Was coming on to say how chuffed I was today with Coko Beach, and Flight Deck, more than paying their way, and I was going to go on to say that the race will have teed things up nicely for School Boy Hours and Leopardstown.

Sadly not to be, and just read that he died after the race. Smashing horse, and though I really got one proper payday from him, I enjoyed following him, and had a real soft spot for him.

As for Comfort Zone, not much point keeping tabs on him after that. Awesome performance, and on that showing, he’s going to be smart.

Seems pointless putting up a selection after hearing about School Boy, but Tralee Hills is out at Kempton, and having swerved him last time after his Nottingham flop, I couldn’t let the 25’s go. Non Runner

Sat this week out after the Non Runner on Monday, as I knew it was a big weekend ahead.

Really wanted to bet a few at Thurles yesterday, but gave it a miss, as just looked a bit risky. Good seasonal reappearance from Escaria Ten, and I’m hoping it’ll be Gowran, rather than Chepstow for him. As I said last year though, I think he looks ripe for The Cross Country.

Back to Saturday, and though this is traditionally one of the best weekends of the year, it’s surpassed itself this year, with very decent racing.

I’ve got so many on the shortlist for tomorrow, don’t know where to begin. Can’t possibly bet them all.

    Aintree
Incredible card, and the best renewal of The Becher Chase since it’s inception.

I’m with Gesskile and Didero Vallis Antepost, and might have to leave it at that, such is the strength of the race.

I’m swaying towards Percussion as a third choice, but I’ll have to be in running if anything. Big EW return for me in Grand Sefton, so I can afford to lose a few points on him.

Problem I have is that I also like Cloth Cap, Domaine De L’Isle, Hill Sixteen, and one of my main notebook horses this season, Captain Kangaroo. Some race.

In The Many Clouds, I’m hoping for a big run for Noble Yeats. Bet him for King George and Gold Cup, and I’m hoping he can justify that. My old pal Dashel Drasher in there, and he’s not to be underestimated.

In the later races, I give serious chances to Wishing and Hoping, Empire Steel, Herbiers and Benson. Already bet Herbiers, and I’ll definitely be betting Wishing and Hoping

    Chepstow
I’m with Time To Get Up Antepost for The Welsh National trial, but only a small bet, and in such a busy day, no choice to but to lay that stake back. I’d rather bet him for the big one if he makes it on the day. Smashing horse, but usually needs a run

FairyhouseHad to sit meeting out, though Kildorerry and The Flying Scotsman appeal a lot. Definitely considering in running

    Sandown
No choice but to leave Homme Public as he’s too short on a mad busy day, but I think he’ll go close. Midnightreflection looks overpriced in the 1310.

My two bets are Funambule Sivola and Gwencily Berbas. Both got work cut out, but could surprise.

A lot will depend on earlier races tomorrow, but couldn’t rule out adding those not listed below. Main problem is number of selections, and would be insane to bet them all. I’ll see how the day goes.

Goes without saying I’ll be clawing back stakes wherever I can

Becher – Didero Vallis 33’s EW
    Becher – Gesskile 16’s
Many Clouds – Noble Yeats 7’s
Tingle Creek – Funambule Sivola 25’s EW
London National – Gwencily Berbas 25’s EW
1440 Aintree- Wishing and Hoping EW
    1515 Aintree – Herbiers 9’s

What a day, and absolutely delighted with Noble Yeats. I was fairly confident, but that was even better than expected. Dreaming of King George and Gold Cup bid now, and though not a definite for Kempton, I’m hopeful. Laid stakes back in both races to go Green, and managed to add a couple in those races off the back of that. Went like clockwork and Dashel Drasher finishing second the icing on the cake.

Noble Yeats obviously a target horse of mine this season, and Banbridge definitely another, though as I’ve mentioned it was always supposed to be the NH Chase. He’s been even better than I anticipated, and having bet him for both Turners and Arkle, I’m hoping he goes well in a red hot Drinmore. Thedevilscoachman also in there too, and though he’s drifting, I’m more likely to be interested in betting him, as no need to at the prices with Banbridge.

Becher went great, and having the 16’s meant I was able to get a good profit on Gesskile in running (again), and the only downside is that I didn’t bet Cloth Cap. Would’ve got a smashing lay as well.

Wishing and Hoping yet again paid his way, and a nice profit.

Herbiers was a bit flat, but other than that, a very good Aintree for me.

Sandown selections were less impressive, and I was quietly confident the pair of them were going to outrun their odds.

Another cracking days racing, and most covered in Big Races.

I mentioned Comfort Zone as an interesting one a couple of weeks back, but he was miles better than I expected, and looking forward to seeing more from him today. Long term, also interesting to see how Common Practice, and especially Polo Lounge get on today. At Huntingdon, hopefully Father of Jazz will run, after swerving Cheltenham, and I reckon he could be a very good recruit for them.

