Value has completely gone with Venetias hasn’t it; de Bromhead still ok though. Only spotted Sizing Scorpion running two minutes before start time having done my dough on Sizing Silver earlier in the afternoon. That would have hurt.
November 4, 2015 at 20:01 #1220373Yeah, people are getting wise to it moe, but there’s still bits and bobs here and there. I’ll probably keep a close eye up until Christmas.
I had a moment you would have been proud of today. No bet day, but while having a look “just in case”, I liked the look of Crickel Wood at 8’s, 9’s at Warwick, as Longsdon’s runners are worth keeping an eye on just now as well……….unfortunately I went out for lunch and totally forgot about Crickel Wood, I don’t have to tell you the rest.
Wouldn’t have bet Sizing Silver, but in hindsight he was a smashing price.
November 4, 2015 at 20:04 #1220375Hi Darren, yeah, as I said to moe, still keeping an eye on her, but not happy with myself, I didn’t back one of them
The Hennessy looks like the best in years, but still hoping that Houblon Des Obeaux can sneak 4th. I’d like to have seen him a wee bit closer on Saturday at Ascot, but as result, he’s down 3lb, and more importantly 1lb lower than he was when a very close second last year. Fingers crossed he goes for it.
PS not quite sure what’s happening with the “quotes” haha
November 18, 2015 at 15:42 #1222159Bob you happy man now just saw prices for Welsh national now hope i can find another 33/1 winner like with EMPERORS CHOICE last year.
November 18, 2015 at 18:52 #1222181My time of year Darren, love it.
Very happy memories of this last year, having bet him myself. If you remember that.
I had this in mind for Benvolio for a while, and 20’s looks fair, but also 3 or 4 in there that really appeal as well. Going to give it a proper look, but will be backing Midnight Prayer, with Mountainous a close second.
November 28, 2015 at 14:25 #1223642Grandads Horse was supposed to be my only proper bet today, but following his withdrawal, I’ll take a chance on Cloudy Too, who I gave a mention to on earlier today.
“Interesting runner today in The Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle, in Cloudy Too. He’s a long term fancy for mine for The Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby, but trying to talk myself out of betting him today, as they’re clearly building him up for something………….well he’s certainly miles better than he showed in his last 2 runs Less than 2 years ago he was running in The Gold Cup off 157, he’s now running off 142, 6lbs than lower than when winning The 2013 Rowland Meyrick, I’m sure he’s bound to pop up soon………….aaah **** it, he’ll like the soft going today, I’ll take a chance that todays the day :yahoo:”
I reckon he’ll either win or be pulled up.
Rehearsal Chase
Cloudy Too, Virak, The Last Samuri
50p Combination Exactas, and TrifectasHennessy Cognac Gold Cup
Houblon Des Obeaux, If In Doubt, The Young Master
50p Exactas, £1 Trifectas-£906.20
November 29, 2015 at 14:42 #1223771All systems go for Cloudy Too for Wetherby surely, after that run. The only sting in the tale was picking the wrong Sue Smith horse for The Trifecta aaaaaaarghhhh
November 29, 2015 at 19:21 #1223814Been out for the afternoon so had a happy surprise when I got in to find that good old Pam Sly had got me a 12/1 winner. Annoyingly I backed another of Kielan Woods rides which did nothing but he won on another horse. No idea who he is but he’s got a very good strike rate. Ms Sly really should be on my Christmas card list!
December 1, 2015 at 19:51 #1224279Excellent moe, can’t argue with a 12-1 shot. You’ve mentioned her before as well, always great when you find a trainer to follow like that. Not really betting day to day much just now, only 1 bet the last 2 Saturdays, which is unheard of for me. I’d been getting the Venetia runners wrong a few weeks back, so no Christmas Card to her yet haha.
Yeah, I’ve noticed Kielan Woods, I’ve been on the right side of a couple of his times, and I had a really good day with him at Fakenham last year when he won on Midnight Chorister, he’s his regular jockey as well.
December 1, 2015 at 20:37 #1224318There’s another jockey called DG Noonan who has an amazing strike rate as well; no idea who his is. Pam let me down today but a lot of steamers came in and Liam had a good placed horse in a bumper. Anthony Honeyball is doing well for mo at the mo although I’m only really breaking even. Kielan on a ‘Midnight horse’; double whammy….how could a combination like that possibly get beat?
December 3, 2015 at 13:14 #1224511Yep; 5 pence ew. Think he’s being backed as well [unless the bookies are running in fear of my bet]. Mind you, Kielan did hit the deck pretty hard yesterday…I immediately thought I’d jinxed him. I’ve backed a Lizzie Kelly outsider in one race….she does very well at Leicester sometimes [especially in selling races]. Fingers crossed. Pam bailed me out yet again. Her strike rate is phenomenal. And my old friend Investissement nearly won at a big price; I’ve followed him for years.
December 3, 2015 at 15:40 #1224527Bob just update my bets for weekend in my thread and big races over the christmas time any views
And no bet yet for Paddy power chase over 3m have good days last few years had Cross Appeal at 16/1 and Colbert Station at 12/1 both won at single figure price. No idea who win this year
December 3, 2015 at 19:50 #1224543Looks like you’re moving the market again moe lol, no joy today, but hopefully next time for the pair of them.
