I expect Wraith will win a poor race in an evening meeting sometime this summer with J. Quinn or R. Winston on board.
The definition of "riding a finish" seems impossible to agree. This became clear on previous threads about the purpose and use of the whip.
My own view is that many of the most-animated rides are wasted on losers. Few top jockeys bother wasting effort when they can’t win a race. There’s always another day, though ’tis galling, I know, if you’ve backed one that appears to get an "easy".
However, as the instigator of this thread ( which seems to be one of many on a similar subject), has stated elsewhere that people like me shouldn’t be allowed near horses at all, you can probably disregard this post.
April 29, 2008 at 11:08 #160560MP,
You are the biggest pocket talker in the history of this forum.

I put up figures for odds on because you commented about Mr Durcans poor record on short priced horses. Your argument based on the shortest priced horses of all…ie odds on, holds no water whatsoever.
You want to move the goalposts to 7/4 now? I have the figures but I cant be bothered, you took zero notice the last time.
Back what you like, it’s your money. In addition to there being absolutely no evidence in either the horses Turf performance or pedigree to suggest Wraith needs in excess of 1m 4f to win a decent race I will say if you continue to blame any jockey for getting beaten on a 75 rated handicapper, conceding 19lbs to unraced and unexposed horses from big Newmarket yards in maiden races based on moderate form achieved on a different surface at a track with a completely different set of bias’s, there is only one way it will end up.
Of course that’s only my opinion and your entitled to yours. It does come across as being unnecessarily insulting at times. Thats all, enjoy your afternoon.
April 29, 2008 at 18:00 #160633Have I missed something? I don’t readily recall insulting anybody on here?
Calling someone "brainless" and "totally braindead" isn’t insulting?
I haven’t moved any goalposts – you did put up Durcan’s record on odds on shots. You put this up to dispel my gut feeling that he was always getting beat on them. I accepted this and pointed to my personal experience of backing some odds on shots he had ridden as having shaped my view.
Despite having facts to the contrary your still making an issue of it days later.
You are quite right it is all about opnions. I don’t deny I have had financial interests in the horses he has ridden which I feel he should have won on However I have at least 5 bets a day and sometimes as many as 20 (if I have to chase!). About 35% of my bets win, so if the posters on here were right, I would be posting at least 3 times a day slagging jockeys – which I dont.
You’re clearly on top of the game then, the know all attitude in some of your postings suggests otherwise. Having read the forum since 2003 I havent read a poster who is "slagging jockeys" as much as you are.
I presume based on your clearly detailed and confident prediction of the race’s outcome (I presume it was a prediction) you filled your boots laying Wraith and put him up as such on the "Lays and Plays" section of the forum????
None of your business, and completely away from the thrust of your first post on this thread.
I never come onto the forum to get into arguments like this, don’t know what it is about your style that totally winds me up but it does. Guess I’ll just have to ignore your postings from now on. Pity that.
April 30, 2008 at 12:34 #160744I don’t see why MP is getting all this hassle. I don’t agree with the posters opinion on this matter but hey everyone is entitled to give an opinion whether its slating a jockey or not.
I’ve been on many forums in my time but I’ve never known one like this one for cliquey bitchiness, there are a number of members on here that are so caught up in their own self indulgent little worlds that they cannot accept a differing point of view without having to argue or dig about it. You have to post what some members want you to post or thats it.
I wouldn’t mind but I expect most if not all are over 18 years old and really should be far, far more mature and just debate a point without getting personal and / or confrontational.
MP I take your point about Wraith maybe being best making the running. I don’t think Durcan gave him a bad ride the other day but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him try and front run next time maybe over an extreme trip. Whilst the horses pedigree doesn’t neccessarily indicate he needs an extreme trip Wraiths best run is over the furthest distance its ran and there may not be many other choices with this horse.
April 30, 2008 at 13:09 #160747Have to agree with Flash here. Quite uncomfortable reading and MP only put their opinion forward which is what a forum is about isn’t it?
I don’t like confrontation etc so don’t start on me haha.April 30, 2008 at 15:23 #160783MP,
You seem convinced that I (or this supposed clique I’m in with someone I’ve never met) are inventing your anti-jockey posts.

If it’s ‘cliquey’ not to want to see this forum turned into anyone’s diary of their personal betting disasters, count me in too.
This forum is what it is basically because of its sensible and informed discussion of horseracing matters, and the nearer we get to the ‘betfair-esque’, the farther it will get from its original purpose.
Like AP, I took a quick look at MP’s recent contributions, and of 9 new threads he’s started in the past 2 weeks, 6 of them began by complaining about jockeys or trainers.
April 30, 2008 at 17:39 #160802I know even I thought that was a little harsh, a 5’9 leggy blonde with a 36C inch chest & I’m male !!!!!!!!!!!

They are all bang out of order MP. You and I should discuss just how much over dinner and a show.
April 30, 2008 at 17:42 #160803MycenenanPrincess,
How long have you been dressing-up in womens clothing?

Pretty fair summation.

I dont mean to appear intrusive but have you been partying with Ronaldo lately per chance?

Now I’ve discovered that you can count on my support all the more.
May 1, 2008 at 00:15 #160881I’ve been on many forums in my time but I’ve never known one like this one for cliquey bitchiness,
And with that the accusations of cliqueism are proffered once more. Now, as previously, I’m loathe to give them too much credence.
The sheer size of the TRF site, the large number of active posters, and the multifarious threads on the go at any one time, all serve to guarantee that no one small group of posters could act as arbiters or controllers of everyone else’s thoughts even if they wanted to…. and frankly, I very much doubt that any of the posters most often accused of being “cliquey” have any such intentions of so doing.
When all is said and done, there are only so many different positions that can be taken on any given racing issue. Logically, certain people are going to gravitate towards one, others towards another, and so on. I’d regard that rather less as cliqueism and rather more as examples of consensus.
I’m not the greatest fan of threads that descend into insult, but any notion that threads such as this Ted Durcan one have become either more prevalent or more vicious in recent times is simply not borne out by a recollection of any of TRF’s many spats of yore – EC versus Stav, Dungheap versus Beaker, Ian Davies versus several people, and so on.
Recent arrivals to TRF may wish to have a look at this thread from a couple of years ago;
https://theracingforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12688&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
A number of the posts have been deleted and there’s rogue punctuation and formatting all over the place as it pre-dates the data conversion onto this new and improved forum layout, but the arguments can still be followed closely enough. I’ve seen nothing on TRF lately that rivals threads such as this one for sheer fight-from-nothing malevolence and blackness, so I’d suggest that rumours of this website’s descent into “cliquey bitchiness” remain a touch exaggerated.

Feckin hell, calling her a "he" now, I thought the name give the game away!

Can we then presume that ‘our’ Kauto Star is a gelding?
May 1, 2008 at 11:33 #160909So, people have a problem with someone who repeatedly starts threads criticising jockeys; fair enough.
But, to the same people have an issue with someone who repeatedly starts threads on a horse that they own? Probably not..
