So you can’t properly define what the NHS “funded properly” means.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 20, 2022 at 21:37 #1584043That was a fair post Richard no apologies needed. Gambling can easily turn into addiction and the bookies are feeding it, ruining lives.
I would hope the NHS will have a change of mind and put the money to good use, like allocating it all to a children’s cancer ward. Surely nobody could object to that.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 21, 2022 at 07:55 #1584072Ginge- the NHS has been underfunded ever since your lot came back into government in 2010.
And a lot of its (reduced) budget is then wasted on jobs for the boys, such as management consultants:
https://www.consultancy.uk/news/amp/1240/nhs-spends-640-million-on-management-consultants
There are also enormous wastes due to excessive admin, required by law.
So I stand by my earlier point: proper funding is the opposite of what this government is doing.
February 21, 2022 at 08:15 #1584075I don’t see how your average overworked, underpaid, member of the NHS staff is a hypocrite for still taking up an offer of a free day at the races.
They don’t make the executive decisions.
I think it’s good the bookmakers contributed – and a shame that is ceasing – but if it really is making people uncomfortable than fair enough.

But if I were getting a free day out at the races that was being held in recognition of my “heroism”, I’d certainly feel very uncomfortable if my employer made this decision. So uncomfortable I just wouldn’t want to go.Value Is EverythingFebruary 21, 2022 at 16:05 #1584107When there is a worldwide economic boom you’d expect comparatively more to be spent on the NHS, Glad’.
…Which explains it being “reduced” since that boom.
Anyway, this is getting off “horse racing”.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 21, 2022 at 16:41 #15841171. Back in the day when I used to work for other people I never had an employer I respected enough to care what bonehead decisions they’d made.
2. I’ve never been one for looking a gifthorse freebie in the mouth!
I’d be first in the queue, with my knife and fork and bib on!
I assume the day at the races includes a free lunch?
Just out of interest, how long do you have to have worked for the NHS to qualify?
Can you have just joined, phoned in sick every day, and be planning to quit without notice after they’ve weighed in for the last race?
Asking for a friend!
