Current Ante-Post Price (Paddy Power)
Again 15-8
Shimah 3-1
Cuis Ghaire 6-1
Baileys Cacao 6-1
Sugar Free 8-1
Rare Ransom 10-1
Beyond Our Reach 12-1
Danidh Dubai 16-1
Dreamtheimpossible 20-1
Marquesa 20-1
Aaroness 25-1
Miss Puss 25-1
Marina Of Venice 25-1
Hello Bunclody 66-1
Beauthea 150-1
Solasi 200-1
Bay Swallow 500-1Looks like a pretty good race to me on what seems to be a top class racing Sunday at the Curragh, weather pending of course.
At the moment I may be tempted to take a risk on Cuis Ghaire at 6-1 purely on the basis that I think Jim Bolger wouldnt send this filly out again in a Group race so soon unless he thought she had a pretty good chance.
Cuis Ghaire run a very under-par race at Leopardstown a few weeks back and was of course beaten by Wachman’s Again
But then again, that’s the same reason I bet on New Approach last week so I may yet do a U-turn on that. Shimah is also interesting at 3-1 for me after two 3L & 4L wins at 6f in June. A step up in trip and a step up in company too.I can’t be tempted at all to take Again on at 15-8 albeit the step down in company and the stable being in form with their 2yo’s. However, being the open race that this is that may change before Sunday.
All in all, a reasonably interesting race here and if Cuis Ghaire fails to impress she will go the same way as Intense Focus has this year and fall completely out of the picture.[/b]
August 26, 2008 at 23:06 #178304I wouldn’t back Cuis Ghaire with stolen money after her last run. Bolger will bugger her up just like Finsceal Beo if he runs her again on Sunday, especially as the ground is almost certain to be against her again. She needs a break and to run on decent ground next time or be put away until next season.

That’s a massive leap of faith IMO. Bolger has continually over-raced his top-class fillies (Finsceal Beo and Alexander Goldrun) and Cuis Ghaire look over-the-top to me; in fact, she looked over the top behind Rip Van Winkle at Leopardstown and this will be her second start since.
Again looks solid here. Won the key trial in impressive fashion, proven at the track, handles any ground and has a turn-of-foot. 9/4 may not be the worst price in the world. You’d have to respect Shimah but I don’t like the fact she’s been off since June and she’s not bred to appreciate this extra furlong. Weld’s decision to enter Luminous Eyes in the 6f race on the same card is one of the stranger bits of placing I’ve seen this year – she is surely a better contender than stablemate Rare Ransom who is held by Again.

Apologies for deviating a little, but I’ve never subscribed to this Finsceal Beo being over-raced theory. She had 5 races as a 2yo, 6 at 3, and 5 this season, which isn’t a lot, even by gp1 stanfards.
Much of the reason behind this theory is her 3 Guinea’s runs in 15 days last season but, as she won 2 and was 2nd in the other, that remains unconvincing. Badly placed in my view – as a horse that barely stays a mile – in respect of both distance and ground.
Ironically, JB’s quest to prove she stays more than a mile may finally be ‘vindicated’ at this meeting, where she takes an enormous drop in class to listed company, and the ground might just dry out enough for her to last home the full 9 furlongs.August 27, 2008 at 08:00 #178325

Shimah 3-1 is what I call value !
August 27, 2008 at 12:44 #178342Marina Of Venice would interest me at those odds if she lines up. She looked very promising on her debut and I can’t believe she gave her running last time out.
August 28, 2008 at 12:06 #178431Just checked the latest entries……….
O’Brien has nothing entered……….has he not got any decent two year old fillies ?

No…
He’s got a great set of 2yo colts. The best filly the coolmore boys have is the favourite but she’s with Wachman..
August 28, 2008 at 14:20 #178441Having said that he had what looked like a poor crop last year and they’ve still managed to pick up a few classics between them in their homeland.
August 29, 2008 at 01:43 #178515Since when has Aidan O’Brien been turning out great 2YO fillies? Isn’t this just the norm?
August 29, 2008 at 14:41 #178554Good point Myles. He does tend to take his time more with the fillies..
Anyway, i’ve banged on about her enough but I think Shimah will win this and 3/1 is a nice price about her.. Hopefully the ground will be good at least and if it is she should have too much toe for again. She will need further or softer ground to beat Shimah.
August 29, 2008 at 17:12 #178574Cuis Ghaire taken out of this now.

Shimah 3.75 to win this and should be more like 2.5. Also 1.51 to place is buying money and I should have a field day here.
Good luck fellas
August 31, 2008 at 11:59 #178708Shimah looks to have the beating of Again on a form line through Luminous Eyes and looks good value .
August 31, 2008 at 12:08 #178710Can’t see Shimah staying the trip, Again should prevail with Red Ransom to finish second.

August 31, 2008 at 12:57 #178716I like Again for this but Marina Of Venice looks big at 5/1 a place to me

Not far wrong.. Both very good fillies.. McDonogh obviously decided he was going to follow the favourite which resulted in a lack of racing room mid race.. Shimah may have got closer with a clearer run and better ground (Although it didn’t look that bad and it was probably gd-sft as opposed to soft). Little between them at this stage but you would imagine their career’s will take different paths during their classic year.
The Bolger filly did it well on her debut in the G3 earlier on the card as well.