PS great to see Pam paying her way for you
December 3, 2015 at 20:04 #1224545Hi Darren, love this race, always top notch line up, and still licking my wounds from Cause of Causes from 2 years ago, when Rockyaboya beat him narrowly. I was on antepost at 25’s, and he started 6’s fav…….would have won a nice 4 figures off him, but had to settle for place money, which was small consolation.
It looks a particularly strong entry this year, so it’ll be no bet until the next forfeit stage at the earliest. Funny you mention Colbert Station, as I was hoping to see him get an entry. Although getting on a bit, I reckon he showed a bit of his old spark last year, and I think at 25’s, as he slips down the weights, he could have a good crack at it.
Here’s my early shortlist
Heathfield 16’s
Bless The Wings 20’s
Minella Foru 20’s
Azorian 25’s
Colbert Station 25’s
Georges Conn 25’s
Los Amigos 25’s
Rossvoss 25’s
The Job Is Right 25’s
Ballyadam Approach 33’s
Talbot Road 33’s
Urano 40’sso you can see why I need to see the first Forfeit Stage, I’ve never liked so many horses at this stage of a race before, badly need to whittle that lot down, and I’ve not even mentioned my notebook horses, Sammy Black & Operating who are both 33’s. It’s a real headscratcher Going to have a proper look at it next week.
Safe to say with that list, no bet at the moment.
December 5, 2015 at 17:42 #1224820AL FEROF my only bet tomorrow it is Bob any views on race
Happy to see Tour Des Champs win as well but think it was today best day to catch him don’t think he put another run like that in Welsh national come to soon.
Any views on Ladbroke hurdle of the irish horses i like DIAMOND KING
December 5, 2015 at 21:07 #1224833Hey Darren,
not a big betting race for me, but Al Ferof could just do it tomorrow, certainly his time of the year, and the switch to the Skelton yard won’t have done him any harm. I’d certainly like to see more from the Nicholls runners, so maybe a good time to take on his old stablemate tomorrow, in Ptiz Zig, who’s obviously no mug.
If I have a bet, it’ll be Wishfull Thinking in an ew Lucky 63. Not been doing any Lucky 31’s, 63’s for the last 5 or 6 weeks, and bar anteposts (a lot less than usual) and the odd systems bet here and there, it’s been pretty quiet betting wise. Bet 5 horses today, Double Ross, Mwaleshi, Grandads Horse, Vic’s Canvas, & Sa Suffit, and none of them troubled the judge. Escaped with a small loss (really got away with it), thanks to Soll, who I bet last week, and got a cracking lay in running on Vic’s Canvas. That’s been the story though since September, nothing to get excited about. September was my second most profitable month ever on the horses, but predictably this was followed by a wretched October. Ready to start back though, and if I do a Lucky 63, no doubt I’ll be kicking myself for not taking Al Ferof haha. Very best of luck with him.
December 5, 2015 at 22:30 #1224855Looking forward to a decent days racing tomorrow, with a few big names on show, on both sides of The Irish Sea.
Seeyouatmidnight, one of my favourite horses in training, makes his second start over fences at Kelso tomorrow, and another round of jumping like he had at Carlisle will do for me. See no reason why he can’t prosper over fences, and though he might just be below of what’s required for The RSA, I’ve chucked a few quid his way. I’ve also had a few pounds on for The World Hurdle at 170’s to 310’s, should things go pear shaped over fences, but hopefully it won’t come to that.
Jett is back out tomorrow, though it’s in an NH Flat Race, rather than over timber. Been looking forward to seeing him progress this year, though would like to see him jump sooner rather than later.
As I said in previous post, I’ll probably leave The Peterborough Chase alone, though Al Ferof does have a nice solid look to him, but I wouldn’t rule out old Wishfull Thinking, who looks a bit overpriced at 11-2.
Decent looking John Durkan Chase tomorrow, and another no bet race for me, though I’d love to see Djakadam win it, he ran his heart out for me at Cheltenham. I also like the look of Foxrock each way at 9’s. I’m still getting over them running him in The Ryanair, and he’s surely better than that. Decent looking field though and probably a race to sit back and enjoy rather than bet on.
Talbot Road is a horse coming back from the sidelines, and if he show’s no ill-effects, he could be an interesting outsider for The Paddy Power Chase, for which he’s 33’s at the moment. Fingers crossed he shows a fair bit of spark tomorrow.
Not just one of my favourite horses in training, but one of my favourite & most profitable horses of all time, Seabass, makes his comeback tomorrow. He was a machine in 2011/12, and why he wasn’t given an entry for The 2012 Gold Cup, will forever be a mystery to me. He would have hosed up, there wasn’t a horse that would have got near him I shouldn’t moan though, as he was really good to me that year, happy happy days. After an indifferent 2013, he picked up an injury, and I just assumed he’d been retired. I hope they know what they’re doing as he doesn’t owe connections anything. I’ll have a sentimental few quid on him at the 14’s, and hopefully bigger, and should he win, 24 hours after Tour Des Champs, then it’ll be another scream the house down moment.
Just come back safe and sound though
