If you look at the Tingle Creek, the early pace was much slower than it was in the Novice Chase ran before it. A race like that suits Master Minded IMO in that he can go at his own pace and dominate his opposition and over two miles stamina s his forte which is why Cheltenham will always suit him.
I think on good / quick ground it only needs one or two to go off at a blistering pace and not only will Master Minded not be able to go at his own pace and dominate it will also put pressure on his jumping.
Ian, you are watching a different horse to me. When they went as quick as they could everything else either fell or was smashing through the fences. MM meanwhile breezed everything.
I saw him on Tolworth hurdle day at Sandown last year and since that day he has made one serious error at the end of a 2m4f race. The only day, as Francome pointed out, that Ruby tried to make his mind up for him. MM is an easy ride because he is so quick and such a natural athlete. Point and steer. Everything else will be under pressure trying to keep up with him.
December 8, 2008 at 00:32 #195265Free World’s race yesterday was ran only 1 sec slower than the Tingle – despite taking in more fences. Just because they are novices doesn;t mean they can’t be as good. Free World is already a top class 2m chaser, and he well improve a good deal more.
Would he beat Master Minded? No chance…but i’ve no reason to believe he couldn’t have made the frame in that race yesterday, along with the King horse (who will move on to 2m4 + in due course)December 8, 2008 at 00:42 #195270AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
Underscore, please tell me you’re on the wind up.
So Gauvain is only eight lengths worse than being in the frame of a Tingle Creek, using your oh-so-literal interpretation of form?
You sound like a bookmaker’s dream.

December 8, 2008 at 06:16 #195346On another note, when was Ruby earmarked for his return?
December 8, 2008 at 13:21 #195358Sooooo, according to Johncoffee….

December 8, 2008 at 14:58 #195368Superb level of debate and reasoning from Johncoffee, it’s what makes this forum head and shoulders above the rest…
Seriously, John, if you haven’t got anything intelligent to contribute to the forum, say nothing.
Or join the like-minded people on the Betfair forum…..

He hopes to be back for Cheltenham this week.
December 8, 2008 at 16:21 #195389Summed up my day – in the three close finishing races I came off second best in each one – and to rub salt in the wounds it was your nag who beat me in two of them – you git!!!
As we agreed when we saw him in the parade ring he looked magnificent – by far the best horse on display yesterday. Although I must admit that loose horse was worrying me – I had visions of another Clan Royal moment for McCoy.
Yes. Was a good day for me. I have hesitated to throw garlands at Mccoy in the past but days like this make that seem stupid. He was awesome. Master Minded is a magnificent beautiful animal isnt he?
December 8, 2008 at 16:27 #195394Come on Clive if you threw a garland at a jockey there would be a brick in it…..can’t see you paying for one otherwise
