For a bit of interest on a quiet day.

I find the art of training racehorses quite fascinating and would love to know more about it.

If you owned two horses and wanted one based in the North and one based in the South. Your looking for a stable with around 50 horses max, just to take the more obvious trainers out of the equation. Who would you choose?

North – I think Tony Coyle would be high on my list. I think he would do very well with a better quality string.

South – Ed De Giles would be strongly considered. Very good strike rate and places his horse very well.

As you can probably tell, I’m a bit bored and should be working!

I had a share in a horse with John Quinn a couple of years back. Really nice man, got a lot of time for his owners and lovely set up in Malton.

Unfortunately ,the horse and syndicate was not as good as the trainer!

NORTH I would have to say either Tim Easterby or John Quinn

SOUTH Luca Cumani without any doubt whatsoever!!

    Vic Dartnall and Don Cantillon

Generally unheralded but consistently decent placers of their horses

None in UK i’d run in France for some real prize money, respect and a lovely day’s racing. A day at Clarefontaine is about one of the best days racing I’ve experienced. Mumm champagne at 4E a glass, lovely lunch, wonderful surroundings. No Brainer. Oh yes, the trainer I’d pick J P Gallorini.

I’d pick one slap bang in the middle in Jennie Candlish. She’s a smashing trainer who just needs that one superstar to get her on the map. She’s so capable and i’d trust her with my horse any day.

Midlands again – Dr Richard Newland seems pretty decent….

Clearly in te south Sir mark Prescott is a fine trainer – but that’s a very predictable answer!

    North : Sandy Thompson
    South : Sophie Leech

Both do well with moderate horses
