Not sure a thread exists on racing podcasts so I thought I’d give it a go. As an avid walker my constant companion in reaching my 20k daily steps are headphones and a steady stream of podcasts. I listen to many different genres, one of which being horse racing naturally. Plenty of them out there but I only listen to a few, so it would be interesting to know what others listen to and recommend.
My favourite is a newish one called “The Sir Bobcast”. Each episode is an interview between Robert Cooper and a guest. I’ve yet to listen to the latest one (Cornelius Lysaght) but have done the other six. All good but I particularly enjoyed David Bass. Luke Harvey was as you’d expect too, an entertaining listen. I’d recommend giving it a go, Cooper is an excellent interviewer, and listener, more importantly.
My regular topical fix is the “Sporting Life Horse Racing Podcast”. It’s not weekly but close to it. Usually presented by Dave Ord with regular guests including Graham Cunningham, Ed Chamberlin and Billy Nash from an Irish perspective. Ord is the star with his quick wit. I’m not a fan of Chamberlin but it’s an easy listen that reviews the previous weekend and previews the coming weekend.
The other one I’ve subscribed to is “Unbridled with Matt Chapman and Paddy Brennan”. It’s a bit faux controversial as I assume it’s mainly a YouTube broadcast, even though I only listen in an audio format. I don’t mind Chapman as when the shock jock act is on hold, he knows his onions. Its maybe not to everyone’s taste though but it’s a bit different and they have interesting guests where Chapman goes beyond the usual banal pre- and post-race chat.
Although it seems to have ended by now, I also subscribed to “George & Charlie: Off The Bridle” with George Scott and Charlie Fellowes. There’s more than a touch of jolly hockey sticks about it but I’ve enjoyed the infrequent episodes when they’ve dropped over the years. Scott and Fellowes are clearly good friends and both are naturals in front of a mic. It’s also held together well by the presenter, Tony Rushmer. Several seasons and quite a big back catalogue that’s worth delving into.
Look forward to reading any replies and recommendations by others!
December 11, 2025 at 10:15 #1747219To be perfectly honest I don’t really know what a podcast is!
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysDecember 11, 2025 at 17:50 #1747252Not heard any of those Cyrmo but will give them a Listen.
The barstewards enquiry is by far the best horse racing podcast entertainment wise but I would avoid it if you are easily offended. I’ve never been convinced that they are the best tipsters and they definitely prefer the flat versus jumps -but they do make a living out the game.
The other one I would recommend is Take a Pull (Tap) which soley focuses on irish jumps racing but does discuss wider topics.
December 11, 2025 at 18:05 #1747255I have never heard of the Sir Bobcast. I will check it out – I always liked Sir Bob on SSR. He didn’t take himself too seriously and I imagine he is a good interviewer.
Agree with Kendicate about the Barstewards. It is worth a listen but I wish they would tone down the language. It becomes more than a little tedious after a while.
I wouldn’t say I am any sort of admirer of William Hill paid spokesman Nick Luck but there is no denying his podcast is good to listen to sometimes.
If “Unbridled” qualifies as a podcast, then RTV’s “Road To Cheltenham” (available on YouTube) presumably qualifies as well.
December 11, 2025 at 18:12 #1747257Apart from unbridled, which I really like ( never thought Chapman could be so nice or Paddy be so funny) I tend to use podcasts as a way of trying to have a bit of time off from racing so stick to history or book podcasts. But I’ll check some of those out.
December 11, 2025 at 18:34 #1747263I do listen to a number of non racing podcasts (all thanks to Covid) but the only racing one I listen to on a regular basis is the Nick Luck Daily. Chapman appears on that too but Jane Mangan is my favourite guest.
If you’re interested in True Crime I would definitely recommend listening to the podcast Sea of Lies.
December 11, 2025 at 19:58 #1747269Thanks all for the replies and recommendations. I know what you mean about Unbridled, Cork All Star. I found it via Apple Podcasts but it seems clear it’s geared for YouTube. Still easy to listen to though and I enjoy it.
I’ve been tempted by the Barstewards but wasn’t fully convinced. As I only follow the jumps I’ll probably steer clear.
I’ll definitely give Take a Pull a listen, that sounds right up my street. Another one I forgot to mention was Oddscrackers with Jon Babb. I really enjoy Babb when he’s on WH Racing Radio but sadly it finished a few years ago.
I’ll also give Sea of Lies a listen. Likewise for true crime, I was hooked by West Cork and found myself Googling so many aspects of the case after I’d listened to it. Highly recommended.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy The Sir Bobcast. You’ll also find yourself tapping along to the theme tune!
December 11, 2025 at 20:27 #1747272I quite like Emma Nagle and Vincent Finegan on The Irish Angle (another youtube talking heads thing). They work well together and Emma often comes up with horses to follow that aren’t obvious ones.
December 11, 2025 at 20:53 #1747276Thanks for the heads up about the Bobcast.
I like listening to Nick Luck’s and there’s a YouTube show with 3 young lads called only fools love horses that is decent. The really young lad on it Harry is particularly exuberant and could do with just calming down a little but Ash and Lee are great to listen to.
Barstewards canned their Friday show sometime ago due to nothing other than failing to tip hardly any winners between them and that’s never a good look for people who are pretty cocksure of themselves and their ability to make a few quid from the game.
I also enjoy the oddschecker youtube show and believe that’s also on Spotify now. Hosted quite often by Rishi Persad and has people like Andy Holding (who’s about the best around for giving winners out imo) and Ed wicket on.
December 11, 2025 at 21:02 #1747279Is Jon Babb the one who always goes off for a meal when he’s on W Hill? WHill Radio was what got me through the pandemic when racing resumed and I still listen to it most days. Paddy Aspell introduced everyone to vegan mayonnaise.
