I guess most of you are focused on UK racing so the following will be of no interest, however,i`m convinced the French betting market is less educated thus easier to crack, despite returns being generated by a Tote pool system the rake and liquidity are more than fair in my opinion!!

Following exploration and a read through the rules book at:

    http://www.pmu.fr/pmu/html/fr/paris/ima … lement.pdf

    I`ve reached the following conclusions:-

liquidity in the win market using an average PMU race

    Midweek Euro 160K to 250K
    Weekend 220 to 300

Major race like Tierce 350 to 500K

Liquidity in the place market is about 60-80% higher than the win market

Rake (Take out)…..if using page 108 of the above PDF file

    (PARIS DU GROUP 0)

Win/place/forecast etc 12,0024% taxation is 0% unless return is in excess of 1000* stake

The Tierce as a rake of 24.3% and comes under “PARIS GROUP 2" then theirs a further tax depending on the “quote“ ranging from 0 to 25%

The above became effective Dec 2006

The only confusion for me is when im looking at the PMU prices on screen or at the track the average over-round is about 117.2% which would mean an hold of about 14.7%!!

Theexercise for me was evaluating the depth of the market in order to gain a clearer picture of the impact of my stakes if they where dumped in the pools.

If you like betting on French racing consider opening an account at http://www.unibet.com ,they pay 5% bonus on PMU returns, i must admit i`ve not used them has it wouldn`t last long ,ican cover most of my bets through differant contacts in several locations although i can never gaurantee that they are not dumping!!

Useless info for most but its sure to interest a few !!

Things may be set for change in France as a bookmaker has won a case to start operating on French horse racing online and also the right to promote the service within France.

    Tony – or anyone else,

Would be interested to know if anyone else has used ZE Turf (Maltese-based rival tote pool focussed mainly on French racing)? If so, what do you think of it, and is this the bookmaker you referred to Wallace?

It`s my business to know about the European gaming market so i`m well aware of whats going on in France/Sweden/Denmark/Germany/Italy/Poland/Romania/Finland/Spain and others !!

The ruling Wallace is refering to:

July 10th 2007, the Cour de Cassation overturned the ban which prevented Zeturf from offering online betting on French horseracing. The case will now be sent back before the appeal court of Paris which in Jan 2006 found in favour of the PMU and increased fines imposed on Zeturf to 50K per day,in it`s judgement they said the ban was legitimate!!

You can believe me, Bookmakers `being allowed to have a physical presence in France won`t be happening any time soon!! These monopols take some breaking down,if you only knew half the crap we have to go through in Sweden and Germany

Personally i think Unibet are your best bet as they have the 5% bonus,if you like head to head betting http://www.onextwo.com are the way to go, unibet.co.uk have a UK licence if you prefer betting with local Bookies!!

Zeturf website is ok if you are wanting a look at the program!!
