Obvious highlight today is The Midlands National. It’s hardly a surprise to see the support for Time To Get Up here. I’ve made no secret of how much I like him, and if I’m being honest, the only reason I’m not with him is the price. If he’s as good as I think he could be then he should take some stopping here off his mark. Disappointed that he didn’t go to Cheltenham, where I gave him a serious chance. It’ll be hard to take if he wins this, but I think he’s an Aintree horse at the very least next year, and there should be a few angles on him to make a few pounds in the next 12 months.
Coo Star Sivola is equally interesting for having swerved Cheltenham. High on my shortlist at the entry stage, this Ultima Winner is very good on his day, and stamina shouldn’t be an issue.
I’ve went with Screaming Colours and Ramses De Teille in the end.
Screaming Colours was my selection at Punchestown last month, and he went agonisingly close. Low mileage, and I’m hoping to see him creep into it, having been switched off. Irish raiders have a decent record in this, and the fact that he travels here, presumably, in preference to Fairyhouse, is worth noting.
I’ve mentioned Ramses a lot this year. I just think he’s got a good few big runs in him yet. Very encouraging run last time, and certainly had excuses, finishing lame. I’d say if at his peak, then he’s very, very well treated from a yard who have an excellent record in this.
Elsewhere on the card, my attention is drawn to the Sandy Thomson pair who have both made the journey, with Sam Twiston Davies called on. There are slight questions over Milvale, but I just suspect that he’s well treated, and I wouldn’t be overly concerned with his last run over fences, and the return to hurdles should be a big positive. I’m less enthusiastic about Seemorelights, his last run being highly disappointing, but his first run from his extended layoff was certainly encouraging, and at a fair price, he’s, at the very least, got a bit of scope for improvement.
At Kempton, only Domaine De L’Isle really appeals. He won a very decent handicap at Ascot last season to complete a three timer, but really went off the boil after that. He’s 3lbs below his last winning mark, decent claimer takes five off, fresh from a Wind Op, he’ll love the ground, and it’s a good, but not great field. Has to be worth a go at the price, for all the apparent lack of support isn’t ideal.
Like a few at Thurles. Goes without saying that old Neverushacon catches the eye, but I’m not that enamoured with the yards runners lately, which is a cause for concern. He’s in the sentimental bracket now, but still, he was looked after last time, and only a few months since an impressive run over the banks at Punchestown. I think it’s obvious to pigeonhole him as merely a Cross Country horse at this stage, but he’s only 10, and he looks as if for all Punchestown would be the obvious target, that he’s well treated here on back form, and I just love him when he’s a price. I’m sticking with him.
I’ve also went with Stucker Hill. A fair old price for a promising run last time, and he’ll have Danny Mullins up, who must be as confident as he’s ever been, after a good week. Handicap debut over the larger obstacles. I think he’s interesting.

1635 Thurles – Stucker HillMarch 20, 2021 at 20:39 #1531600That was much more like it today. Domaine De L’Isle was the nap today, well Time To Get Up was actually the nap, but I didn’t bloody bet him.
Just delighted with Domaine, and good when it comes off. It was a peach of a ride too.
As much as I was kicking myself for not betting Time To Get Up, it was good to see him continue to progress. As I said yesterday, he’s an Aintree horse at the very least, and I thought that win confirmed that there’s plenty more to come. A lot more.
Got some consolation, getting small profit on Screaming Colours, and a bit more on Ramses. Really good race this year, and I’m normally miles off with it, so a lot more enjoyable.
March 21, 2021 at 00:56 #1531612A couple of very good cards in Ireland today.
Curragh
Gee Rex has popped up a few times on the thread this season, winning a couple of times, and running very well in defeat over hurdles at Leopardstown. Just a very likeable type. I’m really impressed with how Emmet Mullins is going, and I’m hoping he can have him primed for this. The market would suggest so, and he’s getting fair hammered. I’ll definitely be laying for a free race before the off.In the 1640, We’ll Go Again looks a cracking EW Bet with six places. More than one good run last year, and he’ll be fit, for having run over hurdles last month, where he certainly caught the eye down the back straight.
Downpatrick
Their big race is The Ulster National, and it’s a bit of a puzzle.I honestly can’t decide between the market leaders…..
Shady Operator
Space Cadet
KruzhlininThey all appear for a variety of reasons, but short enough in their own right. I also looked at High Sparrow and Mon Lino. When there’s that many, best to leave alone, but I had another look, and landed on the Watson pair, Frankly All Talk, and Amaulino. The latter won this in 2019, and went down narrowly last year. It safe to say that this will be the target, and off 2lbs higher, he must have a chance, with the 7lb claimer up.
Frankly All Talk is the rank outsider, but I think that’s harsh. Like his stablemate, he’s been mucking about over hurdles, and I think he might just be worth considering off the back of his run at Punchestown a few months back. Brian Hayes an interesting booking. I’ve had 16’s and 33’s the pair, but hoping for bigger in the morning.
Earlier on the card, Pure Genius is a very interesting runner. Really excited about this horse. I was happy enough with him at Leopardstown, and not concerned with the drop in trip here. Tight race, and the returning Tronador looks a big threat, so not overly confident, but I’ve backed him for NH Chase, so got to back that up with a small bet. As I said, not concerned with the drop in trip today, but I hope this time next year, he’s going over further.
Later on in the card is Crack on Corrie. Rare outing over fences. I’ve a soft spot for him, always runs his race, and feel as if I’ve been watching him for years. I’ve never bet him, not once. This looks a good opportunity though, and Simon Torrens a good booking.

