HOW DARE YOU compare me with that man – my lawyers will be in touch in due course
November 14, 2013 at 19:45 #25082Apologies for a self-indulgent post.
As some of you already know I’m finishing with racing after Fontwell on Sunday and this is my final post on the forum.
I’m not going to rehash all the reasons here, they have been more than aired in my blogs and on my website.
I just want to say thanks for listening to my ramblings for the past few years.
I have met some great people through racing and through this forum in particular and I will be staying in touch with some of you – you know who you are you unlucky people.
We’ve had some interesting and sometimes lively discussions over the years and by and large they have been friendly although I apologise if I lost it and got carried away on occasion.
This is an excellent forum and David, the team and the moderators work damned hard to keep it going – for free. Things sometimes go wrong with technology and giving David grief when it happens isn’t really fair – that’s my last moan.
I nearly finished after Kelso last Saturday where I had a good day meeting David and Rob North but after chatting with David and Rob decided Fontwell, where I first went racing many, many moons ago, would be a more fitting finalé and I’m being joined by my oldest friend, who took me racing that first day.
The plan is to have nothing to do with racing for a year and I’ll see how I feel then. Hopefully absence will make the heart grow fonder and I will come back to the sport – but only as an "ordinary" racegoer if I do.
Meanwhile I have several new projects to work on and, hopefully, will get a chance to spend some time on the golf course, I haven’t had time to play a round of golf for seven years.
So may I finish by wishing you all, from those who have become friends to those with whom I’ve been at it hammer and tongs, all the very best for the future and happy punting.
November 14, 2013 at 20:09 #458323Great Poster you are Paul and I’d say a fair and reasonable guy to boot, your knowledge of this great sport is 2nd to none and your helpfulness towards others on here deserves reward.I will miss you and hope you return in any shape or form. I’ll let you get your swing ‘grooved’ before suggesting a round of Golf at Breadsall Priory in the heart of Derbys,a very testing but beautiful Golf course.Take care and enjoy your retirement but take it from me no matter how addictive Golf is and its the only past-time that takes my mind off horses for 5 hrs you wont miss
My Tent or Yours

coming up that famous hill in March as the Golf plays 2nd fiddle! Good Luck its been a pleasure reading you.

Gord.edit.This thread should be moved to the ‘Horse racing’ section as the lounge is only inhabited by those of us with Demons! Paul deserves a better send off than from just those of us who frequent this sordid arena.

Jesus Christ! (apologies for the religious blasphemy )
If racing isn’t frustrating enough you’re now going to put yourself through the purgatory (apologies again) that is golf. If you take up the offer of TAPK be sure to insist on a buggy if you play the Priory course as I nearly killed the father in law one sunny July afternoon by making him walk round.
Although we haven’t always seen eye to eye particularly with regard to non turf racing, I wish you well in your new pursuits and I’m sure you won’t be able to stay away too long from the thrills and excitement of a January night at good old Wolverhampton.
"It’s not goodbye it’s just au revoir"
November 14, 2013 at 22:06 #458330All the best Paul , and good luck in whatever you do !!!
I would say the day Mr Bittar releases the full content of the doping files , would be a good day to come back , it will be the day I am having a bet , but till then I guess I wont

Ricky

November 14, 2013 at 23:01 #458338Best wishes,Paul, hope life is more relaxing for you with only one handicap to work on.
November 14, 2013 at 23:21 #458341A year or more without Racing?
You’re made of strong stuff Paul. Best wishes……Blackbeard to conquer the World
November 15, 2013 at 00:24 #458344You could have made one more trip to Kelso for the Borders National, Paul! As it is we’ll hopefully see you there next year instead [post sabatical]. mo xx
November 15, 2013 at 09:05 #458357All the best Osterbeast; your posts here and blog there were a good read
Not too many sad toxic-mouthed individuals on here I hope
I toyed with golf once: the divots went the right way and the ball went the wrong way, or nowhere at all
I would recommend whiling away summer days at inconsequential County Cricket matches; which are nearly as fabulous as winter days at inconsequential NH gaffs
I’m still paying out on the 3/1 laid against APRacing returning to TRF, so I’ll be extra cautious this time and offer only Evens you returning
Farewell unloved Milton Keynes, hello nice old market town?

all comes out a bit weird when their feet connect with the mouth of a mountain lion.
You also highlighted the fish and chip shop in Hexham high Street.
Don’t worry about the fur season, or a fishy hole in one, get yourself an armchair, preferably on a knoll, with wings to hide in.

The pictures are even more resplendent

get your dress and your antlers neat
and do your little Bo Peep

and whisper deep – little sheep

grab your things
hold tight to the wings
we’re off to Singapore
where a rickshaw awaits
pawn your antlers there
and buy us a crate and
we’ll celebrate like

November 15, 2013 at 15:00 #458401Good luck Paul. But GOLF!!! ? Surely you’d rather go racing at Chester.
November 19, 2013 at 16:30 #459008Farewell and
bon chance
, Osterbeast. It’s been a pleasure. Even the diametrically opposing political bits. Mostly.
Still very much backing myself to get you to a Point-to-Point in the near future, if the racing hiatus doesn’t extend to that. You live too close to around half a dozen circuits (including a couple of outstanding ones) not to be able to go untempted for long, surely…
Will be in touch via the usual social media again very soon, no doubt. Cheers, sir!
