Anyone looking for strength in the saddle this weekend need look no futher than Sir Richard Hills.

What happened to him on Zahoo (6/4) at Newbury on Thursday? should have hacked up. Haven’t seen such a weak effort from a "top" jockey for some time, there was also that one at Royal Ascot beaten by Strong Suit, if I fancy one and he’s on, it’s a negative for me.

Elzaam, I had £40 on at 5/1 and was counting my pennies.

My Dad never backs a horse with Richard Hills on, and hasn’t done for 10 years, like me thinks he has such a cushy role and is such an average jockey. I haven’t forgiven him for the ride on Elzaam either. Over-rated.

Has Hughes even had a ride for Bin Suroor this year?

He may get a better quality of horse overall but Hanagan gets more than enough point and shoot jobs up north

Richard rode an odds on chance for the boys in blue last night, Jaridh at Wolverhampton mate.

That makes it one ride each for the season then for Godolphin

    Do your research fella.

Apologies Matthew, pulling on the wrong statistics.

Besides, Hughes hardly is littered with rides from Bin Suroor. Majority of his wins are for Hannon and he has a better strike rate riding for his main retainer than Hanagan.

Not fussed who wins in truth both have done well for the amount of winners they have ridden and deserve the credit they get for their efforts over the season.

Two completely contrasting jockeys, Hanagan has long been marked in my book as one of the best front running jockeys in the business and on the other hand Hughes is in a league of his own on a hold up job.

Should be a good title battle again next year, with Moore and Fallon likely to want top dog next year.

Spot on, Hughes is so cool on a hold up, as is Timmy Murphy on the jumps.

Hanagan should have got a ban but didn’t

Think the York stewards looked after their Northern boy

Southern stewards less indulgent and administer one day stick ban to Hanagan at Goodwood today!

For what it’s worth , Mark Tompkins also felt a Hanagan ban was required at York:-

    From the Sportling Life site:-

TRAINER Mark Tompkins feels title-chasing jockey Paul Hanagan was fortunate to have escaped a careless riding ban at York on Saturday.

Hanagan, who leads Richard Hughes in the Flat jockeys’ championship by nine, won the closing handicap on Tepmokea, but his mount appeared to drift across eventual third Kathleen Frances, who is trained by Tompkins.

Speaking on his website, Tompkins said: "I cannot believe there was no stewards’ inquiry and that Paul Hanagan did not get days for hampering Kathleen inside the final furlong.

"Maybe the York stewards wanted to get off home early, but I would have liked to have seen some sort of investigation. Jockeys have been given days constantly for a lot less than happened here.

"I have no favourite in the jockeys’ championship and wish them both well but feel, on this occasion, he was very lucky not to have been banned."

Why did Tompkins not object if he thought Hanagan ran across his horse?

I would expect Hughes to unfurl the white flag of surrender this weekend.

He rides at Newmarket on Friday afternoon but misses Wolves in the evening.

    Ban then kicks in.

He will also be off to the Breeders Cup

Why did Tompkins not object if he thought Hanagan ran across his horse?

Because his filly was third and wouldn’t have been promoted under the rules. Does anyone object anymore?

Anyone looking for strength in the saddle this weekend need look no futher than Sir Richard Hills. Rallied to win the group 3 at Ascot on Saturday and galvanised Waseet at York on Friday to put his head in front where it mattered.

Unlike all the other imposters that people bang on about being strong in a finish, who invariably seem to be on steering jobs, he did it on two complete and utter rags.

Another extremely tepid effort from Hills in the finish on El Muqbil, cantering all over Frankie’s horse he couldn’t get him home first, swap the jockeys and El Muqbil’s a clear winner. What a liability this jockey is, glad I didn’t back it, backers must be fuming and Brian Meehan tearing his hair out.

ZAhoo is very one paced and a return to 12f must be imminent, don’t think there was a lot more to get out of that horse over 10f.

Returns 15/2 stepped up to 12f, judge the horse first…. Though as a counter argument Hills was not on board

Yes, I remember you saying that TBRACING, well done, hope you backed it today. Think the guy on the day on RUK said the same when he was beaten in that race over 10fs but still think it would have prevailed with a better jockey on

The change of tactics has been crucial to Zahoo’s improvement. She was in front too soon at Goodwood and Newbury, and then wasn’t quick enough over 10f at Doncaster last week. Wouldn’t be surprised to see her make it in listed company or higher next year.
