He has no chance !!!, large fields of lottery like handicaps, wall to wall racing , loads of hellish unsolveable races to relieve them of their hard earned cash , and all for the biggest collaboration with the bookies to make them richer and by default racing gets a measly share to carry on …..
If any of you Saturday only folks are reading this , do yourselves a favour and wash the car instead ….you wont lose your cash ,
Racing for change my foot

May 8, 2010 at 10:25 #294634With two Group 3’s and three Listed races on TV today Ricky, can’t see that.
It’s surely up to punters to choose the races they want to bet in.
Value Is EverythingMay 8, 2010 at 10:33 #294637No pleasing some people.

Today you have 4 small field Listed races, 2 small field Group 3’s, Group racing at Saint-Cloud and Derrinstown day tomorrow.
The big field hugely competitive Class B Saturday handicaps are always popular with punters and laden with all sorts of angles.
Enjoy the car washing…
May 8, 2010 at 10:44 #294643Mark , agree about choices , unfortunately the Saturday punter normally plays the early races , which are usually laden with minefields and cash is gone
Cav, not all casual punters are as clued up, as your goodself , hence the post
cheers
Ricky
May 8, 2010 at 10:52 #294647Today 2 of the first 3 races are Listed/Group contests with small fields and loads of exposed form, Ricky, so should give the shop boys a decent chance of a good start.
Really looking forward to seeing Reggane back on a sound surface in the 2:10 at Lingers.
May 8, 2010 at 11:34 #294649If the Saturday punter is as ill-informed as you suggest Ricky, surely he’s going to lose his cash whichever day of the week he plays.
May 8, 2010 at 11:37 #294650Funny, my youngest daughter has aked me to wash her car
…think I’ll watch the racing and have a small investment on Duncan and Timepiece instead. There are alternatives to handicaps you know.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
May 8, 2010 at 12:00 #294663Corm et al . are we chosing to ignore my point though , the programme of racing and in particular saturday racing when Joe punter is not locked away at work , he jovially sets out to beat the bookie or fellow punter on the exchanges , it is becoming increasingly impossible with the mass of hard to extremly hard handicaps for him to unfathom …..all cleverly collaborated with the bookies , for a few crumbs from the masters table , as the bookies call the shots , and will continue to do so until we dump them
enjoy the day whatever you do
Ricky

Or alternatively a chance to back horses at decent prices particularly for those who favour betting each-way, of which I’m sure there are plenty betting on a Saturday.
From a purely selfish point of view it’s big field handicaps that have provided the bulk of my profit over recent seasons.

May 8, 2010 at 12:10 #294671I agree with Rob.
At least in these valuable handicaps you know the horses are very fit and ready to run to the best of their ability for the good prize money.
In the bulk of midweek racing you take it on trust that ‘today is the day’ for your horse, rather than the handicap next month that the trainer has underlined in their fixture list…
May 8, 2010 at 12:19 #294677Ricky i will be washing my
Dhaular Dhar
tomorrow after i have celebrated having a profitable Saturday!
May 8, 2010 at 13:27 #294692I’ve just noticed that there is a 2yo mdn over 6f at Haydock today. Am I mistaken, or did the first 6f race traditionally used to be at York? Another milestone in the season moved.

The first maiden over a particular distance is hardly a milestone, Gerald.
As for Saturday punters being unfortunate, Ricky, I would suggest that Lingfield’s atrocious draw bias (more than two yards off the rail and you’re done for – not that Mr Mosse appeared overly keen to make Reggane competitive) is of more concern than a plethora of diverse and competitive cards.
God help us when a day’s racing is reduced to two six-race cards, each ‘contest’ comprising of five runners and an odds-on favourite.
May 8, 2010 at 13:51 #294702Good, competitive racing on a Saturday afternoon – can’t argue with that.
Channel Four are broadcasting three listed events, two Group 3 classic trials, two decent handicaps (including the Victoria Cup) and a Swinton Hurdle.
I can appreciate racing without having a bet and this is a solid terrestrial card that most enthusiasts of the sport can enjoy, I’m sure.
I generally have a small ew Lucky 15 on a Saturday and will continue to enjoy todays action – win, or lose.
Some great finishes, thus far.

Yeah, well these are the kinds of things I used to measure the season by. The first N’sery H’cap is at the Magnet Cup meeting, ain’t it?
May 8, 2010 at 14:58 #294719In this world of global wage arbitrage I never wash my own car any more. I always leave that to the Pole who patrols the car park next to the local No Morals on Saturday mornings, while I pop in to engage in a bit of Sir Tom following.
He’ll do the job for six of your English pounds. On weeks when I’m collecting the previous Saturday’s winnings I tip him an extra quid in return for him popping into No Morals and shouting "ha ha ha you pay my wages".
A truly beautiful sight.
May 8, 2010 at 15:08 #294722Personally I prefer the big field handicaps as they offer more each way opportunity for the small time punter … with any punting, as my Dad used to tell me, know your limits and don’t bet what you can’t afford to lose.
Had two small win bets and an ew double today on the two big handicaps … Big Noise in the Victoria who finished 5th (of course) and Eradicate in the Swinton (took 25’s) … sorry for the after time, guys … only spotted this morning he was 18lbs better off with Overturn (incl David Bass’ 7lb allowance) and thought today’s conditions were perfect for him.
Nice return on the day
