Strange one for me this, but as Champagne Classic had become one of my biggest Antepost bets ever for Cheltenham, I’ve laid off for a relatively decent profit.
After The Gold Cup, this is my biggest betting race along with The Kim Muir, so I’ve taken the money and ran, well at least till NRNB.
I’ve banged on about Champagne Classic for three years now, but for a horse who’s been hard to keep sound, it just made sense to me.
He’s still my idea of the winner, but I’ll happily bet him (hopefully) 7’s, 8’s NRNB, with the money I’ve just taken, with the security of that NRNB. If it’s lower than that, which certainly isn’t out of the question, then I’ll take that on the chin.
There’s also the real possibility that he’ll head for Grand National. Elliott has obviously went to Cheltenham, en route to Aintree with a few, most notably Tiger Roll, but every horse is different, and who knows what the plan will be. There’s also the outside chance he could be RSA bound.
Who knows, but I’m happy to sit and wait with an early profit.
December 30, 2019 at 11:45 #1478523Happy to see Early Doors entered up and declared over 3m1 tomorrow at Punchestown.
Besides Dickie Diver who is very unlikely to get qualified for this he looks the obvious JP angle.
33s taken now.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 30, 2019 at 14:56 #1478537Sam spinner out for the season
December 30, 2019 at 17:33 #1478546Jack, going to join you with Early Doors, and hopefully it’ll be a similar plan as I did with Champagne Classic.
December 31, 2019 at 12:24 #1478609I too done Early Doors. The run today was encouraging with a view to this I thought.
January 1, 2020 at 11:39 #1478658Agree Mike the incident caused him problems and he finished off well enough. Didn’t need to win yesterday for me to remain convinced he’ll rock up here with a crack amateur on and go off single figures.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 12, 2020 at 15:14 #1479640Mullins appeared to indicate that Carefully Selected will be aimed at this, although the RSA option will be kept open.
January 12, 2020 at 15:42 #1479646I was quite suprised he suggested this is the target, He looks like he could win the RSA
January 12, 2020 at 15:56 #1479651Didnt think much of his jumping
Champagne classic would take half a length off him at every fence
January 13, 2020 at 09:20 #1479685They are at different stages of their careers though. Classic has had a fair few more chase starts. Carefully Selected has a big engine + if going here will get away with jumping safer at the slower pace. Whether that means he’s good enough to beat classic or not is another thing. I personally think he very much would be.
Yesterday’s run was all about the experience as he’s very light there. He did it well over a trip probably too short. Some have said the others didn’t try….Speak Easy was certainly trying before he fell and he’s a decent yardstick.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 13, 2020 at 09:42 #1479686I wouldn’t want CS in front anywhere other than after the last as he’s made mistakes, looked ponderous and slowed into his fences when leading.
I think they’ll go here now unless the RSA cuts up
January 13, 2020 at 12:16 #1479698Carefully Selected is not yet eligible for this race I believe
January 13, 2020 at 13:10 #1479705Needs a run over 3 TWM which is why the ten up and a few other races have been mentioned

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 22, 2020 at 20:10 #1480538A little blue on oddschecker for Early Doors. I’ve added another point on him. Personally think right now, he could be one of the best bets of the festival with a view to shortening up.
Probably hasn’t the actual class of the other two but he has:Form at the track
Qualified for the race
JP owned- that i can see the only one that is likely to get there
Likely to have a crack amateur on because of owner/trainer
Qualified- Carefully Selected still needs to do thatTwitter: Jackh1092

I suppose it’s no certainty but he was staying on at Galway + more recently didn’t look a non-stayer over 3m1 when impeded badly?
If it was a complete bog i’d worry more, but i’d like to think he’d be given a ride by one of the top amateurs probably DOC + produced at the business end if all went to plan. He might not win all the same as the front 2 are potentially very classy animals but the 33s just screams shortener to me!
