Read something last night that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. After Medermits facile victory at Aintree the trainers assistant comments that "There is no harm in having a school round first time".

Very few trainers will admit to this publicly. With the nature of todays race it appears that another "schooling" session is the order of the day.

Is this acceptable? I would be interested in opinions.

I must be missing the point … it’s ok schooling in public when you’re going to win surely.

Hello Jumps fan, Of course it is. Its just that you see so much shite written on here about schooling, gentle introductions and non tryers, I just thought it would be interesting that when someone actually admitted it, where the holier than though would sit? As the response to the question has proved, most of the whining we get to read is pocket talk of the highest order.

Perhaps the comments were based more on the fact that Medermit raced in relative isolation following the fall of his main rival and were not, therefore, meant to be interpreted literally.

In any case, sending a horse out with no intention of making it competitive is very different to allowing a high-class hurdler to get round in his own time when a distance clear of a solitary sub-standard opponent.

I was at Aintree that day and a few of us were of the same opinion in that it was a glorified school round because their was no real opposition in the race for Medermit so it was a case of jump and get round.

Huntingdon was just a case of bad luck and no doubt those who layed him will be very happy tonight.

End of the day the horse can only beat what is in the race to begin with.

Medermits chances of winning the Arkle are about the same as a drink driver applying for a School bus drivers job after severely tarnishing his reputation today by refusing at the sixth fence at Huntingdon! He jumped the 1st but nodded quite heavily on landing, the 2nd saw him go through the top of it,at the 3rd he splayed his legs and again looked very novicey, the 4th was better but a slight right handed head carriage looked a bit fraught, the 5th was perfect though, then as they came back round the Sun was defineately in their faces and something caused him to jink before he refused!Unfortunately its still an "F" in the form book and that is the worst mark you can get! Concerning!

Saw the replay on oddschecker; commentator was saying how well he was jumping, but I didn’t think he jumped the first few very well. He went past the stables, so he wasn’t napping. They thought something or someone might have spooked him near the fence. All very odd. Someone was only saying last night what a seriously fast horse he is.