1640 Curragh – We’ll Go Again EW 6 PlsMarch 21, 2021 at 15:20 #1531717Missed the Pure Genius run as working but I see he won. V exciting for chasing next year
Got a free bet from boylesports for GDM coming 2nd to Bob Olinger so put it on Nick Lost today ew 4pl as would be annoying if he won and I hadn’t backed him!
March 21, 2021 at 22:49 #1531763Yeah Grass, liked him immediately at Punchestown when I seen him, and wasn’t put off at Leopardstown either. If anything, I liked him even more after that.
I’m hoping NH Chase for him next year, but if he doesn’t hit that level, there’s always the 2023 Kim Muir.
He was the highlight today obviously, and he did it well.
First time betting Crack On Corrie went well, getting 9’s, and getting it back in running easily.
Gee Rex was a major disappointment, and laying off beforehand was my first smart move of the Flat this year.
Least said about The Ulster National the better. I had too many on my mind, and should’ve left it. I shouldn’t have went back in for a different angle on it. Betting those two Watson horses? Putting two and two together, and getting Z
March 24, 2021 at 09:30 #1532142Hi Bob hope you ok are there any threads up for Derby and the Oaks thought of putting threads up but not if already there
Hope you did well at Cheltenham CHANTRY HOUSE 25/1 Ante post only winner
And you see my jump bets in Meydan Thursday thread while domestic flat bets bets up in my flat thread
March 24, 2021 at 09:38 #1532145Threads bumped up Darren.
Cheltenham was a winner for me, but could have been, no should have been, miles better.
Tuesday put me ahead for the week with Vintage Clouds and Galvin, and Gold Cup was a big winner, but would have been even better if A Plus Tard had won, rather than got second.
March 24, 2021 at 19:45 #1532256Hi VTC, hope things are going well for you.
What do you make of Thunderosa ,chances tomorrow.
Back up in trip and winning conditional is back up, but the race looks a lot deeper than the one he won on penultimate start?
March 24, 2021 at 20:08 #1532266Hi Ken, all good here, hope all good with you.
Yeah, was actually going to put him up later, as I’m waiting out the price of one at Ludlow.
I think the jockey, and the step up in trip will see a much better run than last time. No question, that was a disappointment. Really nice price tomorrow, and worth the risk at 20’s. Elwood with Jordan Gainford looks a big danger though.
The one at Ludlow is that old rascal Jenkins. This trip looks more appropriate than last time, and obviously good in his day, but I need more than that for a bet midweek. In a Hunters. At Ludlow.
The interesting thing for me is the booking of Ryan Mania. It’s a fair old trek from The Borders to Ludlow for one ride, and he’s hardly a regular at the track. Can’t remember him ever riding there. He’s then all the way back up the road for a full book at Musselburgh on Friday. Interesting.
1615 Ludlow – Jenkins 10’s
1635 Clonmel – Thunderosa 20’s EWMarch 25, 2021 at 10:46 #1532303Fine thanks Bob,
Thunderosa race has cut up now, 3 of the fancied runners have come out, floating around 12s now so must have a better chance now than before and still value. He’ll be getting a few of my quids today I think.
Old Rascal is about right regards Jenkins, definitely could pop up but I’m not a huge fan of hunter chases as a betting medium.
Best of luck as matey.
March 25, 2021 at 16:07 #1532345Cheers Ken, hopefully get a run for our money from him, but he has to step up, even with a few missing.
Yeah, don’t bet on too many Hunters myself, and I’ll be laying Jenkins at some point for sure, if I can.
Good luck with Thunderosa
March 25, 2021 at 16:22 #1532348If I have worse pick than Jenkins this year, I’d be surprised. Maybe a reminder to myself not to bet on midweek Hunters at Ludlow.

March 25, 2021 at 17:14 #1532357Well done VtC, tidy little forecast given it was reduced to 7 runners!
March 25, 2021 at 17:46 #1532363Thanks Rob, really happy with that one, didn’t expect a return like that for the forecast.
Very happy with Thunderosa as well, obviously the Rule 4 cut into the 20’s, but got to be happy with that after Jenkins.
March 25, 2021 at 19:46 #1532384Nice work on the forecast VTC,
Thunderosa does us proud again, never looked in any trouble really. 12s after the NRs was a steal.
March 25, 2021 at 20:02 #1532386Well done lads. Have to admit i deserted him after his 33/1 3rd behind Ballyshannon Rose…Costly on my behalf.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 25, 2021 at 22:17 #1532407Thanks Jack, not sure what they’ll do with him now, but interesting to see where they go.
Cheers Ken, the forecast the icing on the cake. Well done yourself, looked good most of the way. As I said, not sure where next, but probably one of those for when the price is right.
