“Logically, intellectually, Sunak should not only narrow but eradicate the gap – but will he?”

No- because the voters are Conservative Party members and, therefore, logic and intellect by definition do not apply.

The Tory Party is often referred to as an Election-winning machine, they’ve been in power most of my life, they’re ruthless and don’t give second chances to the beaten the way Labour did with Kinnock and Corbyn.

However, that’s the Parliamentary Tory Party – further down the food (and evolutionary scale) chain at grassroots level, my fervent hope is they will elect an utter liability, no matter what opinion polls tells them Truss v Starmer would result in compared to Sunak v Starmer.

I see Sunak is now claiming that he personally stopped the whole country going into another lockdown last Christmas. A completely unverified claim.

It also ignores: 101 Conservative MPs who voted against the government; the loss in the North Shropshire by-election and the fact that most of the public were already weary of the policy and unlikely to accept further restrictions, especially when it was clear that omicron was not especially serious.

Sunak deserves to lose for spouting such self serving propaganda. Remember, this is someone who always protested his loyalty but registered the ghastly “Ready for Rishi” on 23rd December last year. Presumably he did it in a spare moment when he was not busy personally preventing a Christmas lockdown.

1.46 Truss, 3.15 Sunak – the market reckons it’s slipping away from him.

Christ. No one has ever considered that truss is self serving and self promoting ever

Truss is a leader of a faction and never the country. She reeks of that approach and is too keen to play up to that rotten base. She will lose next election because the public will sense that very quickly

Whatever views on Rishis policies he’s spoken to the country and easy to imagine him on the world stage.

Leaden truss would be a serious embarrassment

Absolutely right that rishi had a plan when tbe so called leader and by some margin the worst and most incompetent lightweight pm in living memory was clearly on borrowed time

    Would have expected nothing less

But at least he’s been consistent in views whereas dimwit truss changes her “convictions” at the drop of a hat with one eye on nothing at all other than her self promotion

Female Boris or not (and I’m no fan of her at all – not one bit) she’s got a huge lead in the latest poll of members and pollsters are already opining it’s too big a margin for Sunak to turn around within the timeframe.

She’s 1.45 now and it might just be that she already has an unassailable lead.

Plus The Mail is right behind her.

Kiers election to lose now surely ?

Whether it’s her fault or not but truss’s manner and communication is that of someone who is reading off a script and is sweating uncomfortably with subjects out of her comfort zone. There is no ease of explanation. It’s like she constantly reading off a cue card and not understanding a word of it.

That’s a nightmare for public perception.

And I will personally not go within a hundred miles of voting for a over achiever who has done no more than switch her “views” constantly to simply further her career

Like the office creep who bafflingly ends up in a senior role she will rightly be despised

Keir Starmer will be unable to believe his apparent impending luck – he will be praying Truss wins this.

She’s the absolute perfect opponent for labour.

A bollard would stand a better chance. Or a radish

Seriously you couldn’t actually design a more suitable candidate. For labour

I like kier anyway. He’s a serious politician. And that’s what we need

    ———————

As opposed to the Labour Party members who voted to make Marxist extreme Left winger Jeremy Corbyn their leader.

At different points polls of Conservative members have had Wallace and Mordaunt as their preferred candidate. Wallace is towards the centre of the party and Mordaunt on the left.

    Hope Conservative members vote Sunak.

Am surprised Labour are still odds against to win most seats at the next General Election.

    Have backed Labour @ 11/10.

I think that is right. If anything, Truss ought to be a shorter price.

Sunak has fallen into the age old trap. He who wields the dagger seldom if ever gets to wear the crown.

And truss had fallen into the trap of appealing only to the Alzheimer’s ridden party base.

A mistake which Hague made and admitted just this week. He looked ridiculous at the time and it was a waste of a decent talent

In fairness truss has no talent to waste
