Went with Rebel Gold in The Dan Moore
Previous winner, and though still higher than that day, I’m happy enough with his recent quiet runs over hurdles.
Even happier with his run in The Grade 2 here in April, and with seven pound claimer booked, reckon he’s got a solid EW Chance
Rebel Gold EW5Pls/20’s
January 17, 2025 at 00:39 #1718125Really happy with last couple put up. Supersundae a decent EW, a week past Sunday, and though I’ve bet him for the novices, having already mentioned the Martin Pipe for him, could also see him go Coral Cup.
Rebel Gold just out the frame, but comfortably got money back on him, and happy with him.
Rare busy Friday, and few bets on the go. Happy with my pair in The Veterans, and not ruling out Sam Brown if he goes to a decent price in running. Hard to justify three though. We’ll see.
Definitely be laying Panic Attack before The Mares too, for a free race.
The one I’ve been waiting on all week though is Hold Up La Colmine in the last at Windsor. Still managed to miss the 25’s though. Hopefully he can do me a turn here, and reckon he could make the frame
1608 Windsor – Hold Up La Colmine 18’s EW 4Pls
January 19, 2025 at 12:53 #1718392Really happy with Colmine the other day, and he looks interesting for Sandown in April. Biggest bet of the week, so bit peed at missing the 25’s though.
Yesterday was a lot quieter with only much smaller bets.
Like one today though, and thought Turbo worth persevering with. Put him up a fortnight ago, and he finished 8th, having bet him EW6, but that did him credit, and he was a poor 8th.
Turbo 20’s EW 4Pls
January 22, 2025 at 18:45 #1718621Happy with Turbo on Sunday. Eventually subject of a bit of a gamble, but happy with the EW money
Nick Rockett my main hope in The Thyestes tomorrow. Always a bigger betting race for me The Thyestes, and for all I’ll have Coko Beach, a bit unusual for the main bet being at the front of the market. I like this horse, and still tempted to back him for Aintree before tomorrow
Thyestes – Nick Rockett 13-2
January 25, 2025 at 00:05 #1718788Way chuffed with Nick Rockett at Gowran. One of my favourite races of the year The Thyestes, and I really enjoyed that one.
Lots of bets about Saturday, and like a few of them, but main race is The Great Yorkshire
Great Yorkshire Chase
Docpickedme 33’s EW
Raffle Ticket 33’s EW 5PlsFebruary 1, 2025 at 13:30 #1719393He surely wouldn’t have won but for the faller, but Docpickedme did me proud last week, and I’ll take it
Been happy keeping things to a minimum on this thread, it’s working very well so far. However, busier day today, and I’m sticking four up. I’ll probably do this DRF, Cheltenham, Aintree, and Punchestown
Race and Stay – Lucky Lyreen 50’s EW/33’s EW7pls
Irish Gold Cup – Conflated 150’s EW
Masters Chase – O’Connell 6’s
Ryanair – Shanbally Kid 33’s EWFebruary 2, 2025 at 10:24 #1719570Happy enough with yesterday.
I’m going to have to accept that Shanbally Kid is not that good. Market vibes before told me the story, but still disappointing.
A lot happier with O’Connell, and delighted with the price, and that ride. Lucky Lyreen was a decent EW as well
Few bets on the go today, but main interest from this pair.
Market doesn’t like Arch Enemy, but I’ll stay with her. Topped up to 40’s, and I’ll take bigger if I see it.
Cadell is my idea of Scottish National contender right now (not 100% on how many runs he needs for NH Chase) but had to cover him today as well
Paddy Mullins Mares – Arch Enemy 40’s EW6Pls
Edinburgh National – Cadell 8’sFebruary 6, 2025 at 00:23 #1719870Rare midweek bet these days, and happy to do so, as this is always a quieter weekend for me.
Nice return from Turbo last time, and I’ll give him another try today
1400 Thurles – Turbo 14’s EW4Pls
February 7, 2025 at 10:11 #1719922Really competitive race, but was definitely leaving it alone at one point, but Schalke kept coming back to me.
