Thanks VTC, I nearly had the tricast in the Greatwood hurdle put the winner in the correct position but had the runner up and third in the wrong place. Should of done combination but didn’t expect to get near and only done it as I always pop into Ladbrokes on the way to get the neighbours paper and read the Racing post for free instead of buying one so donate a £1.00 by way of a tricast. Anyway to cut the long story short after I got so close I checked what the pay out was and the trifecta was over £317 to the £207 that the tricast paid which seemed quite big. Is this the norm or do they vary?

November 16, 2014 at 19:35 #495508That’s a sore one Nathan, gutted for you.
For midweek, run of the mill fare, I’ve tried to watch for any trends which would sway me towards Tricast or Trifecta, but I’ve found it increasingly hard to second guess.
For big field handicaps like The Greatwood, and especially at the big weekend meetings, then it would be a Trifecta every time.
Last summer though, I was nearly victim of a big difference between "winnings"……in the Summer Plate at Uttoxeter, I did
Helpston, Galaxy Rock, Pure Faith, Lost Glory
50p Combination Exactas, Trifectasand one horse, think it was Storm Survivor split 3 of them for the Trifecta, I was gutted. However, when I checked the returns, my trifecta would have been only £942, whereas, the tricast paid £3485. Perversely, I was glad it didn’t come up, as that would have been a hard one to take, so I’m always worried no matter what route I take.
I hope that makes sense too
November 16, 2014 at 21:48 #495530Looks like I owe you another drink VtC And then Liam goes and wins another long distance handicap. I don’t think anyone rides those sort of races better than him and when he, surprisingly, made the running it was obvious they expected to win. When will I ever learn?
November 16, 2014 at 23:40 #495541A bottle of Jack Daniels would be smashing moe I thought she ran a decent race, and for a while thought she might land it, was certainly trading low enough on BF.
I did bet him today moe, but only for a few quid, it was nice to catch him, but sadly a couple of other losers elsewhere impacted on the profit. I had actually considered making him my only bet of the day…………when will
I
learn
November 21, 2014 at 17:57 #495942Trying not to back Double Ross and Medermit tomorrow. Will Medermit’s handicap mark come down by running in these races? Or is he in them for place money [or to win?].
November 22, 2014 at 09:42 #496019A "no bet" race for me moe, but I’d love nothing more than either of them, and Menorah, to fight it out.
It won’t do Medermit any good continually running well, without winning, in these big races, and if you look at what he’s did since the spring of 2012, nearly three years ago, then he really needs a bit of assistance from the handicapper. A real trier, and I’d love to see him land a big one soon. I think though, that they honestly got enough left to land one of these, rather than just for the place money.
As I said to you before, Double Ross was a real money spinner for me last year, and I was equally delighted and horrified when it looked as if he was going to land The Charlie Hall………without my cash I think The Ryanair is the logical race for him this season, but running here after Wetherby, suggests they think that he can handle this trip.
November 22, 2014 at 12:01 #496056Haydock
1210 – Zafranagar, De Boitron
1245 – Wellforth, Emperors Choice
1315 – Yesyoucan, Lyvius
1535 – Midnight Appeal, Renard
£1 Reverse ExactasOf those I particularly like
Wellforth
, and
Yesyoucan
. Took the 14’s for Wellforth last night, off the back of a pleasing comeback at Ayr over hurdles. I had him here at 50’s last year, and he went close to landing a big win for me, but in the end had to settle for place money. No world beater, but I tend to keep on his side most of the time. If the ground was slightly faster, Lyvius would be the main bet in the 1315, but in these conditions, Yesyoucan at 25’s is too big to resist.
Fixed Brush Hurdle
I’ve bet
Sybarite
, and
Aubusson
in this. Sybarite looks back to something near his best, and he’s always a horse I liked. I’m hoping he goes close in this to set up a crack at The Welsh National. His last win was really impressive. Aubusson won’t mind the conditions, and the jockey, who knows the horse well, takes a handy few lbs off. I’ll add
Trustan Times
to my exactas, and trifectas. Slightly poor comeback at Wetherby, but I’m hoping his seasons geared towards Aintree, and I’ve chucked a few quid at him for that. Previous winner of this in the soft, and if that opening run has brought him on then he looks a shade overpriced…….I’ll no doubt end up betting him as well.

November 22, 2014 at 12:46 #496063I mised TML this morning but Mike tells me that STD tipped Sybaryte. We’ve decided to give Cheltenham a miss this year; with all the building going on there it will be chaotic. Will probably feel sick as a pig not being there on the Tuesday morning watching the horses unload; then again each year I get the ‘it was only five minutes ago I was here; where did the last year go’ feeling which I could do without. Having saved money on that I might treat myself to an internet betting account for a short time
November 23, 2014 at 11:33 #496210Moe, I’ve still no plans to go, but if I did, it would be on the Tuesday. I hope you don’t miss is too much……a few winners from Liam (I had Fingers Crossed during the week, but just couldn’t bet Ruby Valentine ) and your internet account will pay for itself.
Sybarite ran poorly for most of the way yesterday. I didn’t notice because I was too busy shouting Aubusson home, but he he actually ran on to be 6th……….wouldn’t be betting him if I had the choice now, but still hold out hope they might still target Chepstow with him.
November 23, 2014 at 19:40 #496246I know NTD has always liked Sybarite and is finally repaying some of that faith after a very tumultuous career so far. I don’t think Haydock paid to his strengths yesterday but proved he is a stayer in the making. I believe the horse belongs over fences and could see him as a Welsh National type, maybe in a few years. He likes soft ground but just a case if he can do it in such a tough race. TD has some excellent stayers in his yard with Splash of Ginge looking a potential National horse too.
November 23, 2014 at 23:52 #496280Hi Rich,
yeah, maybe not this year for Sybarite, but I was encouraged by the way he kept on yesterday anyway. Hopefully he, or TDC will take their chance anyway.
Splash Of Ginge has been quite impressive so far, and I think it’s the long term hope of the owners if I recall right.
December 1, 2014 at 11:11 #497071Well done with Hey Big Spender/Lie Forrit, Venture…
Lovely horse that Hey Big Spender, I like the way the jockey took him back at about half way because he was travelling and out jumping everything, he would of been in the lead way too early so the young jockey done well to reign him in and even when he did take the lead it was more of the horse being too good rather than the jockey making the decision and boy doesn’t he just love it around Newcastle.Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 1, 2014 at 11:30 #497075Good to see Lie Forrit running good races again [one of Lydia’s favourite horses].
December 1, 2014 at 14:42 #497092Thanks Nathan, was chuffed to bits with that on Saturday, and couldn’t believe I could get the 12’s as well. Always happy to see the old boys roll back the years, and a nice ride too. It’s a shame injury struck him at his peak, as I think they thought of him as a Gold Cup type at one stage. Hopefully he can land another before the season’s out.
December 1, 2014 at 14:44 #497093I’ve a real soft spot for him moe, and like Hey Big Spender, it’s great to see him still running big races. I seen him up at the stables a few weeks back, and he was looking in great nick.
December 11, 2014 at 12:26 #498099Kidney stones are not nice Vtc.

December 11, 2014 at 13:21 #498107Thanks Nathan, never experienced pain like it…………..I ended up passing them myself, but I was full of so much Morphine and Tramadol that I didn’t feel too much. It wasn’t pretty
Should I say to Moe and Trip? Hopefully they’ll be alright with it
