ToneLoc just came up with an excellent point in a message to me.

I probably had a far better Arc day than ANYONE on TRF.

Hopper – putting aside your hatred for the flat, what would you prefer? Being crammed like a sardine into the grandstand with thousands of screaming Japanese fans, having no space to sit down in, and having your view obscured by waving flags and cameras, or would you prefer to sit down on a proper seat, along with some of the biggest names in horse racing?

I’ve got a 2006 Arc programme signed by many ‘titans of the turf’, and is doubtless to be worth something in 20-30 years time, especially if the ‘b*stard’ Take signs it should he not be offended beyond reason by my comment.

I’ve got around 60 photos and 2 videos, both on the racetrack and in the parade ring, some of which are excellent. I can get a couple of the photos signed by those featured in it (maybe the connections will sign on behalf of their four-legged friend). I got to see some fantastic horses up close and personal, and I appeared on TV 4-5 times.

I learned a lot about Japanese racing while I was there, not to mention the day was helped by the fact it was 5 times as good as my trip last year. And all the above are worth so much to me.

Maybe one day one of you guys on TRF will have a sh*t day at the races, miss your train to get back home, and be stuck in the dark and pouring rain without a coat for 30 minutes. Maybe THEN, one of you guys would kill to have a day like mine.

So thank you ToneLoc for reminding me of that.

No, I didn’t know he went to Longchamp last week. Damn, must have missed him…

jackane24-if you don’t want that tag-why not change it to… TRF’s most famous t0sser-that would be more apt.

What is your ‘name’ on betfair? I’ve been looking on there and trying to guess, but as it is wall-to-wall t0ssers i can’t work out which one you are.:(

We all know that Racing Post columnists are unlikely to provide us with anything hard-hitting, challenging or interesting these days.

<br>Exactly, you might as well buy the Dandy or Beano

BTW, are those comics still in print?

I would disagree you had a better Arc day than me, I got up about 10-30, perused the newspapers for a couple of hours, went to the pub for lunch had four pints of strongbow, soup of the day and roast beef and yorkshire pudding then went home and watched the Arc on television.

I think most people will agree that is a far better way to spend your day than finding yourself in the same camera shot as Rishi Persad.

On the contrary, such memorable experiences are what make attending NH meetings after GMT resumes so character building, if fleetingly soul destroying. Given the weather forecast an early taste of the joys of racing in backend gloom and horizontal rain carried in on a stiff westerly will be had tomorrow at Wetherby. Roll on.

Seriously, Arc weekend is jolly good fun Jackane and like most things something that should be tried at least once. If you go again take Eurostar; it’s as enjoyable as Longchamp itself and you may bump into Mac in the buffet car.

A most entertaining thread and a nomination for ‘word of the year’ goes to Grasshopper with ‘refulgent’

Zorro can call me a b*stard in the RP everyday of the week if perchance I meet D. Wayne Lukas at the Breeders Cup!

Funnily enough I actually met D.Wayne Lukas at last year’s breeders cup. It was on the friday in the Belmont Room Hospitality Suite and he was there with his family. Signed our racecards and was a thoroughly nice bloke. Of course we all had to back Folklore in the Juvenile Fillies the next day who obliged. A good day was had by all.

You haven’t lived racing until you’ve tried taking notes at a meeting at a Cartmel – or if you swing that way like me a point-to-point at a Thorpe Lodge or Upper Sapey – in a driving storm, with your notebook rapidly turning to papier mache, and the rain on your lens reducing the view through your bins to something akin to peering through a stained glass window.

I look forward to many such instances of the above in the forthcoming seven or eight months.

<br>Yep, just about. The Dandy has revamped itself as a more streetwise publication by the looks of it, but with what level of success I know not.

Blimey, a proper Sunday lunch washed down with half a gallon of cider would see me prostrate in the land of nod nowadays until woken by the always comforting theme of the Antiques Roadshow, accompanied by those once familiar post-binge thoughts ‘who am I, where am I, what day is it’

That’s just for starters for DJ, a man who could run William Haigh close in the binge-drinking stakes.

And dont forget having your car towed out of the s**t
by a large Ursus at the end of the day…or of course the friendly cameraderie of having to heave somebody elses vehicle out of the s**t
if the large Ursus is otherwise occupied.  Bet you didnt see that at Longchamp Jackane….

    I love P-to P ing.
