Things have certainly improved but could BHA explain why UK racing still has not attained any consistency in the going data provided?
Today, Newmarket has a going map provided.
Newbury a course of similar standing has not and never does. Nor does Ayr.Bangor, good for them, is one of the few NH smaller tracks always to provide a going map.
Ayr along with Ascot and York now provide 3 sets of readings where there may be a draw bias in the straight. Good for them.
Newmarket Rowley which has a very contentious history of draw biases ruining races does not.Several courses now give information on the change in race distance as well as rail movements and watering. Why not all?
Where is the consistency of information?
Has no one at BHA ever noticed this inconsistency and tried to remedy it?Courses are paid more than enough from the levy to provide all this key information and to a consistently high standard. When can we expect it to happen?

Perhaps covering the exorbitant salaries of Paul Roy and Nic Coward, and topping up the BHA pension pot – which is, I’m sure you’ll agree, far more important – has left some courses short.
More likely though that the BHA just don’t give a toss.
September 18, 2010 at 12:55 #318093Courses make money from entry fees, food, weddings, computer fayres, conferences and the like. The minimum expectation should be to provide good quality, enjoyable racing with accurate information on the odd day that they race
September 18, 2010 at 13:09 #318095How accurate are the going maps in the first place? I wouldn’t rate them that highly for what they could provide. No mention of how many readings, where on the course the readings were taken.

That stick reading at Newmarket today didnt look right
September 19, 2010 at 10:44 #318217Going should be assessed by an independent third party, to an
agreed standard,
should be financed by racecourses and should be a pre-recquite to a course obtaining fixtures.
I’m sure (well, I’m not sure but I’m guessing here, stick with me) there are BHA reps in attendance (safety inspectors for example) at each meeting who could be trained to carry out these assessments.
Or the official handicapper that is in attendance.
Or sub it out to a third party (e.g. Timeform) who could train their people to do it.
