Good grieft, this horse does get the emotions going here.
I opposed him at the price over the weekend for many reasons but to be fair, I dont think anyone could suggest he ran his race and thats as good as he is.

October 18, 2006 at 00:10 #79910I would add to this thread. Except I spent ages in 2005 trying to argue North Light was actually a really good horse and Derby winner.
The time (and money) I spent doing this might have been better spent elsewhere in retrospect…
June 20, 2007 at 14:52 #2091Could someone add to this thread when he finishes please.
Thankyou.
June 20, 2007 at 14:55 #65556I think it might be worth retiring this horse. It’s sad to see him running like that. He had problem after problem last season and he clearly hasn’t recovered from that.
June 20, 2007 at 14:55 #65557really being shown up for the lucky horse he was at this stage, do the decent thing and retire for god sake
June 20, 2007 at 14:58 #65558It was a poor Derby last year and to keep him on after FOUR awful runs is criminal. The owners know they made a mistake not selling him so they just continue in the hope of picking a Group 1 by chance.

It’s good that they’ve kept running him.
It’s shown that he’s not really a G1 horse and, hopefully, will mean that top quality mares aren’t sent his way.

June 20, 2007 at 15:07 #65562Interesting information Aidan….I wasn’t aware the owners turned down any offers for Sir Percy and are now in a state of regret. Who wanted to buy him or was your statement merely a fabricated comment?
June 20, 2007 at 15:12 #65564On the balance of sir percys guineas and derby runs I always thought he could do an "oratorio" and be a specialist at 1m2f.
I think the theory is only flawed by the fact that the horse has turned into a complete tube, and his trainer (the reputedly honest tregoning) always reports him to be in top form when hes not. I was never a fan of Sir Percys derby but thought he does have some ability, perhaps though, he was just in the form of his life early last season and he will never get back to that.
June 20, 2007 at 15:14 #65565No. I perhaps didn’t make myself clear. They may have wished to retire him when he had his problem and if he had been retired you can guarentee the offers would have come in. Instead they ran him in the Champion Stakes and so on. Now they now his value has diminshed to a fraction of what he was worth after the Derby. Perhaps they are running him in the hope of picking up a G1 as they should do now.
June 20, 2007 at 15:17 #65566Thanks for clearing that up Aidan….the word "perhaps" makes a huge difference…ie you are merely guessing this could be the case. Thought I was in the Betfair forum for a second ;)
June 20, 2007 at 15:21 #65567Yep. Apologies naps.
June 20, 2007 at 15:22 #65568PERHAPS..(lol) he is just an early type which The Derby and Guineas would suit and was peaking about that time. The injury speeding up his decline.
June 20, 2007 at 15:26 #65569I think Bulwark sums it up about right
June 20, 2007 at 15:33 #65570in actual fact there was a couple of massive offers before the Derby last year but they were turned down. whether or not they regret it is open to speculation, the owners are a married couple who race horses for the fun of it and they only payed £16,000 for him so I dare say they’re fairly happy.

Not for the first time, Bulwark talks out of his butt!
The horse needs a strongly run 12f to be at his best, both of his best performances having come at this distance. He’s already won the Derby and would have been a lot closer in Dubai off a better pace, which is no doubt why Martin Dwyer decided he had to force the pace today.
Maybe now MT will run him in the King George where, given good ground and a decent pace, we may again see the proper horse.
June 20, 2007 at 16:12 #65572All you knockers are talking crap. The horse is an absolute machine who needs a fast run 2 miles.
Anyone who saw the Derby could see how fast he was going at the end.
All his races since Epsom have been over an insufficient trip and that’s why he’s always well beaten.
Once the trainer wakes up and realises his mistakes, SP will dominate the cup races.
Then you’ll all be eating your words and the horse will have the last laugh.
(assuming horses can laugh … and read internet forums)
