What a crying shame! We’ll never know how good he might have been…
August 27, 2011 at 16:05 #369362Very strange coincidence for me this afternoon. I was driving along and Pour Moi popped into my head, I was thinking how he’d become a bot of a forgotten horse. I got in and first thing I heard on CH 4 was this news.
Fabre clearly held him in the highest regard and that probably indicates there may well have been much more to come.
Great moments at Epsom though.
August 28, 2011 at 12:55 #369375Very sad news indeed. As you say David he was obviously held in the highest regard by Mr Fabre and that says it all really.
Still its our loss, and he is off to enjoy himself with the ladies.
Good luck to him, I hope that he becomes a successful stallionAugust 28, 2011 at 20:02 #369405Sad news about Por Moi, we’ll never know how good he could’ve been or not been.
Had potential to improve in to a really special horse. But the facts are the form of this year’s Derby can not be rated highly. Only just beat Treasure Beach who only just beat three others in the Irish Derby, including Epsom third and fourth Carlton House and Memphis Tennessee.
Of course the way Pour Moi won, means he’s a bit better than the head verdict. But that said, ability should not be greatly exaggerated just because of enforced retirement and a glowing report from his trainer.

I took the view that he must be a special horse to win the derby under those circumstances (to which i have already eluded to on the Arc thread). Was only a matter of time until he proved it? As it stands, GT is correct – the form book says he still had it to prove. He will be missed thats for sure. Retired – yes, but still alive, and thats the main thing.
August 29, 2011 at 12:04 #369447I agree with Ginger. However, what an exciting way to win the Derby!
August 30, 2011 at 10:57 #369522Sad news this! pour moi was one of the first horses a won money on! What was his injury?
September 1, 2011 at 16:29 #369631Interesting. A quote from a man on another forum,has some inside knowledge.
Strange. Was in Leopardstown recently to back Daddy Long Legs[O Briens]didnt run.Was talking in stand to a top man and he told me Pour Moi was working very very poorly[lost interest]????
September 2, 2011 at 14:11 #369690Disaster for Coolmore..
He be a hard sell at Stud now
September 2, 2011 at 16:22 #369697His price will determine that I would imagine. With Hurricane Run and Montjeu already there a third one might be a good sell to the less affluent.Hard not to make money with a Derby winner.Apart from that I missed you for a while Ruby.Glad to see you today.
September 2, 2011 at 17:07 #369700Montjeu Derby winners haven’t done much at Stud.
Pedigree isn’t great either on the dam side. Much prefer use Hurricane Run to this fella for a potential Classic type but he has pace that no other Montjeu son has so that is the USP for this horse.
