So, I’ve been following horse racing as a hobby for quite a while now, but lately I’ve been getting more seriously supportive of the sport. Anyway, long story short, I’m new at this betting malarkey, and after research on this site and others, realise that I am useless. So I will pick a few selections of my own for today, and give reasoning, and if any could spare a moment to comment and tell me what I’m doing right/wrong?

    13:45 Alex Scott Maiden Stakes – Newmarket – Tawtheeq @ (14/1) 1pt E/W

Looking through the list of Horses, the only form I can see is a 2nd on Estifzaaz, though he then ended the year finishing 7 lengths off the pace, weakening at the last furlong. Tawtheeq (unless I have seriously gone wrong) comes from the same Sire as Fieldgunner Kirkup, West Leake and Oddysey, who are all winners at this decent, especially West Leake who’s form is very consistent. I’m hoping that this is relevant information to gather as there is no form to go on, but we shall see.

That’s the only selection I’ll put up. If I’m looking for the wrong things, or going about this wrong could somebody please give advice?

    Regards.

Good luck El. As you are looking for pointers. The horse has issues with its knees, and if you look at the colour of the horses silks, you will see that they’re the same as another horse in the race called Estizfaaz as they are owned by the same person. However, your horse is wearing a black hat with indicates that its the owners 2nd string in the race. Other horses also have course experience, so it was maybe a horse to avoid for a couple of reasons. This type of race can be difficult unless you know something. It’s also difficult to discount his rivals as some improve enormously after one run. I tend to avoid these types of races.

Ah I see thank you. Finished 7th in the end. Was there a way you can find out past history like that? I.e injuries, weak knees etc? Or is it just down to experience.

But thanks for the tips, I’ll take them on board and have gone for

    Wyldfire @ (7/2) in the 14:40

    next.

When i saw that you wanted an opinion, i checked the trainers website and he mentioned the knees and that they weren’t expecting it to do much today. Horses usually start their career at 2, so as this horse was having his first run at 3 you would have to think there’s a reason for that.

Ah I see, easy when you know how then!

    Wyldfire placed.

Despite my poor attempt today, I did manage to finish with a L15 returning £198 from Kempton tonight. (That was thanks to hovis, I take no credit whatsoever). So I will use the profit for selections tomorrow to try again.

    14:55 Newmarket – The Gatling Boy @ 16/1 (betvictor)

Was very impressed with his performance in a 6f Maiden Stakes back in August, where he kept on the toes of the leader from the beginning, before coming up the hill strongly to lead and held off others approaching the posts. Jockey booking (Richard Hughes) is a positive, added to the fact that all 4 previous winners of this race have been at 9-3. (Nothing conclusive as a number of horses were/are racing off this weight, but there are lesser weighted horses too).

I’m hoping the extra 4 furlongs don’t warrant too much of a problem, as I believe he can stay much further than 6f, but I guess I’ll wait and see.

So, it appears my optimism was again short lived as The Gatling Boy couldn’t stay on and finished 9th. I’ll keep him in the notepad for future racing, but he was outclassed and struggling here. I’ve decided I’ll just pick 2 horses per day as my NAP and NB, and possibly an outsider if I feel it has a chance. Focus on the Ayr racing today.

    So, here is today’s NAP:

    1:10 Ayr – Discovery Bay – 6/5 (William Hill)

Very impressive 12 length winner at Wetherby last week, slowing to a canter in the closing stages. Plenty more to come from him and I expect a win today. On a hat-trick, and provided he handles the ground, he will win. I got him at 6/5 earlier, though I believe he’s at evens now.

    And my NB:

    2:10 Ayr – Seymour Eric – 10/3 (William Hill)

I’ve been following Seymour for a while, and he’s always come up trumps for me when needed. I just don’t think the heavy ground today will bother him, and he is proven over this trip; that, for me, has given him the edge. Missed out on a 5 timer, but I think he will get back to the winner’s enclosure today.

Also, I will just declare my stakes as I don’t really have a point system setup, so until I do..

    Discovery Bay – £20 Win
    Seymour Eric – £20 Win

    Occasionally Yours
    Seymour Eric
    Sustainability
    Discovery Bay

    0.80p L15 (£12.00)

    Going at Ayr now Soft.

Can do no harm to Discovery, even more confident now. Still confident on Seymour Eric, hoping for a big ride though.

Well in. Apparently it kept on finding.

Thanks, bit better than yesterday! Unlucky about Discovery, dreadful error at the last and had no chance catching Ballybogey, however he kept going and was very brave I feel.

Seymour just as I expected, figured it was almost a certainty as he took the lead early on, watching the race I knew he’d find more in the closing stages.

    Still, not a bad day.

    Discovery Bay £20 Win

    Seymour Eric £20 Win

    Won

No bets for the last week or so, but payday has come around and all the bills are paid! So here we go.

Only really looked at Kelso for tomorrow, and I’ll start with the 15:10.

    15:10 Kelso – What a Steel

    11’s w/Bet365

Consistent sort, who seems to like it here. Running off the same sort of mark as LTO, which was last november, but I’m not too worried about how long he’s had off. Does well this time of year, and has won from fresh before (at Kelso infact).

He’ll do for me, I do like Arctic Court though, but I don’t think I’ll take 7/2 in a race like this, especially when he opened just hours ago at 6’s.

    What a Steel – £10 e/w

    Purcell’s Bridge

    15/2 (min 7/1)(Coral)

Winner over this distance before, and dropped back down to it after recent attempts over further (1-3 over further). Should be in the running in my eyes.

    £10 win.

What a Steel was withdrawn prior to the race, and Purcell’s Bridge fell.

2 more for me today I think. Post one now, and I’ll have another stab at tonight’s racing I think.

No time for a write up, but:

    Wolverhampton 3:50 – Honey of a Kitten

    13/2 (BetVictor)

Sod it, work is dead and I’m bored as f%%k!

Like the look of Equity Risk at Wolves today, races in the 4:50. Won over C&D in November last year, and even with minimal improvement, has strong claims to take this IMO.

    Wolves 4:50 – Equity Risk (4/1)

    also

    Wolves 4:50 – Hannah’s Turn (10/1)

Hannah’s Turn nowhere to be seen, Equity Risk 2nd.

    +£80

    That’s it for today.

    Back again.

Today’s selection comes from the 16:50 at Lingfield. Skytrain gets the nod from me. C/D winner, and always in the running, especially being placed or a winner over the last 6 outings. Fanning/Johnston combination and a price that I feel is great value, if only for a place.

    16:50 Lingfield – Skytrain 12/1 (StanJames)

This one will do for me.

    Good luck with your bets!
