The deaths of snooker player Paul Hunter, ‘Hoh’ owner David Allport who jumped in front of a train and even Royal Proposal in a freak accident at Leicester today kind of put the degeneration of this thread into perspective.
October 10, 2006 at 18:37 #97109I can take or leave Zorro’s articles – some I find amusing and informative, others poorly written.
When all is said and done, the article was a cheap and lazy way of filling space in the RP, reproducing Jackane’s post and using a position as a national newspaper journo to rubbish him. The space could have been used to publish an original piece about serious issues in racing.
If I wanted to read serious satire, I’d buy Private Eye, which at least takes on world leaders and the great and the good- not a name dropping, boastful 18 year old who may or may not be a fantasist.
Perhaps we expect too much of the RP in general as it returns to its monopoly position in specialist racing newspapers with the collapse of The Sportsman. It is after all owned by Trinity Mirror so may well aspire to red top tabloid standards.
As for those posters who found the article "hilarious", I am uncomfortable with those cruel people who delight in others being publically embarrassed or humiliated. I can imagine some of these people in a previous incarnation pelting prisoners in the stocks with rotten fruit or jostling one another for the best view of a public execution.

And I’m sure Paul Hague has enjoyed a snifter or seven too; in the company of the addled Alastair I expect.

Do they? I don’t agree.
October 10, 2006 at 21:13 #97113Would rather that the RF had been plugged in a different way….
Ie one of my super threads :cheesy:
Jackane…think u may find the journalistic world is full of boozy "bird banging" (although i dont want pictorial proof thank you) back-stabbing, mean minded, egotisical pricks
and apart from Zorro the others arent too nice either (sorry, just teasing, zorro…:cheesy: )
But do you think your ready for it?
Do you think you could end up interviewing Fabre with Carson, surrrounded by japanese racing fans ? :o
October 10, 2006 at 21:44 #97114I suggested a weekly forum round-up to the Editor of the Racing Post in July 2004.
I pointed out that, human nature being as it is, the chance of having one’s name in a paper tended to lead one to buy said paper.
It would appear that he was not taken with the idea.
October 10, 2006 at 21:48 #97115Funnily enough I have, over the last few days, been exchanging e-mails with the RP on this very subject. I think it’s a great idea and, hopefully, I might get someone to agree with me/us in the end!
October 10, 2006 at 22:03 #97116It’s less about getting ones name in the paper, Pru, and more about the Post being able to go to print with some potentially contentious (and therefore interesting) copy – all the while being able to disassociate themselves from the content.
Those are tactics I have used myself from time to time…
October 10, 2006 at 22:23 #97117‘Cormack’s Claptrap’ Grass?
October 10, 2006 at 22:48 #97118The word is dissociate, not disassociate.
October 10, 2006 at 22:54 #97119I think an RP forum’s a winner.
It would attract a better type of mentalist.
I mean, I’m in the west wing playing billiards dressesd as Zsa Zsa Gabor as it is…

October 10, 2006 at 23:11 #97120While the attention-seekers (no names) are likely to rise to the challenge, is it possible that some others will go into their shells if they think they may get quoted in the Post?
One has to have standards, after all…..
October 10, 2006 at 23:35 #97121Correct Pru
One does need standards and associating TRF with the RP is lowering the standard of this forum
Anyway, we should be discussing the relevant racing topics that their writers are writing about (if they can be bothered with such topics) not providing them with space filling material

Well he is 82. Dodgy pins and a weak bladder are an unfortunate combination.
