Our Conor has been sold to Barry Connell. He has been investing in a number of horses recently and this is his most significant. The only downside to this is that Bryan Cooper will almost certainly lose the ride. Danny Mullins is his retained jockey and while he is competent I don’t currently see him as a big race jockey and this must surely affect Our Conor’s chances in next years champion hurdle.
March 19, 2013 at 21:12 #433563Big shame, I hadn’t seen Bryan Cooper before last week and was mightily impressed by him, let’s hope he gets to ride other good horses.
March 19, 2013 at 21:35 #433567He must be very very rich.
March 19, 2013 at 21:38 #433568In summary before the sale the horse had a favourite’s chance of winning the Champion Hurdle and now he hasn’t got any.
March 20, 2013 at 04:42 #433584How about the yard for the new owner? Will Dessie still train him?

Because the colours on the jockey’s back will be different?

I’d sooner be the seller rather than the buyer.

If you like. The yellow in the silks will be the only similarity between the two jocks. Mullins is a complete waste of space. The horse’s career will almost certainly have hit reverse by the time the owner realises his mistake.

Was that the price ?!!
There’s only Sprinter Sacre or Bobs Worth who i wouldn’t sell for that price.

Bit harsh. Danny is a young, talented horseman with loads of promise. I wouldn’t write him off.
March 20, 2013 at 21:41 #433639Perhaps it could be arranged for Joseph to ride him?
March 20, 2013 at 22:05 #433646Danny Mullins isn’t a bad rider (season stats 15 wins from 157 rides), but he still lacks experience in big races. He isn’t the person you want riding for you in grade 1’s at this stage of his career and given the small 4-5 runner fields that is typical for the Irish hurdle G1 he is not going to get the type of experience that is needed for the champion hurdle.

Well… If you compare it to Joseph O’ Brien on the flat who, up to the end of last season, had a total of 81 rides. Yet in those 81 rides he managed to win a Derby, Guineas, BC Turf, Queen Elizabeth, Irish Derby etc. I know he’s had machines of horses and has been exposed to a higher concentration of big races but that doesn’t take from the fact that he hasn’t achieved what he has done. Danny hasn’t had the opportunities that Joseph has had but maybe Our Conor is the horse that will crack the nut for him.

Think you may be forgetting all his rides in Ireland during the year. 81 is probably is rides in the UK only
March 21, 2013 at 18:49 #433719Yep. Sorry you’re right there. Still, fairly inexperienced for the success he’s had. Largely down to the horse’s he’s gotten.
Our Conor looks to be a horse of a different class. Danny has a year to get to know him. By the time Cheltenham comes around next year I’d expect the pair to be right up there for Champion Hurdle glory. Feel sorry for Cooper.
March 21, 2013 at 22:27 #433737My prediction is that Our Conor will have a sparkling novice campaign, followed by a good season, and that will be it’s zenith.
March 22, 2013 at 14:30 #433773Is young Mullins first jockey to the all powerfull Willie Mullins yard?I didn’t think so.Pity.Think of all the winning rides he would get if only his family appreciated him as much as you know who!!!! Ruby and Townend would have to seek work someplace else just like Murtagh.
