Surely, none of us, not one of us is in a position to judge the team at Newbury UNTIL an investigation has been carried out. None of us are insiders into any decisions that were made. IF after investigation someone is found to have acted dispicably, then we can feel free to be angry. Until then, we shouldn’t be jumping to conclusions. Running the first race wasn’t even necessarily a bad decision anyway, no harm came of it. It’s all a matter of opinion at this stage.
Innocent until proven guilty surely.
February 12, 2011 at 22:03 #340297I realise I’m going on about it and I apologies for it but at same time feel it’s neccesary to ensure people don’t sweep this under the carpet as they have done in the past on seperate issues.
Then here my advice. Every day post your thoughts on any updates on Newbury progress. Keep thread alive but dont do 100 posts in 1 evening and think this will stop it being sweeped under the carpet. Let it sink in for us all

He came back safe sure that’s half the battle.
Hopefully he enjoys rest of his career and stays safe, won’t be watching
February 12, 2011 at 22:16 #340305First off, what a distressing experience for those directly involved at the course be they connections or spectators.
Clearly racing should not have gone ahead after the incident and that it did was a mistake. This was not a case of one horse collapsing. Four horses had experienced similar trauma which had led to two fatalities.
However, today provided an unprecedented set of circumstances and I will await the outcome of the investigation before making any judgements.
We have already had the burnt mouth’s that weren’t and the singed lead rein that wasn’t. That shows just how speculation can muddy waters.

February 12, 2011 at 22:20 #340308money/loss of revenue was the reason management acted so irresponsibly today, not pressure/confusion.
In your opinion – not one single shred of evidence to back that assertion up.
Ten Plus – I think some people reported, as Rob North pointed out, that it was when the horses went onto the grass that the problems occured. Indeed Nicky Henderson said that his horse was fortunate in that it jumped back onto the rubber rather than staying on the grass and that may have been what saved it.
The incident brought to mind a horrific circumstance in Congo involving a football match, where a lightning strike killed all 11 players on one team while the other team were unscathed. Those players just dropped to the ground.

Although there is no suggestion of anything of this nature (or of foul play) I agree wholeheartedly that no one should pre-empt the findings of any enquiry.

Difference being the match was stopped, racing was not.

I’m going to stop pre empting so and wait as that seems the sensible thing to do. I’m sorry for getting carried away like a broken record but I’m so so angry that they ran the first race, really disgusted, but will hold back until we know why they did so..

Fifa dont allow 11 substitutes in one go!
February 12, 2011 at 22:26 #340313I mainly agree with Fist’s views. A terrible day for racing in general but finger pointing isn’t the way forward. It was an unprecedented occurrance and therefore to it’s all too easy to play the blame game ie ; Why was this done, why wasn’t this done etc etc….
The key thing going forward is that such a tragedy is avoided, checks implemented or whatever is needed to ensure safety for horses and humans alike. Hate to see horses injured/killed but accidents happen.
Less finger pointing, more support for a great sport please all!!
February 12, 2011 at 22:27 #340314Here is some background on Wikipdia on ‘step potential’ – the electrical phenomenon being mooted today as the effect which may have led to the shocks received by the horses.

Player in Spain died of sudden death syndrome last season, match stopped immediately with cause of death unknown at time.
I’d agree with those lessons taken from today, but also dismissals of certain Newbury officials needs to be looked at once investigation is over.
