Well, I’m going to miss old
Pins
.
But in his honour I’ve prepared a special tea of marinated fish fingers, served with oven chips and baked beans. And shall be toasting his good health with a glass of Espana (£3.49 from the Co-op).
November 22, 2011 at 18:29 #379204in my opinion , this thread has been revealing in a number of respects
Its Hot in the Kitchen
Too many Chefs..
Prickly heat by a lake
Burns fingers,
Tip toe across the chards
of Glowing embers,
still spitting fire
into a moonlit night
where bright Stars cast
Shadows of the fallen
from grace.
Round a table gathered
are we,
waiting to be fed
like vultures.
A Feast of Pinza
makes fine dining
in our 5 star Rest
or Rant!November 22, 2011 at 19:27 #379225in my opinion , this thread has been revealing in a number of respects , notably the way Corm showed his hand , I dont think his image of the benevolent forum guy works anymore …No Sir indeed
What do you mean by that Ricky? In what way did I ‘show my hand’ that was ‘revealing’? As far as I am concerned I was pretty open about the whole thing. Pinza had private and public warnings. If you’ve got something to say or suspect me of some ulterior motive come out with it and I’ll discuss it with you instead of all your petty, childish beating around the bush and whispering in corners.
What is REALLY galling, amid all the messages of support for which I am very grateful, is the lack of trust that I might actually have a clue what I am doing. We HARDLY EVER ban anyone. To get banned you really do have to go above and beyond. When faced with a situation when I’ve warned someone on various occasions and they take no notice what do you want me to do? Go on Ricky, what should I do?
We hardly ever have to moderate posts. 99.9% of the people who post (including yourself) abide by the very simple and straightforward rules/guidelines we have. I’m interested in those 99.9%, not the 0.1% intent on ignoring those rules/guidelines because they feel they know best.
We’ve got a great forum IMO and I intend to keep it that way.
I am VERY sure I made the right decision to ban Pinza. Just as I made
absolutely
the correct decision when I banned Ken (West Derby) and Conundrum. The public comments posted in various locations since Sunday by Pinza and Conundrum attacking me personally and the forum generally should hopefully highlight what I was dealing with and convince people who were unsure if I’d acted in the best interests of the forum.
November 22, 2011 at 19:45 #379231Corm , I think you need to calm down , I am happy to discuss with you by mail or phone , if you want it to be public so be it
I am not whispering in corners and frankly I am a bit saddened by that remark
its your call ,
Ricky
November 22, 2011 at 20:27 #379237Sorry Ricky – bit strong there, I appreciate you’re not a talking in corners type.
I’m just frustrated that there seems to be a notion that I’d ban someone simply because I disagreed with their views. In that case I’d have banned half the forum long since! My only interest is in maintaining a functioning forum. If someone gets in the way of that then I have to do something about that. That’s my part of the bargain.
November 22, 2011 at 20:36 #379240Paul there are times when you dont half remind me of Lieutenant John Chard!

I can live with that – I’ve been compared with far worse
November 23, 2011 at 09:12 #379289Tell you what lets just forget about it and move on
For the record though , I dont think your passionate anti whip views should have been aired with such vigour , it kinda compromised your stance as forum boss as well
That;s what I meant by showing your hand …it was not pretty , but then again the entire debate was a tough one
Appreciate your views on the banning situation , but from a complete outsiders view of events , it looked like a ban in a fit of pique …, anyway lets just get on with it …
I will miss the posts of Pinza , we need some colour around here , as its been dead for ages
Ricky
November 23, 2011 at 10:14 #379299I’ve just read some of hs comments on the Nicky Henderson thread, and, with apologies to everyone, no one comes close for eloquence in such a barbed and witty way [eloquence, yes]. Totally disregarding the fact that I agreed with him about ‘that which dare not speak it’s name’, I just loved reading anything he wrote. And possibly suspect a little bit of jealousy from a few people who have since come out with vitriolic comments about him? However, I also understand that you can’t have every thread turned into an issue about one thing and agree that moderating a forum is a nightmare at times. From the very start of the new rules being introduced only Pinza and Kingfisher saw the possible outcome of those rules, all of which reflected my gut feeling about the whole issue, of which I didn’t have the words to express adequately on a public forum. Give him credit for standing by those opinions no matter what anyone threw at him. I didn’t see many people congratulating him after Champions day, although a few opinions seemed to change more towards his during the course of the debate. Anyway, I agree that we need to move on for the sake of the forum.
November 23, 2011 at 11:37 #379310To say that only Pinza and Kingfisher saw the possible outcomes of the new rules is utterly ridiculous. The possible outcomes are many and varied, that Pinza could only see one possible outcome and refused to countenance that any thinking individual could keep an open mind was a sign of his bombastic nature that displayed itself in unpleasant ways once too often.

Why?
It’s not compulsory for you to either contribute or read the thread is it?

It’s because Paul and OTS can see the writing on the wall and which way the wind is blowing. They can read between the lines and understand coded messages. Paul is a bright lad, and so is Onthesteal. They can see which way this is headed. There are some people (like me) who might be tempted to post what they feel, but have held back, not wanting to make a tricky situation any worse. So I guess Paul and OTS might be thinking that deleteing the thread is a nicer ending than what otherwise may be.
Have another read of the last page or so. Pretend its Question of Sport – you know, the What Happens Next question.

I’m not so sure how good a judge you are MV.
As Pinza points out regards your analysis of him where you said "Pinza has verbal skills aplenty, but he also had an ego that forced him to abandon debate in favour of winning".
It’s not the impression I got MV and Pinza replied to your view with
"Such statements reflect how the speaker sees things himself: as a committed Empsonian I must tell him that I rather see life in shades of grey, not black and white.
I’m much more interested in urging fellow enthusiasts to analyse what they are saying, in questioning them and defining terms rather than "winning" anything. That’s not how debate works".November 23, 2011 at 18:26 #379357Eddie,
I would, genuinely, like to hear your view of why you think Paul and OTS suggested that now would be a good time to close or delete the thread.
I could also write 100 lines of: "I must refrain from making judgements about other people, until I become better at it." A sort of penance for misjudging Pinza.

Marginal you are wicked sometimesseriously though I think Corm is now having a lay down in a darkened room somewhere in the wilds of Scotland … with a large toddy in his hand ….(for medicinal purposes )
I think Paul is dead clever , so probably best not to delete this thread , as its probably got some life left in it yet
