You are @IanDavies and I claim my five pounds.
September 25, 2022 at 19:58 #1615931If this happens again please be advised that ITV4 is indeed available on Freeview – Channel 26.
This is worth knowing even if only for the daily repeats of old The Sweeney and Minder episodes

A massively informative posting – duly noted!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 25, 2022 at 21:33 #1615942That’s only the start. There’s also The Protectors, The Saint and now Magnum P.I. Used to be The Professionals too but that seems to have finished.
September 25, 2022 at 21:43 #1615944Not actually a Minder fan, but loved The Sweeney and The Saint.

Running the Royal Lodge at Newmarket is just wrong. It belongs at Ascot.
September 26, 2022 at 07:31 #1615961“Spectators leave Epsom after the Derby, or football matches early.
It happens”
But it shouldn’t happen!! You don’t the leave the pictures before the film has finished or walk out the theatre before the curtain comes up.
I was at Hampden for a superb Scottish performance last Wednesday. As soon as the third goal went in people started drifting off with the result that when the players went round the pitch to applaud the fans and take the supporters acclaim they were greeted with half empty stands.
Did my nut in.
September 26, 2022 at 07:58 #1615962I hear what you say patriot but to take Epsom as an example, here are the choices:
Leave after the Derby and have a leisurely stroll back into Epsom where I can have a quiet pint before walking straight into Epsom station and getting a train home when they are nice and quiet
Or
Stay until the last race, leave at the same time as everyone else, have to queue up to get into the station and then have the pleasure of sharing the train with an assortment of braying idiots, shouting and boozed up louts and shrieking young women who can barely stand upright.
I think it is worth missing a race or two.
September 26, 2022 at 08:23 #1615964I don’t think you can put it any better than that. Take a look at the pubs anywhere near the vicinity of a big race meeting at 10am, a lot of people have been boozing for 8 hours by the time the last comes around.
September 26, 2022 at 10:10 #1615971Epsom for a tenner (paid for on R4R) was my last day at the races for 2022.
I drove there and back, thus avoiding the worst thing about public transport – the public.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 26, 2022 at 12:06 #1615975I’m the opposite Cork..I remain behind at the races, large coffee in hand, watching the jockeys going home in their day clothes and trying to name the more obscure ones with my friends until virtually every last soul has left the building..we then walk to the almost empty car park watching the last few horses being loaded into their horse boxes and exit the course within minutes rather than the stop start 15 minutes plus it can often take. Total madness..probably but I just love every aspect of a day at the races and if I’d have left after the Cambridgeshire on Saturday I would have left minus 3 nice winners.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 26, 2022 at 13:10 #1615978Shame the ROR parade wasn’t better publicised, don’t think ITV4 mentioned it at all ?
Nick Luck did at least do a 5 minute interview with Di Arbuthnot for RUK, and all 6 horses got a mention, Limato obviously the most well known and he looked exceptionally well. Saint Gregoire who is now doing dressage at Prix St George level also looked stunning, lovely to see them all doing well in different disciplines

I always leave after stealing the last of Richard’s cocaine and nicking his Peaky Blinders hat for good measure.
Both are invariably on eBay before dark.