    1155 Fairyhouse – Kitty Galore 25’s EW 4pls
    Porterstown – The Dabbler 8’s
Borders National – Fiveaftermidnight 33’s EW
Borders National – The Ferry Master 17-2
Hatton’s Grace – Sire Du Berlais 80’s EW
    Peterborough Chase – Allmankind 9’s

    Happy enough today.

Borders National went well enough, with a nice profit from Fiveaftermidnight in running, though disappointing that she didn’t see it out. As long as she’s continually overlooked I’ll be happy. As per race thread, always the plan to cover the other Sandy Thomson runners in running, and a return too from Flower of Scotland. Only a modest return obviously given The Ferry Master being main hope, and that gamble on the winner, but never going to let one of his runners win this race without some sort of return.

Good EW’s from Kitty Galore and Man O Work too.

Now the bad. Both The Dabbler and Allmankind were looking beat after a furlong, and were terrible selections. I was very keen on Allmankind, but he looks gone, though I’ll keep an eye on him for the spring should they persevere with him.

Happy to play tomorrow after that weekend, and the opening 7’s for Echo Watt was far too big on last run.

I’m glad we didn’t get early bird tickets for the Borders National. It must have been freezing there. Annoyed that I didn’t back the Phil Kirby winner at Kelso because I always back his horses but I was too focussed on cheering home Adam’s Economic Editor who we see training on the beach sometimes and I wasn’t going to bet against him. He’s doing so well with what he’s got.

Oh, and I followed you with bets on Noble Yeats for the KG and GC. Even so I wasn’t prepared for how he finished that race. I think he’s a bit of a freak. Whaley Cohen senior knows what’s what when it comes to buying horses. Aubis Walk should have won today: she’s from Long Run’s family. Typical when I have a very rare win only bet.

Good stuff Moe. The penny dropped for me a couple of months back with him, and I decided he was a Gold Cup horse.

Saturday was a huge win for me, but if this goes the same way as my usual big Gold Cup shouts, he’ll win the 2024 renewal

Remarkable finish by Noble Yeats, VtC. You have a peach of a bet there, going forward. Not sure what effect the (illegal) whip use had on the horse? Were the others slowing down, thus creating a false perception?

Thanks, I was bloody delighted with him. I’m no sure the whip made that much of a difference, as I think he was good to go at any stage, though I do agree that the finishing burst in hindsight, alters depending on perspective. I was, and still am, very happy though, and one to look forward to.

You do realise that the day you don’t back Easysland will be the day he wins!

Yeah, absolutely Moe, but I’ll handle that if it happens, as he’s not really one I’d normally follow.

I just thought he showed a lot more last time, and was worth mentioning, as he was definitely a proper forgotten horse.

Wee tidy up of the other two posts before I delete them.

Cashed out most of my Cheltenham bets.

Banbridge, Easysland, Samcro, Beauport (small loss), and Three Card Brag all cashed out.

Made sense as they were all around the same price just now, and in the case of Easysland and Samcro, it made perfect sense just now. Banbridge obviously big horse for me this season, but having bet for two races, when he’s same price for both, was just plain mad.

Jungle Boogie, Gold Cup, the one I can’t get rid of just now.

Bar a few EW top ups here and there, no bets for three weeks, and enjoyed the break.

Last bet, Echo Watt went well, and she gave him every chance, and he went very low, getting me a nice profit in running.

On to today, and obviously a huge racing day.

In a great position on The King George thanks to Noble Yeats, and pleased to have two running, though in the case of Royal Pagaille, you’re always waiting for a late, ground related withdrawal. I think Frodon should give me a decent run for my money. Happy though being in profit before the off.

Smashing racing at Leopardstown this week, and main interest today is Midnight Run.

Excellent renewal of The Rowland Meyrick. Swaying towards adding Aye Right over Windsor Avenue, however still mulling that over, and only one I’m definitely betting is Top Ville Ben

Elsewhere, I’m with two in Lincolnshire National, with Achille and Small Present. Bet both early, and both looked too big, though I didn’t expect Small Present to get backed like he has.

Last year was first time I’d really followed Jepeck, and he gave me some fun. He showed enough on comeback, and sticking with him

Other interesting runners today include Hunting Brook at Fontwell, who I like long term, McFabulous, who I really like for King George next year, and my old pal The Storyteller. Hopefully see a decent run from Father of Jazz at Kempton

Just love Frodon, and he paid his way yet again. Smashing sight out in front, and I’d love to him to bag one more sun. Royal Pagaille didn’t get me anything back, but smashing run from him. Happy with the how the betting went with this, right from Noble Yeats, and meant it was easier to take the 2, 3

Good day all round, with decent EW’s from Aye Right, Top Ville Ben, and Small Present, all at the big odds.

