Good luck with your bets today stilvi.

Yeah, was happy to escape with a profit yesterday, however small.

I’ve just made a few quid off all 3 of mine (particularly Minella Scamp, and like yesterday, I must have been watching a different race) in the first there, so I’ll be joining you with Woodland Opera.

Shame about the R4’s, but with confirmed no bet for me in the race, I’ll shout on Moon Racer. Yeah, shame about jockey on Presenting Percy, I’ve still not forgiven her for Oscar Delta, who I had at 28’s that day :negative: Interesting though that there’s a bot of cash for Percy.

In the last, I sincerely hope you’re right about Tobouggaloo.

Well, much much better on Day 2, and as I said on previous post, first race went very well, with money back from all 3 laying off. Minella Scamp was a big winner, as was Candlestick who also obliged with each way returns.

Had a decent go on Woodland Opera in the next, and he & Robbie Power really dug it out, was absolutely delighted as he looked beat.

Race 3 went according to plan as well, with Sandymount Duke again collecting the each way money at a price, and also rewarding me in running. I’d already had a few quid on, and went in again after Woodland Operas win.

A good few quid up now, and went in again with a really fair go on Captain Conan, and Irish Cavalier. Captain Conan ran very well, and just missed out on money back from him on a lay put in pre-race, but Irish Cavalier, well I’ve gave him a few positive mentions this year, and was chuffed to bits to get a decent return from him. He really did do it well, and I cheered him home in good style.

The last race was the only low point, with Forge Meadow bet win only, and too short to make it worthwhile laying. Copper Kay was only a small loser, but I had a touch of the “Baily Greens” and had too much on Toubouggaloo. I got greedy again, and she never figured.

All in all, shouldn’t complain though, and it was a very good day.

Day 3 is my type of day, and I’ve got fancies all over the place. Unfortunately, back to work, so will make laying (bar pre-race lays) that bit more difficult. Hopefully I’ll manage

1540. I’d be very keen on Space Ship for this, and the jockey booking looks a plus. Another one of those who looks kept for this meeting, and happy with the 20’s. Tough looking race to be fair, and I’ll also have Sir Scorpion, and The Brock Inn on my side too.
Bet – Space Ship 20’s, Sir Scorpion 8’s, The Brock Inn 14’s, all each way 5 places. Lays (work permitting) on Space Ship & The Brock Inn

1620. Rock The World is another horse I’ve went on and on about this year, and he was always going to get bet this week, despite being slightly disappointing at Aintree. He’s short enough, but worth a few quid anyway, as is his stablemate, Mr Fiftyone, and I’m not surprised to see a fair bit of cash for him tonight. Jacksonslady has done me few favours in the past, and she seems to thrive at these big Festivals. I think it’s important for her not to have too big a field to deal with, and with her coming here fresh, she’s getting a few quid her way. To confuse matters further, I don’t think USA should be underestimated, and this company is more realistic than he’s faced in the past. I can’t let him go without a few quid on at a price, and I’ll hopefully be able to get to my phone pre-race to get a good price on the exchange.
Bet – Rock The World 9-2, and Jacksonslady 6’s Win Only. Mr Fiftyone 11’s & USA 20’s, both each way, and both, hopefully bet to lay as well.

1655. Cross Country races aren’t for everyone, but I don’t mind them too much, and though the likes of Enniskillen has paid his way, I really could do with another horse like A New Story to follow. He was a cash machine for me, unlike Quantitativeeasing, who is without a doubt, the costliest horse I’ve ever followed. I was going to leave this race well alone, but I’ll have a win only bet on him, and win or lose, it’s probably the last time I’ll bet him. It’ll certainly be the last time to bet Uncle Junior, as far as I know this will be his swan song, and would it really shock anyone, despite his poor form this year, to see him sneak a place. I’m happy to take a chance at 25’s each way.
Bet – Quantitaveeasing 5’s win, Uncle Junior 25’s each way, and hopefully bet to lay.

1730 As rock solid as Alpha Des Obeaux looks, Stan James have held the 16’s on If In Doubt, and I’m very keen on him, and struggling to see him not placing.
Bet – If In Doubt 16’s ew, and hopefully (price permitting) bet to lay.

1805 Hopefully If In Doubt can do the business, and if that’s the case, then there’ll be even more going on to his stablemate Sykes in this. Fairly solid horse, and jockey taking 5lbs off could be vital. At Fishers Cross ran his best race for a while at Aintree, and off the back of that, he looks way overpriced.
Bet – Sykes 16’s ew, and At Fishers Cross 20’s ew, both 5 places, with both hopefully bet to lay.

