July 17, 2010 at 12:26 #306980Happy holidays, Monkerhostin; many fond memories of the old boy.
July 17, 2010 at 13:07 #306982I am really pleased to hear that he has been allowed to bow out gracefully and in one piece.
A thoroughly likeable horse who was as brave as anything. Saw him win at Sandown in February I think it was, and even after all his hard races, be really tried his best all the way to the line.
I hope he has a happy and healthy retirement. Well done to the connectionsJuly 17, 2010 at 19:19 #307022I would like to record that I hate Monkerhostin like I’ve never hated another horse. Ever. Period.
Reason?
2004 Coral Cup- I was on Court Shareef at 200-1. From that day to this, I’ve had a Ouija Doll named Monkerhostin.
Joking aside- super horse, well deserved retirement.

I’ll tell you someone else that’ll be glad to see the back of him; the Scoop6 ticket holder back in February who had Exmoor Ranger & got caught by Monkerhostin in the final stride!
An excellent horse who I wish a long & happy retirement.
July 17, 2010 at 21:56 #307035One of my favourite ever horses, a cracking horse, he’ll be sorely missed. Having said that, very happy to see him retire safe and sound.
July 18, 2010 at 06:32 #307051He’s given lots of pleasure in his time. Let’s hope he enjoys the rest of his life.
July 18, 2010 at 10:19 #307074The coral cup win was my biggest ever

But thats not the point. a wonderfully game and versatile horse and a perfect example of why many people are more drawn towards NH rather than the cold world of flat racing
July 18, 2010 at 11:33 #307087Long and happy retirement to him.
Just watching ATR just now and they showed footage of him beating Kauto Star at Exeter some years back. What surprised mye was that Best Mate was also in the line up (sadly, his final race). Best Mate Vs Kauto Star – it did happen.
Here’s one for anyone with not a lot on today.
What’s the shortest collateral form line between Imperial Commander and Arkle?