Today focusses around The Welsh National and Paddy Power Chase. Not to mention the now annual shout of “why are these races going off within ten minutes of each other”

Been very careful with The Welsh National this year, given my record in it. Screaming Colours was a small loser Antepost, and I’ll stick with Time To Get Up. The best two horses in the race (at their best) are The Big Dog, and Time To Get Up. At the odds I went with the O’Neil horse. Poor here in The Trial, but he’s usually better for his first run.

As is always the case, quality wise, The Paddy Power Chase blows away The Welsh National. Its another fabulous renewal, and though I’m topping up early fancy at the entries, Stones and Roses, Fighter Allen, my long term hope, is now the definite main fancy. If all good after Navan, he’s crazily overpriced. Some field though.

At Kempton, I’ve had an early start on Midnightreflection, but reckon I can best the 25’s. She looks to be on the downgrade, but she hasn’t half been given a chance by the handicapper.

In The Desert Orchid, I’m close to adding either Editeur Du Gite or Funambule Sivola EW, but I can’t be betting them both. Preference is for Editeur Du Gite, who I bet for The Champion Chase last year. Edwardstone I thought was brilliant in The Tingle Creek. Faivoir also catches the eye later, but I’d need some earlier luck.

The one I have bet is Smarty Wild. He’s up against a real favourite in Remastered, and an old regular in Janika, but I gave him a real chance at the odds. I really liked Smarty Wild for the old Racing Post Chase this year, but he didn’t make it. I think it’s the ideal race for him, so hoping to see him run a good trial for it here.

Back at Leopardstown, I’m hoping for a big run from Blue Lord, though my attention is drawn to the shout from Lemons over Couer Sublime. I’m laying my stake off on Blue Lord for a free race, but also considering a few quid more, and covering Couer.

Goodie Two Shoes is a really interesting looking runner on the card, and over at Limerick, I’ll definitely bet The Connector, if any earlier joy

Paddy Reward Club – Blue Lord 16’s EW
    1355 Kempton – Midnightreflection 25’s EW3
Welsh National – Time To Get Up EW7
    PP Chase – Fighter Allen 33’s EW7
PP Chase – Stones and Roses 50’s EW7
    1509 Kempton – Smarty Wild 14’s EW

Edit – Editeur Du Gite 33’s EW

Smashing day yesterday, set up by the early win on Blue Lord. I thought the 16’s was wrong at the the time, but to win it like that was fab. That set up the bet on Editeur Du Gite, and I got 33’s before the off. Happy Days. Not just chuffed with the prices, but to have two winners like that in a pair of Two Mile Graded Chases, well that made it sweeter, as not my usual kind of races.

Although out with the washing eventually, my selections in The Welsh National and Paddy Power Chase comfortably paid their way in running, and in the case of The Paddy Power, that was vitally important, as it was a big betting race for me.

After the earlier joy, I added Remastered, and he won very nicely to go with the EW on Smarty Wild, who got me 20’s. Please let Smarty go to Kempton in February

Midnightreflection ran well enough, but she’s maybe not one to persevere with, and having eventually bet The Connector, he disappointed me a bit.

Best day for a while, but not that I wasn’t kicking myself. Blue Lord set me up nicely, so as well giving me that bumper win on Editeur, there should’ve been more.

I genuinely looked at adding Real Steel, but I ducked him, while I stupidly didn’t add The Two Amigos. I mentioned he was second choice on the thread, and as I sit here, I’m still no quite sure why I didn’t bet him. I also missed Faivoir as a decent EW in the last at Kempton. That one was easier to explain. I forgot about him.

Smashing day then, and probably back down to earth today no doubt.

I’ve bet Sire Du Berlais as I always do, and for all he’s surely Pertemps bound, also added him for The Stayers, for which he’s almost impossible to recommend.

Falcon Eight has also been bet, and I had a small bet on Built By Ballymore in the opener.

I always like a bet in The Tim Duggan at Limerick, and I’ve went with Rebel Gold, who’s price last night was a mystery.

Roxboro Road looks one for Sedgefield at some point, but I had to add him at the 100’s at Catterick

    1200 Leo – Built By Ballymore 8’s
    1303 Catterick – Roxboro Road 100’s EW
    Pertemps – Falcon Eight 12’s EW 7pl
Christmas Hrdle – Sire Du Berlais 25’s EW

Really chuffed with Conflated yesterday. Long term target of mine, this for him, and was never in doubt.

Main bet of the day too, and along with Rebel Gold who I laid back stake on before the race, happy with how the day went, considering how bad the rest of them were.

Really want to leave Herbiers alone on debut over fences, but the 10’s draws me in, while the 13-2 for Sharjah probably tells you his chances, but I have to bet him.

    1245 Doncaster – Herbiers 10’s

No joy today, but Sharjah ran well enough. Herbiers ran as his odds suggested. Should’ve left him.

Really decent week it’s been for me, and I really should take a break, buts it’s been a while since I bet him, and he’s been given a chance here, so I’m looking for a revival from Sam’s Adventure at Haydock
