Won a few quid this afternoon so decided to play up my winnings on the only sport that was being shown live on Sky Sports this evening…. Elite League Speedway.
Had £40 at 11/1 on Belle Vue to win by 15 points or more and £50 on Belle Vue at 10/1 to win by a margin of 11-14 points.
Going into the last race, Belle Vue were winning the meet by 14 points. The only way I could lose was if Coventry scored a 5-1 victory (finished first and second).
Chriss Harris (Coventry) jumped the tapes, and his team mate bailed out at the first bend (fell of his bike). Now I’m not an expert on Speedway but I thought if a) someone jumped the tapes, or b) someone fell (independently) then that person was excluded from the race.
But no. All four riders were allowed to race again. The result, this time the Coventry riders got a brill start, a Belle Vue rider fell (but cos he got his bike off the track the race continued) and secured a 5-1 heat win, meaning Belle Vue only won the meet by 10 points (and I lost)
1) Have I got the rules wrong? Why were all four riders allowed to restart?
2) Should I just go and get a crate of beer, get hammered, and forget it?

A sport that is shown as a last resort during the summer months when cricket has either finished or called off due to snow storms. It also doubles up as a sport where Liverpudlians nick bikes and try to evade the capture of the police.