1840 I’m on Ttebbob each way at 33’s, and hoping he makes the 3. It would have to be a very flat performance from Douvan, for Ttebbob to figure, but I’m a big fan, and hoping he doesn’t disgrace himself. Fingers crossed. Should Douvan run flat, then every chance Sizing John, who’s done me proud this year, will be the one to benefit.
Bet – Ttebbob 33’s ew Antepost

That’s more than enough for Day 3, and should be home for work for the last 2 races. If things have went well, I’ll have a look when I get in.

    Well done on yesterday.

I managed to lose a little less than the first day.

Minella Scamp was a little similar to Ordinary World in that as soon as he came under pressure he hit reverse gear almost immediately. Didn’t look as if he wanted to know and not one I would rely on again. As you say Woodland Opera looked beat but fortunately he was outpaced rather than hitting reverse. I think Coney Island should have beaten Bellshill but the unexpected ordinary pace didn’t help his cause and then Geraghty didn’t exploit what I believe was his greater stamina. The race was one step too far for Cue Card. It probably wouldn’t have mattered but I wondered if Brennan might have taken him to the front instead of racing too free in behind. Another bumper bonanza for the bookmakers. Poor from Codd allowing the winner a very useful start on a horse who was probably short of his best. I think Presenting Percy is a little better than the bare result. He eventually got the box seat but only after racing six wide with the choke out. We saw how good Mangan was at settling one in the last. Safe hands she most certainly isn’t. Irish Cavalier showed himself a class act under a fine ride by a promising jock. Can’t argue too much with the last result with a form horse actually winning despite a market drift. Tearsofclewbay needs to settle better and will no doubt be returned to a slower surface.

As for today they keep making these opening races too easy so this time I am definitely giving it a miss.

The second race is only slightly more punter friendly. When will the rain arrive, if at all? Rock The World will be an early barometer. No rain and he should go well. Unfortunately, JP has a few potential plots including bookmaker’s pin-up, Bold Henry.

The favourite will obviously be hard to beat in the Cross Country. Ballyboker Breeze will be another weather indicator. He isn’t Big Shu but he might be able to run second without any rain. He palpably doesn’t stay the longer distance Cheltenham.

Alpha Des Obeaux should win but I remember saying that a few times already this week. He appears to have quite a bit in hand and the ground shouldn’t be a concern.

I have gone with the JP pair, Cup Final and At Fishers Cross in the staying handicap. Opera Hat produced a useful winner yesterday maybe Asian Maze can do likewise. Power delivered on the JP second string Henry Higgins earlier this season and if you take out the Cheltenham runs Cup Final’s form isn’t too bad. Having delivered on Irish Cavalier hopefully Moore can get a decent spin from the top weight.

The Game Changer to finish second if the ground stays reasonable. Not prepared to give Ttebbob another chance after the white flag job.

The mares race looks almost as tricky as a handicap and consequently a fairly easy swerve.

Suspect Invitation Only is pretty high up the Mullins pecking order and he should win the last.

    Good luck.

Only just realised that Ballyboker Bridge (not Breeze) is actually stepping up in trip. That would be a concern for me whatever the ground.

Thanks stilvi, was a decent day.

Ballybokers chances at least look improved for the absence of Josies Orders. Yeah, no real excuses for Cue Card, and beaten fair and square, but connections must still be delighted with the season he’s given them.

Least said about Mangan in the last, the better, it didn’t look great.

Really hope the jockey can build on that from Irish Cavalier, I thought he rode that race very well.

Good luck with your bets today, I could easily have went with The Game Changer, and I don’t think anyone could be criticised for deserting Ttebbob after his capitulation.

Goes without saying, that I hope At Fishers Cross will be fighting it out at the end with Cup Final.

Had a quick look at tomorrow’s card, and I think win or lose today, I won’t be betting as much. Famous last words no doubt!!!

Hi Boby, good luck today. This isn’t a section I’ve found myself in a lot,
I’ve never started a thread of my daily picks, kind of kept to the big ones
in the BIG RACES-DISCUSSION section. I’ll get round to it one of these days.

I’m trying not to go mad after a good few days, but can’t resist having a
few quid on ONE TRACK MIND in the Champion Stayers Hurdle. He’s impressed me
as a horse to follow, and is open to more improvement than most in the field.
I took the 12/1 yesterday, still 11s in places. I’ll be very surprised if he’s
    out of the 1st 3.

I see you’re going for Cup Final. He was a horse I expected big things of a couple
of years back. He’s still a good horse and if anywhere near his old best he
has a cracking chance. Good luck with him and your other choices today :good:

Out of touch at the moment having been away for a while. So relieved that Cantlow didn’t win today, having followed him all season. Was on Jennies Jewel in the last; should’ve listened to Big G. Did dear old Des say that Jennies Jewel had fallen at the last or did I not hear him properly? Also on At Fishers Cross.
