One endeavours to be objective, despite one’s personal political views.
One never knows, one might set a trend!
Cheers, Wilts!
In other news – 1.51 Truss!
The Truss Bus is in motion!
The Sunak Kayak is frantically trying to keep up!
Out to 2.94!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 21, 2022 at 17:31 #1607990We may well elect a party to lead.
But it was ‘Boris delivered Brexit’, ‘Boris made the vaccine programme a success’ when they were all lining up to lick his boots on the way out. The contest too has been very personal. It’s all about the individual when it suits them.
I’d be interested to know as well how often ‘the government’ imposed lockdowns but ‘Boris’ lifted them. I have a fair idea.
July 21, 2022 at 18:01 #1607992It is astonishing that with all the amazing + talented people in England, the best they can come up with for Prime Minister is Liz Truss.
England is firmly Tory, so the rest of us will be stuck with her for yrs.
Possibly the best result for #indyref short of Johnson staying on.July 21, 2022 at 18:03 #1607993As Gladiateur observed, expectations are so low that all Liz Truss has to do is repeat her own name and supporters will be happy.
July 21, 2022 at 18:19 #1607996A few more twists and turns yet, over next 18 months or so.
As i stated in a post a while back the economy and everything associated will likely decide next GE.
There’s no Corbyn-factor next time to ‘worry’ Middle England; here in the South West (away from the big cities) the LDs will be looking to get back to pre-2015.
The Red Wall seats *may* actually take to Truss. Should be remembered that the Red Wall was being dismantled way before GE 2019. If u look at trends, which is v important, Labour was losing its grip in those seats from early 00s. I.e. share of vote for Lab was dropping over a number of elections. All to play for, as always in UK GEs.

This presupposes that everyone in the country aspires to being PM, or even in politics.
You can make infinitely more money – with infinitely less public scrutiny – in the private sector.
Among the privately educated, the smartest go into the private sector, the bang average go into politics to legislate in favour of the smartest and the dimmest train the racehorses owned by groups one and two!

Haven’t done since the 1950s.
Mind you, two thirds of us voted to remain as well.

Shame about the other third, we might not be in this mess then.
July 21, 2022 at 19:21 #1608004Channel 4 News reckon they have a damaging expose on Sunak….

I didn’t think it was THAT damaging, but it won’t have gone down too well with various non-Tories, particularly those who believe meritocracy should be extended to equal education opportunities for all.
Private education isn’t just about education, anyway – it’s also about networking.
The Betfair Exchange market seemed completely unmoved by it – 1.55 Truss, 2.82 Sunak.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 21, 2022 at 20:03 #1608006Imagine that anyone who watches Channel 4 News already knew that. Truss is thick as sh*t. It’s not a political opinion, it’s a fact. For that reason she’s the preferred candidate of the ERG as she will do what they say. No fan of Sunak but clinging to the slight hope that his immense wealth makes him more difficult to buy. That it’s come to this shows how broken our political system is. I despair.
July 21, 2022 at 20:05 #1608007Latest YouGov poll of Tory members has Truss on 62%, Sunak on 38% – that’s a gigantic TWENTY-FOUR point lead for “The Truss Bus.”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 21, 2022 at 20:15 #1608008Don’t despair, Tonge, I see Truss as our saviour.
Upon hearing Johnson described as the worst prime minister of all time, she surely cried: “I’m not having that! Hold my Prosecco!”
I have every confidence in a couple of years for the UK on “The Truss Bus” (I wonder if Tina Turner might be persuaded to re-release an old Classic and rename it “Truss Bus City Limits” just for me?) bringing Conservative rule to an end for a generation.
Or even longer.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 21, 2022 at 22:55 #1608014Still six weeks of this pantomime to go. I’ve got to switch off from it for a while. I hope the news outlets find something else to talk about too.
July 21, 2022 at 23:01 #1608015A perfectly understandable sentiment.
I’m kinda hooked on it – as is surely obvious here! – and haven’t watched the news so much in ages.
There aren’t the almost daily votes and eliminations now, but there’s still the two scheduled TV debates, the opinion polls and Betfair Exchange to keep me interested.
Plus the surreal state of play – the deficit-financing Thatcherite versus the fiscally-prudent Thatcherite with the barmy former one with a seemingly already unassailable advantage over the sane one.
Logically, intellectually, Sunak should not only narrow but eradicate the gap – but will he?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 22, 2022 at 00:13 #1608017There’s a far worse situation than this in Cardiff Bay where a Labour Plaid cartel can put through whatever nonsense they like because the electorate failed to recognise the value of an opposition even if you have to hold your nose to vote for it.
The pseudo Prime Minister elect will have only a short time before having to go to the country. Though any time at all would feel too long if it happens to be Sunak.
July 22, 2022 at 05:24 #1608019Listening to the Tory members it seems Truss promising immediate tax cuts is what is pushing her to Victory , while there have been many changes to the Tory party over the last few years esp Brexit it seems your old school Tory just doesn’t want taxed …heard a great fact yesterday , labour who were are told are the taxing party never had debt at more than 40% of GPD … Gordon Brown had it set in stone …..we are currently at 100% …..before Truss makes her cuts …it’s not our kids paying for this it’s the grandkids …don’t forget the suncream and wellies as well grandkids , we can’t afford to implement the required climate change controls
