Definitely an improved run second up which is all I had hoped for. I’d say he’s at least 5 lengths+ off his best still. Onwards and upwards from here. There must be thousands of racing fans hoping he can return to Longchamp for some vindication. That would be a highly celebrated moment indeed.
August 26, 2010 at 18:23 #314743Well, the Overdose comeback steps up a gear on Sunday as he bids for glory in the Group 2 Goldene Peitsche (Golden Whip) at Baden-Baden, the top sprint race in Germany. Overdose won this race 2 years ago, but this years renewal looks much tougher. The best German sprinters are on show, with the Mario Hofer pair of Smooth Operator and the Royston Ffrench ridden Mood Music probably the pick of the bunch. However, there is a very strong challenge from overseas, with no less than 6 foreign raiders taking their chance. As well as Overdose, France send two top performers in Amico Fritz and the former James Eustace trained War Artist. Tracey Collins send Rock Jock over from Ireland, whilst British interest lies with the Clive Cox trained Gilt Edge Girl and Willie Haggas’ Triple Impact.
Overdose is reunited with Christophe Soumillion (Gary Hind in at Bratislava on Sunday), and the Budapest Bullet is currently priced up at 3.2 (about 9-4) with Racebets.
August 26, 2010 at 18:38 #314744I’m away for to weeks with no imternet access, so it’ll be a while before I know how he got on. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for him, though.
August 29, 2010 at 11:50 #3150528/11 at the moment, War Artist a N/R.
Tempted to have a bet.
August 29, 2010 at 14:43 #315066Overdose playing up badly behind the stalls. Has thrown off CS twice already. Kicking out, hood is on…
August 29, 2010 at 14:50 #315067Jumped away ok, raced prominently, still on the bridle 2 furlongs out, found absolutely nothing when they quickened and faded quickly, not good.
August 29, 2010 at 14:58 #315068Didn’t look to be any excuses – dismal performance.
Now the unbeaten record has gone chances are that in future – should there be one – they will not be waiting around that long to get him in stalls.
August 29, 2010 at 15:31 #315070Glad i didnt have a bet on him, in the end.
August 29, 2010 at 18:18 #315087Well, my phone hasn’t stopped since the race, but unfortunately, everoyne seems to be giving me different reasons as to why Overdose lost! We know that’s not his real form, as he easily beat Contat in this race two years ago. He’s never played up that badly in the stalls before – infact, he threw Soumillon off so badly second time around that the jockey was actually injured, and had to give up the rest of his rides at the meeting. As for the race itself, Soumillon spoke to the press after the race and said that Overdose kept changing his legs throughout the race, and he wasn’t the same horse that he rode at Budapest last year. However, a vet checked Overdose out after the race and said that the horse was fine.
As for the race itself, well Amico Fritz was 5th in the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot, and with Overdose underperforming, he took his chance. Despite all that went on today though, I still haven’t lost faith in Overdose. I know people who were at Baden-Baden said that he just didn’t look himself today. It may have been a lack of fitness, it may have been that something upset or spooked him today, it may have been the change of stable. Who knows? Certainly, I hope this doesn’t put connections off running him in the Abbaye. He showed loads of early dash today, and I for one am keeping the faith!
