What on earth is happening in the paddock for the first?
Marching Light and Fenix Two have apparently both collapsed in reaction to The Merry Giant playing up. Nick Luck thinks Marching Light has had a seizure and it sounds like both horses are fatalities.
February 12, 2011 at 13:23 #340061And now they’re speculating other horses were wobbling coming into the paddock, and someone says it was like an electric current?

Meeting has to be put off, you can’t have this.
RIP.
February 12, 2011 at 13:28 #340068The vet has gone to the start to check the runners after it was reported some of the other runners wobbled coming into the paddock.
Cornelius Lysaght says they will not use the paddock for the rest of the meeting – preparde ring now.
February 12, 2011 at 13:29 #340069Extraordinary and unbelievable. The vets are reporting that other horses are also showing signs of unsteadiness. There seems something amiss around the paddock area which will now not be used.
The meeting goes ahead.
Kid Cassidy non runner.

Electric current sounds odd. Why wouldn’t any humans be affected? No pacemakers near the paddock folks!

So an unknown (at present) incident has killed two horses and caused others to be shaken, yet most trainers are running their horses regardless.
Take a leaf out of Hendersons book, he withdrew Kid Cassidy, withdraw your horses and let this fixture go, obviously unsafe.
Trainers and owners put your horses first here and don’t be so cruel. Ridiculous this meeting hasn’t been immediately cancelled.

It’s not funny, Chiswickian.
Two horses have lost their lives because, according to Bruce Jackson, a live cable has been unearthed in the parade ring.
If proven to be true, Newbury ought to have their operating license immediately revoked.

If this goes ahead then I’m finished with horse racing and proof that despite what I have previously thought that horse racing is in fact cruel.
You simply can’t ask horses to run in this environment.

Get off your silly assumption pony AJ. I wasn’t being "funny". Don’t pick fights that aren’t there.
February 12, 2011 at 13:44 #340077I can’t say I’m surprised that racing still goes ahead, I don’t know whether I think they should call it off or not.
Certainly, a tragedy of some note & for any children watching, I can’t imagine they’ll be keen to watch racing again any time soon.
Poor horses, a sad day.
February 12, 2011 at 13:48 #340079Apparently Kid Cassidy went to his knees but went onto the rubber mat and was able to recover – that certainly suggests electrical involvement. The lads probably have rubber soled shoes so will have only noticed if they then knelt down by the horses.
If they are confident it was restricted to one area – and horses at the other end were fine – then there’s no real reason to call the meeting off. Trainers/owners can withdraw their horses if they wish.

Proof so that horses welfare doesn’t come first. Trainers/owners happy enough to run their horses in a race after two horses died in the parade ring just half an hour earlier due to an unknown cause.
Connections were happy enough to say their horses were ok despite not being 100% sure of what caused the two fatalities.
Just incredible. Won’t be watching/supporting horse racing again after this.
February 12, 2011 at 13:52 #340081Racing Post are reporting that it seemed to affect the horses in aluminium shoes which is why no people were affected.

Channel Four showing what happened now.
I think the important thing here is nobody knows what caused it FACT. It’s just guesswork, nobody can say for 100% sure but yet connections were happy to run their horses without knowing what caused this incident for sure.
Shamre on those connections, digusting people.
February 12, 2011 at 13:58 #340084Simply bizarre.
