

    Twice Over

running away with this at 5/2,so anyone who can still get 4/1,fill your boots! Its one of the easiest races to resolve,i cant see any dangers to him! 8)

Interesting stuff Zenjah, especially given that he’ll need to be spot on to win this.

    Just a thought / question…

do you think that a lot is being made over the times set this year?

Might some be judged too high for what they’ve clocked?

It seems as though records are being broken across the boards or nations…

if they aren’t broken – then they nearly are…

Personally I don’t pay much attention to times but obviously in sprints times come under more scrutiny. In a long distance race alot of variables can effect the time of the race. I’m not an authority on the subject of race times etc. so I’m not going to make a fool of myself here by expanding on my thoughts

Fair enough but ‘Goldi’ is going off short for setting one in part – and ‘Byword’ is fav for this with some for chasing her home!