He’s not been a massively costly horse for me, but I’ve had a few losing bets on him, and after I bet him when I was at Carlisle a year back, I swore never again.
However, he’s now with a yard I like to follow, and this seems a very strange choice to pitch him in back over fences. Hoping he’s schooled well lately. Risky, but thought I’d just go with him, and getting bet, with best priced 11’s now
Laskslin very big at 33’s too, but only one at moment
North Wales National – Schalke 11’s
February 8, 2025 at 11:49 #1720067Did you get on Laskalin? I hope so. Jockey did a great job, I thought. Schalke hit a fence early on. It’s not your horse….I fancied The Big Breakaway, but no bet…Good luck today.
February 8, 2025 at 12:42 #1720083I bloody didn’t Tom. To be fair after I’d posted, the 33’s had gone, but he was still 25’s. Stuck a forecast on, but managed not to have a bean on Laskalin himself. Called myself a few names lol
Agree, Schalke maybe not for me, but I know I’ll bet him again now he’s with GG yard. Great run from Breakaway
Main hope today is Minella Missile. Hoping that he can make the six. If he’s just out the money, but staying on, then I can always hope they keep him targetted at Stayers. That’s unlikely though, whatever happens today. Don’t know the stats, but I’m sure the number of horses who have run in both the Newbury Hurdle and The Stayers over different seasons will be extremely low, never mind in the same season
Sam Brown the other main bet today, and I’ve topped up again at 12’s after the non runner, and a wee but to three places
Denman – Sam Brown 10’s EW 3Pls/12’s
Wm Hill Hrdle – Minella Missile 28’s EW6PlsFebruary 8, 2025 at 19:12 #1720143A tough day. I had two non runners from bets earlier in the week (Le Patron, Editeur de Gite), and the other two may as well have been (Shut up Shirley, Bective Abbey. Did back Minella, too. Then bets on two others had shortened a lot giving me the option of cashing out for double the stake, but each was unplaced in the end (Brave Kingdom (pulled up), Smarty Wilde). One to forget!
February 15, 2025 at 12:08 #1720618Yeah, not my favourite weekend of the NH Season anyway, and as I said a few days back, always a quieter weekend betting wise. Minella the only bigger bet of weekend, and he was very disappointing. Surprised/Intrigued to see that’s he’s been kept in The Stayerd
The Rowley pair are main interest today
Pertemps – My Bobby Dazzler 28’s EW 5Pls
Haydock Trial – Val Dancer 14’sFebruary 22, 2025 at 01:09 #1721041Pretty average fare last week, and My Bobby Dazzler was well beaten. Better in The National Trial, and few quid profit from Val Dancer in running. Looks to have plenty to offer still, and I’d like to see him head to Ayr
Couple of hopefuls this weekend
Eider – Choosethenews 16’s
Ladbrokes – Unanswered Prayers 40’s EWFebruary 23, 2025 at 07:30 #1721205Really poor yesterday, and not much more to add.
Hoping that can Falcon Eight can book his place at Cheltenham today
Pertemps Naas – Falcon Eight 33’s EW5Pls
March 1, 2025 at 15:06 #1721601Main interest today from Moroder and Booster Bob.
If Moroder is in same form as Cheltenham last April, he can go close for a repeat win here. Haven’t bet him for a while, so hoping I’ve timed it right.
Booster Bob another unpredictable one, but think he’s capable. Topped him up at 20’s
Grimthorpe – Moroder EW 5Pls/40’s
Greatwood – Booster Bob 33’s EWMarch 2, 2025 at 10:04 #1721693Wonderful selections, Bobby. I think “out of this world” would be an understatement! Gadfly that I am, having to repair fences that have blown down in the gales, I did not see this entry till today. But I did see your three naps and opted for Booster Bob, which rescued my other failed bets yesterday.
That should set you up for a real tilt at Cheltenham this year. I imagine you have been re-reading all the guidelines you set yourself last year. One can only hope that all the odds-on favourites do not turn into realities (unless, like you, one backed them last April!)
More power to your elbow and have a fabulous Cheltenham this year.
