Sizing Europe’s first race of the season then this one.
What a good field it looks to be too.
Will be interesting to see if connections leave Brace Inca to run over 2miles rather than 2miles 4 at Fairyhouse later in the month.
Jered and Cork All Star to meet again.
November 7, 2008 at 00:51 #188445Could see this cutting up into a very small but select field. Cuan Na Graí and Won In The Dark are both in the Greatwood, Harchi will probably go to Newcastle and I would imagine that Noel will keep Aitmatov for the Hattons Grace rather than running against Jered.
Gaz, would be surprised if Cork All Star and Jered were to clash again. Jessie said this week that he’s going to be schooled over fences and that novice chasing is very much on the cards. Hope he jumps fences better than he jumps hurdles.

Jered has the benefit of a run but Sizing Europe will be mighty hard to beat if he reproduces his AIG form.

Ah thank you my friend, i missed Jessie saying that.
I would agree that they will send Harchi to the Fighting Fifth again no doubt, and Aitmatov will go to Fairyhouse at the end of the month, but i would imagine that Paul Nicholls will keep at least one of Pierrot Lunaire or Five Dream in there, unless he too, decides to send one or both to Newcastle for the Fighting Fifth.
However, that said, Celestial Halo is going in the Fighting Fifth so adding the above 2 may not be in his plans.
November 7, 2008 at 01:59 #188457Have you dropped Sizing Europe from your post-AIG 178 rating then, Marb?

I’m only pulling yer leg, by the way.
November 7, 2008 at 03:13 #188478(and bearing in mind how adamant John Francome was he should go chasing)
Yes, i think he may have mentioned it once or twice.
November 7, 2008 at 03:37 #188488The whole controversy about his jumping was massively overdone- nobody could possibly say it was jumping that cost him the Champion Hurdle. The back injury thing is plausible but I don’t like giving horses second chances up the Cheltenham hill, for all that it will be fascinating to see how he gets on this season.
November 7, 2008 at 04:56 #188500Provided the ground is not too soft, Jered should win this. Won in the dark would be my e/w shout following a decent re-appearance on the flat. I think Won in the dark may need further however.

There was a rumuor doing the rounds after Cheltenham that he bled quite badly in the Champion Hurdle. Not sure how much merit the particular explanation holds, but it certainly seems plausible.

€65,000.00 ( 2m – 4yo+ )-2p-4 1 Cuan Na Grai (PNolan) – . ………………(135)
12-04 2 Harchibald (FR) (NMeade) – . …………(160)
22-20 3 Hardy Eustace (DTHughes) – …………(160)
-1111 4 Jered (NMeade) – ………………………….(158)
f1-10 5 Sizing Europe (Hde Bromhead) – ……(167)
1-231 6 Won In The Dark (SJHarty) – ………….(135)Six left in for the big one on Sunday. Paddy Power have Jered as their 11/10 fav with Sizing Europe at 7/4. Henry De Bromhead quoted today that Sizing Europe will come on for the run. Noel reported that there would have to be a big improvement in the ground for Harchibald to run, but the plan is for Jered to take his chance.
November 11, 2008 at 23:54 #189263Unless the weather picks up dramatically you can expect very testing conditions- it hasn’t stopped raining here since the Guineas.
November 12, 2008 at 00:39 #189273Harchibald needs very good ground to be anywhere near his best, so i think it is almost certain that he wont run.
November 12, 2008 at 00:44 #189274The only thing that can beat JERED is Heavy ground! There is no horse better on Good ground!
November 12, 2008 at 04:31 #189320The ground was plenty soft enough at Down Royal the last day and he handled it ok.
November 12, 2008 at 04:48 #189322Think Jered has such a chance, as he looks the best all rounder to me, ground may be an issue, but doubt it.
However, it is much too soon to right off sizing europe, where he was in relation to the slow pace gave him no chance on the merits of how he won the AIG, there are other feasible reasons, which have been given such as injury, which are acceptible but i thought he had no chance at cheltenham, and he clearly looked a decent horse going there.
Woninthedark was a big favorite of mine in the run up to cheltenham as was convinced he would turn around his earlier defeats at a more decent pace, but it’s still worth remembering that he is far from top class at slow paces, however I think that although there isnt a huge field for this, most of those that are there want pace, and so he could get right into the mix.
November 13, 2008 at 04:48 #189506So you give a chance to the first 3 in the betting when it’s 16s bar in a six horse field then Bulwark- h’mmm, controversial….
November 13, 2008 at 05:25 #189512Hadnt seen the betting, when wrote that, they probably have the race priced up about right, would want a better price on won in the dark to play him e/w so it would probably be one of the other two.
