I spent a few days in Alnmouth last year and walked to Amble via Warkworth. Very nice too: those Northumberland beaches are spectacular. The hermitage in Warkworth might be worth visiting by boat but from the path on the opposite bank was rather underwhelming; though a lovely woodland walk to get there
Just googled Sharpenhoe Clappers (great name) and it looks well worth a visit. I feel I’m well-travelled in Blighty but there remains so much else to see and absorb. At least the countryside of this increasingly septic isle remains sceptered
As for towns in Bedfordshire, I found Harpenden and Hitchin to be pleasant enough, Bedford and Luton grim
I would describe myself as asocial, certainly not antisocial, and not particularly unsocial
Common courtesy, always a smile; two’s company, three’s a crowd; the tranquility of solitude
November 30, 2021 at 11:36 #1569974I just thought the hermitage was just a glorified cave but it’s beautiful, and very spiritual. They have a wonderful arts festival in Alnmouth each year ( sadly not during the pandemic), and it’s great being able to go into all the lovely houses for a coffee ( I’m so nosy). It has the oldest 9 hole golf course in the country, I believe. Walking with is one of those happy accident programmes that is a direct result of the pandemic but I hope will continue. We’ve finally managed to find someone to repair our roof. The insurance company said we had to get two quotes and we had to explain to them that it’s like a war zone up here and every roofer is busy repairing rooves and chimneys and no one has time to go round giving quotes. I’m full of admiration for the people working tirelessly to get everyone’s power and water back.
