Liz Truss has now deleted her tweet promising to "hit the ground from day one." pic.twitter.com/8YrBSxRoP7

Lol
July 20, 2022 at 20:36 #1607939Johnson beat Hunt with over 92,000 votes – 66% of the vote.
I do hope it’s a lot closer here – they only got 39% (Sunak) and 32% (Truss) of their own MPs’ backing today and a narrow win would give them the flimsiest, most unstable, of mandates from their own Party as PM.

Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
July 21, 2022 at 05:46 #1607951Personally I can’t stand the Tories. They’re full of empty promises and don’t give a damn about the lower classes, well all are full of empty promises.
Ginger has BBC news on 24/7 ,too much coverage of it on there,it’s enough to drive you loopy
July 21, 2022 at 07:32 #1607956If (when?) the polls of the wider electorate show Sunak as the most likely election winner of the two, you might see his odds shorten a bit. As has been stated before, the Tories are an election winning machine.
A vote for Truss is a vote for Labour in my opinion (or perhaps a coalition with the LDs).
July 21, 2022 at 08:31 #1607957Truss has just been interviewed on Radio 4.
The prospect of having her leading the country for at least the next two years is a frightening one; even Fishy Rishi would be better than her.
July 21, 2022 at 09:49 #1607959Unless I have misunderstood, if someone voted for Truss but then changed their mind, they could submit a vote for Sunak which would be counted, while their initial vote for Truss would be ignored
Thanks Corker; I’ve now had a look at the website myself and that would be understanding too, though it is a trifle ambiguous
All to play for then: Media hacks will be enjoying multiple orgasms throughout August
July 21, 2022 at 10:26 #1607963She was neither dazzling or bad on r4 this morning. She won’t be unhappy with that appearance
July 21, 2022 at 11:07 #1607965Truss back to 1.71 – the market obviously didn’t mind her radio interview.
All aboard the Truss bus?

A clear indication of just how low expectations are with this lot.
July 21, 2022 at 15:30 #1607981You’re either on The Truss Bus, or you’re in The Sunak Kayak.
Not that I’m trivialising it all.
Much.

July 21, 2022 at 15:49 #1607983It’s bad that again the nation has no say
They’re always going to vote for their chums. It’s nothing to do whether they’d be a good candidate.
When are we going to get a pm that comes from grass roots and anon millionaire who has a working knowledge of how it’s like to be skint , working your nuts off to feed yourself and not have the privilege of being born into a life of no financial worries and have a career path carved out for them.
Until then working people will get trodden on as we have for decades. They all make me sick
July 21, 2022 at 15:56 #1607985To be fair, the nation DID have a say.
In 2019.
They elected a Conservative government for a five-year term, regardless of who leads it.
Something to bear in mind for 2024 perhaps.

The media obsession with our leaders, over, say, last 40 years, has focussed the electorate on our leaders, when, in reality, the UK elects a party into government, not just a leader of a party.
As for a PM “from grass roots” (Jesse77) well, it depends if that person can actually lead and/or they have qualities needed to ‘lead’ an elected government. Otherwise, the whole “we need a PM from grass roots” theory falls at the first hurdle.
John Major was prob last “grass roots” PM – success or out of his depth? I’ll leave that up to ‘you’ to decide.
