May 1, 2021 at 01:17 #1538895A good day today and was especially pleased with Walk Away, Rapid Response and El Barra as I’d picked them all out to watch a good while ago so glad they’ve had their day.
The last day tomorrow
but there will be summer fun to be had. Will try to tot up at some point but suspect the final score will be depressing reading.Apparently there is an important Flat race on in England tomorrow as well so I might have a look at that if Sir Ron Priestley wins me some buttons to put on it. I was impressed that he got the closest to Logician in the Leger because the winner was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, also should be fitter than Pyledriver who could be a touch overrated. He will be one of mine to follow on the Flat.
In the first I’ll go with old Josie’s Orders to roll back the years. I don’t know who the jockey is but I see that she won a hurdle on him LTO and also got Blue Templar placed in a decent enough hunter chase. Might be worth her claim. According to the news report from the 100-1 hurdle win, she gets up at 4.30am 3 times a week to travel from Wicklow to Enda Bolger’s yard to ride out. So I would imagine a) she has a bit of drive b) she can ride over banks.
In the 2.50- folly to ignore a Mullins horse, and he’s got a tongue tie on…but OTOH the double green are so keen for a Grand National horse I fear they may be trying to stuff wonky old square pegs into round holes. Might go with little Dromore Lad again who was a 4 length 5th in a 3m handicap hurdle at this festival 2 years ago on similar ground but will wait till closer to the time for a price.
In the mares’ hurdle I’ll back Concertista to bounce back to form.
In the juvenile hurdle it seems to be assumed that Haut en Couleurs will improve massively and win but…Quilixios is a super horse and looks to have the scope to go on and be a star. Cottin horse unknown quantity. Good luck to him.
In the handicap chase I will abandon old Brahma Bull and probably Nick Lost and Whisperinthebreeze of whom I had hoped for more this season, but instead try Myth Buster in the hope that his win was a sign that he is back from the wilderness.
In the handicap hurdle…Mullins all the way. Poor Sayo has got the heave ho and is off to Doncaster sales, so it’s goodbye from me. Sandy Thompson or Shark Hanlon, get your bidding finger ready! He needs cheering up. Doughty little Dandy Mag with the able assistance of Hugh Morgan’s claim will carry my money- nobody else loves him so I’ll get a better price closer to the off. I’ll back Power of Pause now though, really like this horse and he was running a good race when brought down last time. I’ve also added Ciel de Neige– I think he is another who wasn’t quite at himself at the DRF and Cheltenham, and I think he’ll shorten tomorrow. Depending on how things are going might add Bleu Berry whose jockey is riding high.
The stable website says Crack Mome is best watched if he gets in, so no shekels on him but it’s very interesting that he was retained. He was a Wylie horse now owned by Mullins- maybe they just couldn’t shift him cos he’s too unsound or something but he has been kept in feed and farrier and vet’s bills for the past 4 years with only 1 run. In his maiden he spanked Ornua and a mare of Noel Meade’s who in turn walloped an odds on fav of Willie’s next time out. Then he came 2nd in the Moscow Flyer to Any Second Now, then flopped in the Supreme and was off for 2 years, then finished a remote 3rd here 2 years ago. He’s on a good mark if they can get him back.No opinion in the last two although I see there is a Kilbarry mare for me to follow in the bumper and a horse of Martin Brassil’s. Guily Billy looked quite gawky in the sales photo I saw of him but hope he turns out well for Cheveley Park and HdB.

Kilbarry Chianti 66-1 0.5pt ewMay 4, 2021 at 23:01 #1539731Kilbarry Chianti got me a little return for my last bet of the season and looks another nice mare for the stable. I really should tot up this thread properly and start a new one but can’t be bothered tonight so will put tomorrow’s bet on this one. Bryony Frost has been doing well this past week so have gone for a treble at Newton Abbott
Southfield Harvest/Tulin/Eritage 15.40 1 pt win
May 25, 2021 at 16:49 #1542193I normally like the summer jumps but there are a lot of new names and I haven’t really got any new summer favourites to latch onto.
I foolishly frittered a few fivers on Paddy Power’s “place 5 £5 bets and get a £5 bet”, damn it’s addictive…with the result that the tank for that a/c is running low and I don’t want to top up. So my free fiver is going on Rumoroso at Ballinrobe, and thereafter probably back to porridge with my 50p bets, starting with an ew on La Chanteuse.
May 29, 2021 at 08:24 #1542545Rumoruso was disappointed and La Chanteuse was monkeying around before the start and went out like a light half a mile from home. In season, just a sulky Scorpion or something like a breathing issue, who knows.
Some good racing today and 50ps getting scattered on all my 4PP shortlist horses probably. I like the Punchestown card but Sapphire Lady and Bapaume might be my only bets there. Most looking forward to Grangeclare West though. I really hope he can be a star.
May 29, 2021 at 17:00 #1542679Ok it was just an early summer bumper but nice job, Jody Townend could’ve had a cup of coffee and a read of the paper on the way round. I’ve backed him for the Ballymore as don’t have an account with any firm that quoted him for the Albert Bartlett, but he might have enough quality for the shorter race. Early days anyhow.
