Always a very strong race this, and entries out…

I’ll definitely have an Antepost in this, but I’ve cooled on long term fancy, Fighter Allen, after more jumping errors yesterday. It’s his stablemate Stones and Roses who’d probably be my early #1, but for such competition from within the yard. His jumping was the problem in this last year, unseating when lobbing along nicely. His season fairly tailed off, but good to see him get an entry, and I reckon they might be back for some compensation. I’m confident he can sneak in here.
As much as I like him though, I’m not getting away from his stablemates, and great to see Carefully Selected in one piece. One time Gold Cup Hope of mine, though fitness could only be taken on trust. Haut En Couleurs very interesting off current mark, and he really has to be taken very seriously. He’d be my ideal type for this, off that mark, and I don’t see why he can’t come here from The John Durkan, where I think he could surprise a few people.
As Jack mentioned on the Welsh National thread, Mr Incredible is a very interesting recruit to the yard, while Captain Kangaroo is a horse to follow of mine this year, and already has a Cork National to his name. Could take in The Becher first though, but one to note if he comes here. Throw in Recite A Prayer, and Bleu Berry, who was ticking along nicely in his Novice campaign, before presumably meeting a setback, and you have a very strong team from the yard.
Haven’t even mentioned them all, but last but not least to get a shout is Ciel De Niege. Near the head of the weights, but I suspect he’s ahead of his mark, and shaped well over fences last year, and could be a lively one for JP, who’s got a stack of entries himself.
Ciel De Niege certainly my idea of JP’s main contender, but Early Doors is going to pop up soon, and old Champagne Platinum might just be the type to bounce back here, for all he disappointed in it last year.
Gigginstown obviously well represented, and I feel that one of their main hopes could be, again, Coko Beach. Surprised a few people in The Troytown, travelling really well, and for all that was a fair test, I got the impression he was looked after a wee bit. Promising run that, and should be more to come, and he’s my pick of the many Elliot contenders.
I’d be here all day, such is the strength of entry, but three others of note for me, and likely to be fair old prices are Foxy Jacks, Panda Boy, and Gallant John Joe. Think one of that trio will be backup bet, once I’ve landed on main bet
It might make sense to hold back once the race is marked up, but no doubt I’ll be back on here having buckled, and bet one of them.
November 30, 2022 at 11:15 #1625160Panda Boy is getting bet Vtc, and he was the one that I really liked after the last spin that he had
I’ve taken 16-1
I also think that Farclas travelled well on Sunday so I’ll watch him too, but only one bet for now
November 30, 2022 at 12:04 #1625164Sugar i missed the boat on Panda….i said while he ran out the back the other day…xmas chase handicap is his bag, now i’ve missed any price. mehhhhh

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 30, 2022 at 12:05 #162516516’s gone now Jeff, well done (just saw your post Jack, sorry). He was high on the list for me, but I was hoping for 33’s. Maybe not quite the dark horse for this as I thought. Jack I’m feeling the same right now
Market forming anyway…

…and despite that (far too long) shortlist of mine, I’m in the verge of betting Stones and Roses. Just waiting to see if I can top 40’s.
December 6, 2022 at 17:09 #1626064Stones and Roses out at the weekend, so had a bet now. Panda Boy was going to be next bet, but price has evaporated

December 14, 2022 at 13:48 #1626826I’ve added one more here with Enjoy D’Allen at 33-1
December 25, 2022 at 23:45 #1628108Still happy with Stones and Roses, but looking at backups has been more of a problem.
Fighter Allen was my long term hope, but as mentioned, he was really poor in The Troytown. It would grate though if he did win, so he’ll be bet, albeit win only.
Trying very hard not to take a third, but haven’t ruled out Gallant John Joe.

December 26, 2022 at 21:28 #1628363This is a cracking line up. I’ve decided to go with Gabbys Cross as the main bet at 20-1, with Recite A Prayer as backup at 25-1
December 27, 2022 at 08:12 #1628387I can’t recall having a runner placed in this never mind the winner.
Thinking along the same lines as VTC here in his OP. A big leap of faith needed on his fitness but Carefully Selected @ 25’s looks a big old price and 147 looks a bit weird also considering the high hopes they had for him early on.

December 27, 2022 at 11:46 #1628409I feel like I’ve been following Gallant John Joe forever (that second to Melon 3 years ago seems a distant memory). Always runs his race and has faced some stern competition on in all his 8 chases. Always fancied him for a trip like this, so I’m really looking forward to seeing him here.
December 27, 2022 at 12:03 #1628412Egality Mans for me and hope that the cheekpieces (and perhaps more aggressive tactics?) work the oracle for his jumping.
December 27, 2022 at 14:26 #1628452Two more for the whole card

Donkey YearsDecember 27, 2022 at 15:24 #1628473I hope the jockey of one of the first fallers (Donkey Years)? was ok. He looked to be flat on the ground. Hannon never updated us- don’t they have spotters to confirm who fell?
