This looks like a very good race.
Won last year by Reve De Sivola.
Looks a nice little race this year and a very competitive one at that too.
Surprised that Lidar is quoted at around 16/1, i think he could run well tomorrow, he has a decent enough rating at the moment, 122, and i know the yard are hoping tomorrow will give some clues regarding how well he has come back from injury and also i think 2 miles 4 is ideal for him. Aintree’s 2 miles was quite quickk and sharp for him, so i think 2 miles 4 will suit him down to the ground.
Silviniaco Conti was a horse that went straight in my notebook after his excellent win last time out, and looks to be decent value at 9/2, for a horse that could be special. Tomorrow will tell us more about how good that race at Bangor earlier in the month was, and possibly, how good Silviniaco Conti could be, over 2 miles 4 furlongs, rather than 2 miles (the distance at Bangor when winning last time out). Didnt look like stopping last race, seemed to have a lot of speed and stamina, as he took the race up from a long way out. Will be interesting to see how he gets the added 3-4 furlongs tomorrow.
The other interesting runner in the race, away from the favourite, is Frascati Park. I was at Twisters earlier in the year talking to the assistant trainer, regarding Frascati Park. Definitely one to keep an eye on in future. 6/1 is quoted at the moment. Was 2nd to Escort’men earlier in the year, who won at Chepstow earlier in the month, so at 6/1 he may represent value.
3 horses there that could provide value, if we ignore the favourite, Captain Chris.
I know that Philip Hobbs was maybe going to give Captain Chris a wind op, but had an endoscopy, and didnt have an operation in the end. With this in mind, i think the trainer wants to step him up in trip and see how his stamina is, as previously he has run over 2 miles and 2 miles 1 furlong.
I would imagine that if Captain Chris wins this, then he will be entered into the Greatwood Hurdle, however, will probably go novice chasing if he doesn’t.
A nice little race, and certainly one which should provide winners/solid horses in the coming season(s).

I don’t know where Silviniaco Conti stands in the pecking order at ditchet but I presume it can’t be too high. He won by 29 lengths at Bangor in waht was a fairly poor comeptition but went of easly to back at 2/1 2nd fav.
Don’t know about wind ops but it sems every horse who as much as takes a deep breath get’s one these days.
I would love to think someone is crazy enough to put Captain Chris up at evens when the markets open but I would imagine he’ll be nearer 4/7.
Most high class hurdlers kick off off a bit later than this but Hobbs will want to win what he can with this horse before the weather turns everything into a bog.
He appeared late on the scene last season when the ground started drying up.I’d imagine he’ll be well fit for this, his string are in great form and I’ll be amazed if any of these can mount a serious challenge..

I think he could turn out to be very good.
Another nice win there and did it quite easily too.

From Nicholls’s Betfair preview:
"Won two juvenile hurdles for Guillaume Macaire in France, and I have to say the manner of his victory surprised me at Bangor, where he won by 29 lengths. He could well have been flattered by the way the race was run, but he could do no more than win as he did. This is his last run over hurdles as he loses his novice status on November 1, and if the official handicapper is right he has 10lb to find with Captain Chris, who I have huge respect for, as he is a gorgeous and potentially top class prospect."
Did he really underestimate Silviniaco Conti that much? I can’t see it somehow.
Looks a top class chasing prospect.

Amazing they’re thinking about fencing so soon.
Minute I saw the price of Captain Chris the alarm bells started ringing. Don’t know if he needed it or simply doesn’t go on the softened ground. no disrespect towards the winner I’d totally ignore that run.

Did you back Captain Chris, Fist?
From Phillip Hobbs’s stable tour:
“It is quite amazing what he achieved in a short space of time last season; fourth in his bumper in mid-February then won his next three hurdles rounding off at Cheltenham in April off 146. We are absolutely delighted with him at home, everything’s gone well, and he’ll go to Kempton later in October with Menorah for a listed novice hurdle — because he won his first hurdle in March he’s a novice until November. After that we’ll decide if he’s going over fences or not. He hasn’t schooled yet and he should be better over two and a half miles but we haven’t run him over that yet! His chase target would be the Arkle but if he were to win easily at Kempton then I’d probably have to look at the Greatwood Hurdle. He copes with soft ground but better on good.”
