What are we all fancying in this tomorrow? I’m really keen on the Nicholls horse Braqueur D’Or at 10-1. Nicholls seems to have woken right up to wind operations this year. I’ve made a nice little profit recently from that angle, backing his horses which have had one. They all seem to be winning pretty much, the ones that I’ve seen and backed anyways.

I’m also quite sweet on Braqueur D’Or, however I could say that about a lot of them! It’s a hell of a race. Dell Arca shaped well last time, however i wouldn’t want him exposing himself too much to the handicapper ahead of a potential tilt at the Hennessy.

Good luck us then! I done a little dance today Peter… CHELTENHAMS BACK :yahoo:

I had a really great day, but it could have been so much better! I backed First Assignment at 8’s, and
Thomas Darby at 4’s (BOG 11-2). The third horse I backed was Dear Sire at 10-1. I had lumpy singles on all three, and a nice win double on Thomas Darby & First Assignment. But unfortunately, I had a £10 win treble the three. Dear Sire’s fall at the second last, when clearly he was going to win, it looked like to me anyway, cost me a bit.

I have found Cheltenham very hard tomorrow and bets are difficult to come-by.

This race i had it narrowed down to:

Dell’ Arca- i rate his last run in Ire pretty highly. He can throw a bad jump or two in and that’s the worry. He finished slightly ahead of Shantou Village and whilst SV wouldn’t have loved the ground a lot of Dell Arca’s wins have come on better ground too. So at the prices i thought he was value.

West Approach- Highly tried last year as a novice he hasn’t taken to fences quite so well, but that leaves him well handicapped on his hurdle form. His last 2 runs fresh have been a good 2nd and a 1st so he appealed to an extent at the price if returning to some form (might never do that over fences lol)

Above Board- Fragile horse, who hasn’t run a lot he ran Shantou Village close, and i think coming off a 59 day break, he could improve again. He seems to run best off a break and clearly has plenty of ability.

I might do 1/2 pt e/w bets on these but i wouldn’t be overly confident on them…but at least they are fair prices.

He may have lost his way a bit over the past year, but if the wind operation he had back in
February has brought about any improvement then Minella Rocco would be well in here
running off a mark of 157. Remember that he ran a good 2nd to Sizing John in the Gold Cup just
over 18 months ago, and he won and the National Hunt Chase at the festival the year before. Having
risen to a mark of 166, he has slid down to 157, just 2lbs higher than his Gold Cup run. This
is a very decent animal, and I’m not sure that O’Neil has given up hope of him rising to the top.
I took him at 16s (mentioned in the ante post thread), he’s best priced 12s now, and has to carry
top weight, but as I’ve already said, there could be improvement brought about from his wind operation.
He might not be fully wound up at this time, quite a lot in this would fit that bill, but even so I
think he’s the class animal in the field and loves it round here. He could just lead them a merry
dance if anything like back to his best :good:

I had a few quid during the week on What A Moment, but he hasn’t trapped.

I also put smaller bets on Rightdownthemiddle at 25’s and 33’s ew, but that was more in case the race cut up. It really hasn’t cut up though, and it’s some race.

I was going to sit it out, but in the end, I had to chance Perfect Candidate at 25’s ew, with six places up for grabs. He might need this, and he may be one for the meetings here in November or December, but with those terms, I had to risk another go.

    Rightdownthemiddle 33’s EW
Perfect Candidate 25’s EW 6 Places

I went for Shantou Village each way here at 14-1 during the week.

I would like to add one more, but these early races are tricky.

Minello Rocco is out, so I’ve switched to Calett Mad at 9s
    with Paddy Power.

Well done Green, a very nice start to the jumps with a 16/1 screamer :yahoo:
Bad luck with Cogry Raymo, I’ve followed him over that past 2 years or so,
I had that sinking feeling when I’d left him alone and he looked like the
winner at one point. Just done by a better horse on the day Raymo, hope
you have better luck with the rest of the day :good:

You were slightly unlucky Raymo, I thought Cogry would win coming to the last. If Cogry had not lost a bit of momentum, by slightly jumping into the other horse over the last, I think he might have got past. He ran a great race.

Thanks folks. I was hopping at the end…it’s a long run in. RD and Cogry two good honest horses. Am pleased for Rebecca Curtis as she had such a crap year last year and some owners moved their horses. If you are Gordon Elliot or Phillip Hobbs you can have a bug in the yard and a bad patch, or even most of a season like Hobbs did, and most owners will stay put. If you are Aidan O’Brien you can run a smaller number of your massed ranks for a spell and probably keep horses, tack and even staff from affected and unaffected barns separate. If you are a smaller trainer who isn’t in the top echelon it’s harder. So fair dues to her for pushing on through.

West Approach is a funny one. I thought he might jump better ridden in positive Richard Johnston style and so it proved. He did well to lead for as long as it did though, given his jumping. It’s straighter, less sticky and bolder than it was, and the horse looks much happier. But it is far too big and wasteful- he gets his body up needlessly high and dangles his legs. He has the scope to jump big, like his half brother Thistlecrack, but it’s too slow over shorter distances and too wasteful of energy over 3m especially when there’s a hill to be climbed. He needs to learn to tuck his front legs up like a showjumper so he can jump lower and more efficently but I don’t know if you can get a horse to go lower and faster over a fence if it is not naturally inclined to do so. Big leaps hard on their pelvis etc too probably. Also you get the impression that if he got wrong and clobbered a fence, instead of bashing merrily on he’d cack himself and start those horrible awkward jumps again.
    Has an engine though….
    A training conundrum.
