August 28, 2009 at 09:29 #246185Bud, you do realise they have jump racing in the States? Obviously nowhere near on the scale of what you see in Ireland, Gb and France, or with the quality of animals and level of professionalism, but it does have a loyal and devoted following, mostly in the mid-Atlantic region.
There was a big midsummer jumps race yesterday at Saratoga, the Turf Writers Handicap, 2m3f over National fences (a type of plastic brush fence) for $100k.You can watch replays of many US jumps meets here… http://www.nationalsteeplechase.com/vid … chive.html

Bud, the 1965 Grand national winner was a horse called Jay Trump who was three times winner of the great Americal timber race The Maryland Hunt Cup. It took me a long time to forgive him for beating my beloved Freddie, the gallant chaser from the Scottish Borders who was twice second under big weights.
Jay Trump came over her for the winter and is officially designated as trained at Lambourn by Fred Winter the great jockey who became one of the great trainers. His jockey was American Amateur Tommy Smith. He lived a long and happy life, I believe he was 34 when he died.
The race is on You Tube and the British Pathe website.
August 29, 2009 at 06:47 #246311That is one heck of a cool story.I will for certain have a look at that..
I notice you reside in ENFIELD—-Do I have sweet sport memories about Enfield. Enfield Connecticut—A far distance from Enfield in the United Kingdom.
Thank you
