Market up for this…………
https://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/ante-post-racing/national-hunt/paddy-power-gold-cup/winner
Long term fancy for this is Herbiers, and he’s in there at the moment, albeit at 20’s, which is a lot shorter than I was hoping for. Think he’s got the right profile for this, and he should be up to it. Big fan of the yard, and they could also target Gesskile here, but perhaps his priority may lie at Aintree. Nice couple of horses, but Herbiers the definite preference for this right now.
Midnight River couldn’t land this off a lower mark last year, but he just keeps getting better, and I couldn’t rule him out to better last years effort (though I want him heading to Newbury)
Shakem Up’Arry faded out of it eventually in The Plate, but I think he could improve beyond that this year, and I’d give him a real chance, while I really liked the attitude of Bill Baxter in The Topham, but he’s another who’s got to have a real chance of heading to Aintree instead.
Nassalam could be an interesting one for The Gary Moore yard, and he’s been knocking on the door in races like this already. One of these days it’ll click, and he’s definitely on my radar.
I’ll wait and see what Irish raiders get an entry, and even though he’s likely to stay up in trip, I’d love to see The Goffer given a chance, but Elliot doesn’t tend to target this race strongly.
Definitely a wait and see job once the entries come out, and I’ve no intention of having a bet before them, but thought I’d get the thread going with the market up
Herbiers definitely the main hope right now, but plenty of time to change my mind
Herbiers
Torn and Frayed is the big standout at entry stage. 40’s is massive, but I just have to take his well-being on trust.
Do Your Job another interesting one for me
Final bets……
Ended up with Torn and Frayed Antepost Win 20’s after completely missing the 40’s, and Black Gerry EW 5Pls on the day
October 4, 2023 at 10:01 #1665547167% book with just two firms (Paddy Power and BetfairSportsBook sand outfit) listing horses that might not even be entered and not listing horses that might actually be entered, not to mention the marks they will all run off (though you have a fair idea there) – yes, I can wait too.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 10, 2023 at 14:54 #1666161Stage Star a grade one winner at the festival off 155 in this. That’s a mark of an Irish handicapper
October 25, 2023 at 12:07 #1668010It’s a very obvious call I suppose but I’m siding with Eamonn here. I think that 8-1 looks fair for Stage Star
I haven’t had a bet on either of these yet, but my second choice for the Hennessy is Complete Unknown + I also like him here
October 29, 2023 at 15:28 #1668549A few at the top of the market in this falling by the wayside after today, going to cut up
November 3, 2023 at 11:45 #1668910Stage Star 6-1 ew. The Real Whacker confirmed here so weights not going up.
November 3, 2023 at 12:12 #1668913Fugitif catches my eye.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
November 3, 2023 at 13:25 #1668918Stage star is far too short to make him a sensible bet. I’m not sure he’s anything out of the ordinary. He was impressive in the turners but excuses can be made for the two Irish horses and aside from them he’s beaten nothing so far.
Two I like are stolen silver who’s taken his form to a new level. Loves Cheltenham.
Sebastopol would interest me were he to actually run. Never seems to run a bad race and there’s a race at newton abbot (stop sniggering) which is throwing out winners left right and centre.
November 3, 2023 at 18:23 #1668961Despite his win in the Turners, I still find Stage Star difficult to weigh up. He is prone to throw in a duff one though each time he has had excuses. His last two runs at Cheltenham have been excellent and the form reads well. Unexpected Party is 9 lb better off for 8 1/2l on their latest showing against each other (2-0 to SS). Datsalrightgino and Notlongtillmay don’t seem to be getting enough off Stage Star in my book, for their defeats last season though it was the novice season for each so improvement may reasonably be expected. Still early days, but other than the favourite, I like the look of the Skelton’s Galia Des Liteaux in receipt of 10lb from Stage Star at 14/1.
November 3, 2023 at 19:50 #1668984The Skelton horse is an interesting candidate Dactylographer
I’m not actually having a bet right now, but if there are no Ill effects from his fall here last week, then I would be interested in Mr Saxobeat at 40-1
Fugitif at 11-1 would be my more sensible looking call right now
November 4, 2023 at 01:02 #1669105Iv never taken to stage star either
Not sure he has much in hand off his mark
The turner’s was a very poor renewal and he was given a good ride on the pace in a slowly run race
November 6, 2023 at 16:42 #1669589I like the look of My Drogo for this. Wasn’t a bad comeback effort, would have needed it badly. If they have any chance of him running in the King George (the owners want to apparently) then he needs to be winning this off 151 I would have thought. Fine looking horse though!
November 12, 2023 at 13:55 #1670236The Real Whacker at 10-1 for me, and I’ve no concerns over this trip
November 12, 2023 at 16:46 #1670262I’m not mad keen on having a bet on this just now, but I would have a bet on Fugitif if he was still in there tomorrow
November 12, 2023 at 17:48 #1670275NOTLONGTILLMAY looked fantastic in the paddock when I was there last month, Ran well over 2 miles and should be spot on for this. He will do for me in a tough looking handicap, speculative EW at 14/1.
November 13, 2023 at 13:27 #1670359I’ve been a huge fan of Stage Star since he won the Challow nearly two years ago but I’ll be interested to see how a) this race cuts up and b) the weather holds up.
Goes well fresh, likes the course, trainer in form, no better jockey than Cobden around at the moment… he ticks all the boxes for me in this, but my only concern will be if it gets too soggy underfoot.
November 13, 2023 at 20:18 #1670403Venetia Williams’ runner is my selection here. Lightly raced, travels and jumps well, can race prominently, doesn’t mind getting his toe in, probably stays further than this, trainer in great form.
Easy As That 20-1 ew 4pl b365
