Does anyone know of an internet radio link so I can listen to the race and the build up to it. I used to stay up listening to Radio Sport but can’t seem to get it now.

Where do you live Moehat?
Isn’t there one of us TRFers you can go and watch it live on At The Races with?Value Is EverythingOctober 17, 2013 at 11:07 #455152I live in Derby, Ginge. I did find it on the radio last year
but it was touch and go leading up to it. I quite like listening to it on the radio as I’ve always listened to the race itself on R5 but the run up to it is such fun; all the gossip and talk [‘there’s a lot of precipitation’ today was one comment last year]. I kind of imagine I’m in the outback listening to it on a crackly radio!
October 17, 2013 at 11:17 #455155There are a few sites online that show ATR but they are hit and misses and tend to go off at certain times, so if they’d show the melbourne cup or not I’m not sure.
Anyway they are TykesTV and WizWig.

You paint a pretty picture Mo, I like your style
I would be surprised if they did not have it on one of the channels here http://www.abc.net.au/melbourne/ come race day, but I don’t know for sure. I’ve tested it and you can tune in on the net, it says you may have to download an app, but I didn’t have to.
I also found this link,
http://www.abc.net.au/local/players/int … 20Coveragewhich was the previous commentary of the Melbourne Cup on that channel, so again I can’t think of any reason why they wouldn’t be live this year again.
Best of luck if you have a fancy in it…..hope you can find a bookie in the outback if you do
October 17, 2013 at 16:44 #455187Thanks BigG. I still remember listening to Persian Punch get placed one year. Sometimes listening on the radio is more exciting that watching on the telly! For years I’ve crawled into work on the Tuesday morning after being up all night listening to Radio Sport but now I’ve retired it doesn’t matter how tired I am the next day. I probably worked at the only medical centre in the country that used to give out racing tips or have patients come in after big races to tell me they’d backed the winner of a big race!
October 17, 2013 at 19:41 #455212Moehat,
Five Live normally cover the Melbourne Cup if you haven’t got ATR.
Jim (Croc) McGrath will be doing a final encore in the Commentary Box BTW.
October 17, 2013 at 21:23 #455229They only cover the race itself though. It’s the build up to it that’s fascinating. I tend to spend the whole of the next day going round saying ‘g’day’ to everybody. Think the solution is to save up and go to Melbourne next year!
October 17, 2013 at 23:10 #455241Tried the link to Melbourne Radio and it worked!! Brill. Can now listen to the whole build up. Thanks BigG. Have had small ew’s on Simenon [not sure if he’ll get in, though, although his price is plenty short so maybe he has qualified?] and Dandino
.

Glad it worked for you Moe. I think you are safe with both running, Dandino is 16th and Simenon is 25th in the line up. Not sure what the maximum field is, but 24 ran last year so even if it is 24, I would expect there would be at least one withdrawl before 6th November.
Best of luck with them

Well done Moe, I don’t know what price you took on Dandino, but it would be a lot better than the best price 7/1 (only bet 365) that is on offer now. I’m sure he would have won the Caulfield Cup if he didn’t have to come from a terrible draw. As far as you are concerned, that’s a bonus as he escapes the penalty he would have got if he had won.
You’re in with a cracking chance my friend

G’day cobber
October 19, 2013 at 11:40 #455438Will Dandino stay 2 miles in the hottest G1 of it’s type – I personally doubt it

Of course it’s all about opinions, I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t get the 2m, based on his very strong finish over 1m5 1/2f in the American St Ledger at Arlington Park in August. In the Caulfield cup he was finishing stronger than anything, suggesting to me anyway, that he would relish longer.
Keep the faith Moe, I think you have a cracking chance, and by the way his odds have shortened to be just about joint fav, the bookmakers would agree.
Do you have an opinion on the race jpaul, or were you just pointing out that Moe’s horse was unlikely to win.
October 19, 2013 at 16:29 #455496Moehat if you look for 3uz sport 927 you should find the link to Melbourne racing station 3UZ. They are an all racing radio station. The race caller should be Greg Miles the number 1 caller in Australia. I saw him in the furlong club at Royal Ascot at the bar he was leading a Black Caviar tour group. He was about to buy the pre packed salmon lunch, a couple of salmon strips 1 piece of bread a piece of cheese and a quarter of a lemon until he was told they were 25 pound each! I know because i didn’t ask and bought 3 and was told $75 pound!!!
October 19, 2013 at 19:19 #455513Hi jollyp; I think that’s the station I always listen to but I seem to be having problems with it at the moment. I’m well chuffed with Dandino, although he still has the barrier draw to contend with for the Cup if he gets a bad one. I got 20/1 but my bets are so miniscule I don’t make much! I can’t get ATR replays today either! Luck’s out with watching racing. And I’ve followed Royal Diamond for ages now only to miss him winning at 20/1 at Ascot. Bet they wish they’d sent him to Australia! PS Just tried it and it worked; think I missed out the 927 bit the other day.
October 23, 2013 at 12:09 #455902Forgotten Voice didn’t do very well this morning, however conditions were pretty bad over there and horses were being scratched for other races left right and centre.
October 24, 2013 at 09:35 #455987Glad you found the link ok Moehat, yes Dandino was a very big run! I never go for one in the cup too early but have been with Fiorente since his first up run after the last cup. Though it will be one of the best cups ever I think Fiorente will be too good for them, I think only bad luck will beat him.
