*DING DING* The bell has sounded, ROUND TWO is underway…..
Round Two, 2000 Guineas 2016 £10e/w@33/1
Round Two, Coventry/Guineas double £10@80/1
Both with Bet365 (my bad in the last post, thought it was Laddies).
May 22, 2015 at 10:28 #1055897Interesting drop back to 5f in the Marble Hill. If he loses this season it’ll be tomorrow, but that’s of little significance. From there it’ll be Coventry-National-Dewhurst

Oh Jim you old saucepot, you know how to train them.
May 22, 2015 at 17:26 #1058451So I’m no Joni when it comes to all this flat malarkey, nor would I ever claim to be. I will throw in my two pennies’ worth for bants though and I will give it a good go. Year in year out I say this and sometimes I’ll even land a fair punt. Often enough though the speculative angle I take on the level will find me out, but heck it doesn’t stop me trying

One angle I always take is that when the Ballydoyle boys don’t seem to know which is the best of their bunch they don’t tend to have much up their sleeve. In saying that the strength in depth is obviously there, it’s the ‘best they’ve ever trained’ that they’re lacking. JFK being turned over Sunday left a gaping hole at the head of the Derby market, a hole they’re hardly tripping over themselves to fill
Let’s jump to the land of left-field…..The Craven meeting’s always an interesting pipe opener for the season and often throws up a few clues in the process (besides the obvious in the Classic trials
). I’ve dipped my toe in and found an interesting sort in Storm The Stars for the Derby. His debut saw him just pipped by a race ready O’Brien horse who consequently finished 2nd in the RP Trophy. It’s perhaps disappointing that he didn’t follow that up by getting his nose in front, but another 2nd saw him put away for the season. He must have done something right over the winter as he’s gained a Derby entry at the latest stage, and we all know that Haggas runners in the Derby are about as common as haggis curry in Derby.
It’s all speculating to accumulate as per but if he’s anything then, being another Sea The Stars, his transition from 2 to 3 should see him blossom. I’ve taken 100/1 with Stan James on the off chance and look forward to seeing him run tomorrow.
Can’t complain with my 100/1 for this lad. All I’m after at that price is a run for my money and that’s looking pretty 50-50 after the trainer’s comments. He did look inexperienced when out in front and wandered a fair bit, something unusual for one with a fair few runs under his belt (relatively speaking).
Fingers crossed anyway, all I want is a run!

There seems confidence in Washington DC today Boz. He looked a sharp sort last time and may take a bit of catching today. If Round Two can win here, he’ll be pretty smart.
Both colts have a rating of 90 from the Racing Post and they are very similar in actual age, both March foals. I was looking at Washington DC last night at 9/4 as the bet, if I was still a betting man, the 5f form and perhaps slightly more street wise may give him the edge today and provide some prize money for first season sire Zoffany, who was/is odds on to be leading first season sire this year from Canford Cliffs with the bookies.
Good luck today and long term with Round Two. Ding-ding seconds out!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 23, 2015 at 19:12 #1063633Ladies and gentlemen, the 2016 2000 Guineas winner……
May 23, 2015 at 21:35 #1063657Nice performance from Round Two dropping back in trip today. Jim Bolger reckons he’s the most straight-forward horse he’s trained and seems to think he’s as good as he has had.
Dawn Approach was one of those rare 2yo horses who burned brightly at 2yo and backed it up at 3yo as well. This fellow looks a similar type and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few trainers re-arranging their plans for the Coventry after watching Round Two today.
12/1 for the Guineas looks silly at this stage though. Plenty still to make their appearances and this year was a masterclass in promising sorts failing to even run in, far less win, Guineas or Derby. 14/1 for the Coventry was the bet to have been on and he’ll be hard to beat there, I wouldn’t put anyone off taking the 7/2.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 23, 2015 at 22:06 #1063659STEVE I understand your CAUTION but fear not. This lad has Guineas winner stamped all over him. He oozed class today in what looked no egg and spoon race over a trip that shouldn’t have necessarily suited. He had the speed for the minimum trip with minimal fuss and stepping up will bring out further improvement.
What almost excites me more than anything is just how excited Jim is. He’s not a man to start singing about a slag and the fact he’s shouting from the rooftops about this fella tells me that, along with what I’ve seen, there’s MUCH more to come.
May 24, 2015 at 11:21 #1064718Boz i reply to your post in my thread looks like we both agree on 2000 guineas winner next year.

Tis true Darren we do. We both know a good un when we see it and in Round Two we have a star of the future.
I’ve kept topping up on my original bets for next year’s Guineas @14s with Bet365. Paddy’s 16s isn’t available to me because of my *gulp* lifetime ban
May 25, 2015 at 17:31 #1069267Well Paddy’s 16s didn’t last long, slashed to 9s now. Good job my old friend Mr. Winstone and his motley crew are still laying me 14s
They surely can’t stand that for much longer though, if people haven’t noticed yet this lad’s a bigger certainty than British winter!
June 1, 2015 at 20:30 #1090007Juicy form boost for my lad today as Argentero tore Naas apart. He couldn’t even give my lad a workout. No bigger than 10s now, the world is cottoning on
June 6, 2015 at 16:33 #1095963Well well well what can we say about that
speculative 100/1 each-way punt at the top of the year and he’s ended up finishing a decent third behind two pretty smart looking types. Chuffed with that, happy days!

LANDOFHOPEANDGLORYGood to see you’re getting stuck in early Darren
It’s very difficult to say at this stage for Epsom however, as with Guineas prospects one or two of the more precocious types have already given us a sample as to their talents. By their very nature Derby horses don’t show their colours until much later.I must say though, I am looking forward to that Galileo half-brother to one of my all time favourite flat horses Harbinger
June 16, 2015 at 19:34 #1105893You know it’s a funny old thing, form. Round Two flops and Buratino bolts in, therefore enhancing the claims of Steady Pace and throwing out Washington DC. Just a couple of hours later however, the whole picture is turned on its head. No one had any hiding places or excuses out there, although one clearly ran below form.
Right off Round Two at your peril. What we saw today was not his true running. 25/1 is still freely available for next years Guineas winner, I’m not swaying…..
June 17, 2015 at 10:36 #1105971Had a right royal mare yesterday, but day two looks a day to turn it round.
I’m a massive fan of Anthem Alexander and will be all over her for the Commonwealth on Friday. I’m of the thought she’ll have progressed more than the likes of Tiggy Wiggy, Limato and the Yankee doodle steroid poodle
Accordingly, I’m hoping TOSCANINI can do her form a favour in the first and make him a booting each-way shout at 16/1. I’m on.In the Queen Mary I took a line I don’t normally use and just went off the Wesley Ward hype without any form to justify it. The way he spoke about ACAPULCO made her seem the real deal for this. I took 6/1 yesterday.
In the Royal Hunt Cup I’m siding with YOU’RE FIRED, whose York form recently looks red hot. He’s well weighted, has a plum draw and acts well on the bouncy ground, something which we saw yesterday is off massive importance in these conditions. I’ve also had a small each-way tickle on LAMAR who could go well.
In the last I like JELLICLE BALL as a filly with plenty of progression in her. She’s not shown her true colours yet this season, although hindsight’s shown that her 3rd behind Lady Of Dubai last time may not have been as bad as first appeared. It’s time she stepped forward now though and she has the right man on board. Good bet at 11/1.
Best of luck with day two everyone
June 17, 2015 at 11:12 #1105984All in on Anthem Alexander for Friday. This is THE group one sprinter in the field and certainly the one with most progression in her. 8/1 will look very silly when all is said and done……
