Apparently Barry Connell has bought Mossey Joe for £160,000. MJ looked the best hunter I’d seen for years when winning in Stratford last year, but £160 K for an 11-yr-old hunter?
January 26, 2014 at 17:58 #466146I suppose it depends how much money you have and what you want to enjoy with it, you could spend that on a yearling and it be no good or not even run.
He’s a grand horse and going to run in the Grand National apparently, if he finishes in the first two the purchase price plus some will be recouped.
January 26, 2014 at 18:53 #466148It’s absolutely insane money, but you’d be mad to turn it down for your 11-year-old hunter chaser – even with Mr Connell’s iffy equine welfare record.
I’m a big Mossey Joe fan though. He could go close in the National if the handicapper isn’t too savage.
January 26, 2014 at 19:35 #466154Just to clarify, this wasn’t an offer made to the owners – the horse was entered for the auction at Cheltenham racecourse held after racing yesterday.

Is it true he goes to Edna Bolger?

Cheltenham then Aintree or just Aintree?
And if both, will Aintree be the main target with Cheltenham more of a "try our luck" race? Or will they think he has a proper chance in both?
Would like to back him in March but always dangerous when a race isn’t the main target.

Cheltenham would be his best chance of a win so I’d say he’ll be all systems go for that.

Thanks, his odds for the festival could be a lot worse then.
