Yep, Firefox, The Rutles’ stuff was mostly written by Neil Innes and Eric Idle.

Ta for posting the Dirty Fork sketch, Neil – proof positive that nobody can scream "You b*satards!!" and bury a cleaver in a table quite like Mr Cleese….

The very-excellent Rutles do not qualify as "Musical Comedy", as the music was not played for laughs.

Musicollogically and ethnically, the Rutles were essentially empirical melangistes of a rythmically radical, yet verbally passe, transcended lyrical content…………………..

Remember The Young Ones always had to incorporate a song into the programme to qualify for a bigger budget, not sure if that stll applies now. Must admit that I have never found Never Mind the Buzzcocks very amusing, and any sort of musical awards ceremony is always rather lacking in the humour department, musicians in general not being very funny.

I’m definitely in the sh*te camp here, good thread Grass.

I have only ever seen one funny song, I think it was Spike Milligan ‘Walking backwards for Christmas’. I say seen here because it would have been sh*te to listen to it, but the film is hilarious.
