Prize money at Wednesday’s meeting would put many Saturday meetings to shame. Two 20 grand handicap chases and a good supporting card. Well done to Bob Davies and his team. Loads of entries and there will be a good crowd.
Ludlow shows how a small course can be run when its soul isn’t sold to ARC or aimed purely at the Saturday binge drinking crowd. Once you start going you never stop, and that’s why annual membership is thriving too.
Along with Perth this is the best small course in Britain at the moment.
December 15, 2014 at 20:55 #498601Just a bit difficult to get to We’re planning to stay over next time we go so we can check out Ludlow itself. And we get a free cup of tea and a cake at the caf when we’re there.
December 15, 2014 at 21:43 #498603Ludlow is a nice track. Pretty much one of my local since hereford stopped racing
December 15, 2014 at 23:59 #498617Agree totally.
Holidayed twice in the area.
Both visits first class.December 16, 2014 at 10:03 #498636If the Ludlow area was in the Cotswolds it would be packed out with tourists; from what we’ve seen of it, it’s quite lovely round there, even if we do have terrible arguements with the satnav lady whilst trying to find the place

If you like your food, it’s manna from heaven. The Ludlow Food Centre, barely half a mile from the racetrack, will sort you out with artisan loveliness if you’re in a hurry (I tore round there before taking in the Ludlow Point-to-Point at neighbouring Bitterley last year), but there are dozens, possibly hundreds, of smaller but similarly minded emporia in town if you’re planning to take your time.
The Ludlow food Festival, replete with its famed and slightly naughty-sounding Sausage Trail, is a must for me and Life Partner Column every September these days. Book now!

Adoptive father of two. The patron saint of lower-grade fare. A gently critical friend of point-to-pointing. Kindness is a political act.

Glad the prize money put up by the course has been rewarded by highly competitive fare….
Just going to be a nightmare finding the winners now..
Shropshire in general is an unspoilt gem,… Ludlow Brewery tap also worth a visit if you’re passing by….
December 16, 2014 at 20:23 #498697Super racecourse, many a winning day in the past. Fantastic view all the way round.
December 17, 2014 at 14:17 #498765If you’ll forgive the shameless plug, my book about moving from London to Shropshire has a piece on Ludlow racecourse, as well as much else Salopian!

December 17, 2014 at 20:42 #498785The fences look very soft.
The water jump is really a damp polythene jump.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
